Is it too fast without towing one? "got other project on the go" The mind boggles. I can visualise a 1988 Astra with a rear mounted Rover 2300 engine running three Ford VV carbs on a home made manifold made from angle iron and wood screws. What a hopeless wanker. lesapandre
I'm sure a diesel one is fine, but the petrol CT is abysmal. Very narrow turbo delivery, which confused the auto box a fair bit. And then if it decides to grenade (which mine did) it can't be rebuilt. Brilliant. Only I would sell a nice PH1 XM for a lemon of a later one. The later dashboard is woefully made, and dull as heck. The whole point of a whacky Citroen is so you feel it inside too,it's no good driving an XM surrounded by a Xantia dashboard on steroids. And breathe. I just really hated the one I had.Yes mine is a manual 5-speed. 190,000 miles! But certainly well maintained - its a N. Ireland import funny plate and all, it even has French style yellow headlamps. I agree about the interior. Seats nice and hard wearing velour but the dash thought functional does feel bland. The web tells me later cars better screwed together than earlier ones and I did turn down a Mk1 auto that would have come in a job lot with this. Sorry to hear your bad experiences. The inside feels like they were losing money on them and decided to cut costs to boost profits.

Well go on then. It’s not far from you. Shame it’s got a mystery drain and limpy mode. I am almost, after 6years, cured of my nervous tick developed with six years of Citroen c5 ownership and limp home modes. Bargain if you’re made of stern nerves ( think Rourke’s drift nerves). First thing that would worry me is that the owner apparently doesn't know that this car doesn't have air suspension but Mercedes' ABC hydraulic system, massively more complex and expensive to repair (which will ultimately be happening considering 99% will be owned by clueless people not putting a single cent into maintenance).
