Shitely Request. Chester To West Midlands -UPDATE See Latest Post-

Recommended Posts

Bit of an SOS here. I've got a couple of item's I've won on eBay in far flung locations and my work shedule has conspired to make collection difficult. I'd hoped to collect them on some upcoming cross country trip but unfortunately my employer has other ideas....

They have the flexibility to stand up the workforce to work 6 day weeks and have also extended our weekday working hours. They are blaming Brexit and trying to push production volumes as high as they can before the leave date.

I've got two collections outstanding and was wondering if theres anyone local who could collect on my behalf and either post onwards, or sit on them until I'm able to collect. Happy to cover any expenses. Petrol / Post / Beer Money.

The Items are industrial lights,

The first Item is in Prestatyn - The Seller has said collection from Chester is also a possibility, they are 3 Fluorescent tube lights.

The second Items is in Lewisham, SE14 6QD, South london. And is a pair of explosion proof lights [ PLAN IN PLACE ]

If your able to help please pm me.

Cheers

Joe

I can get to Lewisham fairly easily and we've met so I guess it would make life easier for you if the item is in Lewes with no pressure?

I finish work at 4 so could nip up one evening if the seller is ok with that. Confirm with me before you make an arrangement with the seller because I do sometimes have evening commitments.

ooh nice :)

I wonder what tubes are in the fluorescent one, looks to be about 6ft long? id like to see more details pictures of that when you get it if thats possible :)

its worth keeping in mind, that a lot of these older explosion proof fluorescent lights used starterless control gear which ONLY work with T12 tubes, which can be a bit hard to source these days if your not someone like me

My assumption is that the flouroscent lights are probably using 5ft T12 tubes. I tend to buy lights on quirkiness / price and worry about bulbs / functionality later. So I 'won't know for sure until I actually get them.

My asumption is they Probably origonally intended for a paint shop or spray booth. I've got some similar which produce a very loud - distinctive hum!

Lights seem to have been a bit of a recent tangent, Dave has Recently bought a load of holophanes to do the pontoon lighting at his boatyard and I could do with a corner mount Coughtrie for the garage / corner of the house.

The lights in SE14 are like, literally, opposite where I work (it's New Cross not Lewisham). I can certainly collect them, it would have to be weekday lunch or early evening, and keep them at work for a bit, or could bring them home (assume they're not ridiculously heavy/large) close to M25 Junction 6 which might be easier for you to get to? Let me know, would save someone else making a trip into London.

I've arranged to pick up the New Cross ones, it's no hassle as I have family in the area so will drop in on someone for a catch up as I'm nearby. I'm likely to be passing near where Coal not Dole lives sometime soon as well, so should hopefully be able to deliver.

Thanks all, SierraMikeHotel's kindly offered to help out with the SE14 Pickup.

I'm still interested to hear from anyone in the North wales / Chester area who might be able to help with the flouroscent tubes,

Worst case scenario is I fail to collect them and you get some free lights!

Cheers

Joe

Could collect tomorrow evening but it would be a tight time frame as I'll be on the road. Is it Prestatyn or Chester? And will they fit inside a Morris MO Oxford?

Tomorrow might be a bit short notice for the seller,

Where in Chester are the tubes, chief? Can probs collect them without too much agro.

I work in Prestatyn so I go there every day! I’d be happy to store for a little bit too.

PM me if you want me to.

The seller has given a choice of pickup location. He's now saying its Hawarden rather than  Chester and that would be on a weekday. I Assume then they spend thier weekends in Prestatyn! Cheers for the offer(s) of help I will ty and talk to the seller again tomorrow and will send some PM's once I know a bit more.

Where are they going to? I can try and assist a relay if needed. I refuse to go to South London though!

End destination I guess is BN17, West Sussex but Once the GTE is on the road and my workload lessens I will make it a priority to collect them from wherever they end up.

Thanks All

Joe

Ok, Prestatyn and Hawarden are both about 20 minutes from me, can easily pop to Hawarden On a week night or to Prestatyn on the weekend either one is fine.

I need to go to Chester, weekend is easier though.

Poss I collect lights from Cavcraft's? Or maybe he would pass Hough green and could drop them there for me.

I also have something needs picking up from puddlethumper in Dudley. Maybe me or Junkman can take them there.

Will speak to junkman about this tonight if I remember.

Hi All, Bit of an update to this Shitely thread.

Thanks to the brilliant efforts of SierraMikeHotel the Lewisham lights are with me! Cheers again for your help.

Cavcraft has also been able to pickup the North Wales lights and they are currently with him in Chester. He's had them a few weeks now and I'm consious that I need to try and get a plan together to get them moved on a stage.

