To complete the comings and goings, yesterday this arrived.  Does seem genuinely solid, albeit a bit more battered than the photos made out.  Any solid ado16 with full MOT is worth what I paid though, so not complaining.

Swap your ADO16 for a black Landcrab! Oh wait... ?

  • 2 weeks later...

So the local garage re-opened last Tuesday.  The plan had been to get the black 1800 in for MOT straight away, but on hearing that its sale was no longer happening it threw its toys out of the pram in the biggest hissy fit imaginable.  The alternator failed (trivial), the exhaust sprouted a hole (also trivial), then it stepped things up a notch.  Or two.  Firstly the intermittent issue with the clutch release bearing (which I thought had gone away) returned with a vengeance.  It's now pretty much impossible to select gear when cold and stationary and not that much better when warm (it's ok on the move).  So that's an engine out job then; hurrah.  Then when I'd come to terms with that the hose on one of the rear displacers failed.  Currently awaiting re-hosed displacer, release bearing and engine mount to be sent by club spares chap. Grrrrrr.

So the Allegro went for MOT instead and passed after some carburettor tweakery.  I ventured into the centre of Wisbech this afternoon for the first time in 11 weeks to tax it at a post office capable of doing the change of tax class to historic.  I'll use it a bit until the V5 returns then it's going up for sale.

And I've been tasked with selling @Craig the Princess's Volvo 940.  Having given it a clean up it's now advertised here:

https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1231205

I'm not sure it's worth starting a new thread on here for it, but have a couple of photos anyway (the white marks on the bonnet are reflections of clouds):

So black Landcrab had the replacement displacer fitted and went straight through a MOT, even though the tester had to switch off every time he wanted to select a gear due to the clutch issue.  Luckily he knows me and humours me and my cars (although he certainly won't pass anything that shouldn't).

So earlier in the week this happened...

All to replace this...

1236398659_WWU146Jclutchreleasebearing.thumb.JPG.7a3c62f8094f35682ef2564697b61b66.JPG

and yesterday and this morning has it looking like this...

All seems ok so the bonnet has gone back on and I'll take it for a proper drive after lunch.

In other news the V5 for the Allegro (showing Historic tax class) came back in less than three weeks, so expect two for sale adverts soon (although maybe not on here!).

Landcrab now advertised here:

https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1237627

and Allegro here:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293622075268

I don't expect anyone on here to be interested, but feel free to prove me wrong!  Shiter's discount will apply in both cases.  The Allegro hasn't had much exposure recently so have a couple of photos in case you haven't clicked on the ebay ad.

Two out, two in within the last couple of weeks.  The landcrab went to a youngster in Lancashire as their first car, followed this Monday by the Allegro selling to a nice chap who came up from Aylesbury and drove it home.  The longest journey it had done for ten years but I got a message the next morning to say it made it with no problems; always nice when someone takes the trouble to do that,

So obviously some buying needed to be done to compensate.  First was this, bought mainly to provide @Craig the Princess with a much better hood and a set of almost new tyres for his (seen here with his as we swapped hoods)

1918369771_MGFx2.thumb.jpg.91cf71c99c77eb5e3277648d392b1d3d.jpg

However, a bit of tinkering has fixed the water leak from one of the front to rear pipes, got the clutch working by bleeding it and the alternator working by removing and unseizing (it had destroyed the belt in its seized state).  With nothing to lose, as this was bought as a spares car so anything else is a bonus, I borrowed and dusted off Craig's welder and surprised myself by making a seemingly adequate repair to the rear of the offside sill (inner and outer).  Oporto red isn't that bad a match to Nightfire!

There's a smaller bit to do on the nearside sill, then we'll see what the MOT tester thinks on Thursday.  It's quite barnacled around the suspension/subframes, but I can't see any obvious failures.  It also came with a hard-top, receipts for all work since new and has quite a nice leather interior...

Second to arrive, early this morning courtesy of the thoroughly recommended @worldofceri  was this:

Off road since 1996, what grabbed my attention was this…

113406295_CHT641Jengineasdelivered.thumb.JPG.3e9c440834a3f5f8985ce6423ff24bcd.JPG

…1300GT engine (11 stud head) complete with correct GT exhaust etc (although in this case presumably from a MG1300 mk2 judging by the rocker cover).  I gambled that if it was completely rotten I’d get my money back by breaking it.  As it happens, a quick once-over suggests it’s remarkably solid despite appearances, although it definitely needs a bit of welding at the rear of the nearside sill & sill-to-floor closing panel.  Assuming I can get it roadworthy I will probably keep in place of the Morris 1100; I prefer the strip speedo and the fact the Austin has original pressed steel plates, original carpets etc.  Talking of the Morris, the sale of the landcrab & Allegro means it’s now been swapped onto my classic insurance policy and I’ve finally started using it.  I’ll finish with a photo of the two shabby 1100s together, the Austin looking happier for having the offside suspension pumped up.

