Home made pick ups.

Every so often something awful appears on the ebay tat or one shite picture thread where somebody has taken an angle grinder to some poor unsuspecting car and I just thought they deserve their own thread.

Some have been done really well but are still awful. Others are just laugh out loud bad. Here's a couple to kick things off.

A lot of work went into this but I still wouldn't want to be seen in it.

Most of the chrome trims have been replaced with wooden ones. Even the Rover lettering is wood.

This though is in a different league. I can hear the conversation that led to its creation:

"Hey Dave, I need a pick up"

"Ok Bob, I'll nip down the shop and have a look in the Friday Ads"

"No, I need one now"

"Err, can you wait an hour?"

"Ok, Dave, I'll see you about 3 o'clock then"

45 minutes later...

I mean, they actually made a proper pick up of this, how desperate do you have to be to do this.

Someone please find me a shittier conversion than this.

I wish I had got a shot of the Bond Equipe 2 Litre that used to knock about Six Dials with a Harvey Frost on the back of it!

At an old site i used to admin on, we briefly owned this shit tip.

FiaSco_2.jpg

Every bit as terrible as it looked (no, we didn't do that to it, it came like that!)

In fact, worse.... The intention was to do up, take to shows and basically be a rolling advert/community car

The reality was, it was a deathtrap well beyond rescue.

I know, i was stunned too....

Just had a quick flick through some old steam pics (sorry about the reflections - I have just had to rephotograph them in the conservatory) and found these two...

The 'Alf-an-etta was at a Spring A-R gathering at Beaulieu in the 1990s but I can't even remember taking the Zodiac photo let alone when or where it was....

That Rover at the top is actually beautifully executed. It was featured in PC mag recently. He has a penchant for Rover 75s and has also done a push-me-pull-you version (yes I know) and a very clever and rather lovely two door coupe. Trouble with the pick up though, like all the others above, is it still manages to look rubbish.

Yes it is. As I said, a lot of time and effort has gone in to it. I think it is supposed to look a bit boaty and it is certainly a good advert for his woodworking skills but I'd much rather have a good ZT-T.

I'm rather ashamed to admit, despite it looking tacky as hell, I rather like that Zodiac.

Our landlord left lots of sheet metal lying which he said he didn't need so I used a fair bit on making this monstrosity.

But I knew as soon as it went on that I wasn't a fan off it so tried to cover it up with black paint which reacted with it and made it look like this!

Opinions differed on 'T bone/rearender' survivability...

I have to say the shape of that lends itself remarkably well to conversion.