I was wondering if there was anyone in a position to help shift them onwards? It would be ideal if they could end up in the West Midlands area some time in the next two weeks. Anywhere in Birmingahm /  The black country would be Ideal but even getting them to somewhere like Stoke would be a bonus.

Hopefully if they can be bought a bit closer Theres a possibility CND Dave can collect them in the next few weeks.

Happy to chuck a little beer / petrol money in to cover any expenses.

Thanks again to anyone who has helped or offered to help so far!

Cheers

Joe

If any local shiter retrieves them, I could relay them to the Brum/West Midlands area if that's any help.

      Orignial post:

so how do I start this post off well...

to cut to the chase I know of a picture that was taken 9 years ago and its a picture of an abandoned invacar and I have been trying to find said invacar for reasons that are probably quite illogical    (also some slight sentimental ones)

      heres the picture in question

I have managed to stalk track down the person who took the photo, and he said that it was by an art studio on fish island bow (which is hipster-central FYI) (the photographer is currently on holiday apparently, but said that when he gets back he will go through his archives and see if he has a reg plate shot)

so the other day I went to fish island and had a good old fashion hunt  (and utterly did my back in) but sadly I was unable to find it despite finding plenty of other chod.

so Im wondering if any of you guys might have any idea where this invacar is or what might of happened to it?

the sentimental reasons why I want to find and save this/get an invacar is because when I was about Age 3 I saw an invacar parked up by the side of the road and it was the the first car that ever stood out to me made me go "WTF is that?" (but in 3 year old words, I didn't learn the middle finger until i was 4 ) to which my mum said "its a car for disabled people" (which 3 year old me took as, "all cars with 3 wheels where built for disabled people" so I also thought for a long time that reliant robins where built for disabled people too...)

the "illogical" reasons are that well I have never owned a car before... and I think an invacar would be a good simple vehicle for me to cut my teeth on so to speak, and then once I got it going I could "daily it" as a small run about, since ironically enough I have a bad back which prevents me from doing much outside of the house otherwise... also owning a car in Central London is a horrible idea but if you must, best it be a small compact car right?   (and also hopefully its cheap to have/run as well...)

also finally its also a case of I Just want to do SOMETHING, my chronic back injury has meant that I have been housebound for the last 5 years or so and I just want to fucking do something... and what better to do then to try and find and save a historically important vehicle thats also proper autoshite  (this also leads to, even if I cant personally save it, I hope that its at least found and persevered by someone here but ideally id like to grab it )

PS while out and about looking for the invacar I came across this yard in fish island which seemed to have some traveller type people mulling around about in, I was hoping to ask one of them if they knew about the invacar since they seemed to of been the sort of person who might know about it sadly I could not find a way into the "compound",I also grabbed this shot since my inner bus person wonders what that coach is? sadly I could not grab a reg plate shot, for those wondering as well the thing with the blue tarp roof looked like a pretty old Lorry but I could not get a good view of it sadly, there where also some cars and broken transits sitting around.

so yeah I hope you all dont mind me making this post I know its a bit far fetched so to speak (the picture WAS taken almost 10 years ago and fish island has been quite heavily redeveloped since then I think)...

but I am stubborn bastard so I hope to find it still

First my brother in law had a problem with his Volvo:

      http://autoshite.com/topic/34710-2007-volvo-v70-d5-24-automatic-sold-new-owner-updates/?fromsearch=1

Then, earlier this week, someone broke into his house, found keys to his BMW and drove away in this:

There’s no way of knowing whether the BMW will ever be found.

BIL now urgently needs a reliable automatic estate car, MoTd and running, for up to £1k and located as close to High Wycombe as possible.

Does anyone know of a suitable steed?

I have been out of the buying loop for a while due to loss of storage causing a clear out and other parts of,life getting in the way. I have been in the position to get another car for a couple of months and looked at a couple but they just haven’t got the juices flowing. The Capri still needs to be a priority for funding so any purchase needs to be low cost. The problem is that I am not sure any car exists to fit what I want. It needs to be £500 or thereabouts, preferably MoTed but at worst MoTable with limited time and very low cost. Ideally four seater as whilst I love two seaters a lack of time means it will need to do family duties if it’s going to be used. Minimum of electronics. ‘Sporty’ or old (90s or earlier, earlier the better), able to go on classic insurance. Aesthetics are less important. Not a million miles from the midlands. I would love a Cortina or old French chod but can’t them being close to my budget.

Does such a car even exist? Or should I just really push to get the Capri sorted? (Difficult over winter as it’s all paint prep that needs doing).