That 1100 is the one from the eBay thread isn’t it? I hadn’t realised it had a 1300 engine in. It looks right at home next to your other one.

Whatever else you do, please keep them lovely reflective plates on

Yes, it's the one you provided the link to.  Thanks again!  Plates are absolutely staying.  Have a photo of the rear one as well...

Lovely car! Top purchase! Bristol plate, but I’m sure you know that already.

Yes, having been born in Bristol and then lived there again from 1996-2009 it's another thing I like about it.  It's been in Bristol all its life until the people I bought it from (part time traders) moved it to South Wales recently.  My green landcrab, which is almost ready for the road again after slumbering for 10 years, is also an HT plate (HHT183K) and again had lived in Bristol all its life when I bought it in 2006.

Some people on here just know too much about cars! (sorry @wuvvum)

Anyway, a recap, not necessarily in exact chronological order:

This came.....and went:

380694196_Y104PFMosf.thumb.JPG.3838fc424fb8cc6890fdbc39c3889f36.JPG

My 206's head gasket went.  Par for the course with petrol TU engines, yet somehow they escape the ridicule heaped on the K-series.  It will be fixed (actually tomorrow, when a friend is coming round to help).  Shortly afterwards the Allegro estate's fuel tank sprung a leak, so I have been relying on the Morris 1100 and Maestro van for the past few weeks,

At the same time @Craig the Princess's 206 died (it departed via CarTakeBack today) and his Multipla had a hissy fit.  So obviously something else needed to be bought, and this was it:

1103793927_BK05GUAosforig.thumb.jpg.69e863eedfcf1e7ca63eb06cce173903.jpg

1.2 Twinport (which somehow makes it sound more special than it actually is).  Does seem to be a good car though, and will act as a standby for both of us until the insurance policy it's on expires at the start of November.  Then up for sale.

And as alluded to above, yesterday we ventured into the wilds of Lincolnshire (middle of nowhere between Grantham, Stamford & Bourne) and returned with this:

2071264614_HY08TGOosfasbought.thumb.JPG.dd1ee3cc4dc29d22c886d8df96cdee43.JPG

1832444896_HY08TGOfrontseatsasbought.thumb.JPG.7ff756f1cbf40a0ac5d5ea4e2bf9f87f.JPG

As correctly guessed, a C2 Code (basically a 1.6 VTS with caramel leather and a couple of badges).  A bit battered and bruised, but seems fine mechanically (other than the bodge to the rear silencer support which will have to be sorted).  Will look respectable when cleaned up, and may risk re-MOTing before selling (current one expires 1st Jan) as it looks like seller has done the change of keeper by post (despite my best efforts to persuade them to do it online) so it's in limbo for a few weeks,

Not much to report on the BMC/BL stuff, as all I've done is start removing the paintwork splodges panel by panel on the Morris 1100.  It's already looking better (will try to remember take a couple of photos tomorrow) as I'd rather have a few honest dings and marks exposed than mismatched paint patches everywhere.  The front wings will need a bit more than this though.

Now if anyone can get the 1980s album reference in the current thread title without google I'll be even more impressed!

Already on the car take back lorry was a Y reg Saab 9-3 convertible (which had fallen off once delaying the driver) and a W reg Golf GTI.

Not really sure the photos make it look like much has been achieved, but show offside from a-post back having had paint splodges removed (the marks you can see are what the paint was hiding) and nearside awaiting the same treatment.

In modern news the 206 head was removed today, but hopes of it being re-assembled tomorrow were dashed when the cambelt kit turned out to be wrong (despite clearly listing for 206 1.1 on the box, so I don't blame the seller too much).  New one ordered, hopefully back together next Friday.

  • BeEP changed the title to BeEP's motors - Another Multipla arrives & C2 for sale. 30/9/20.

Various stuff has been happening.  The 206 head gasket job is complete and seems to be a success.  MOT in a couple of weeks then back on the road from 1st Nov, when the Corsa runs out of insurance and will be up for sale.  Needs a wash, but just to prove it still exists...

DSCN1892.thumb.JPG.4e033dfbab5758c9a285fdeb38b03db4.JPG

I finished getting the splodgy paint off the Morris 1100 and took it to the BL event at Milton Keynes on Sunday, where it was nice to see @Six-cylinderand a few others.  First time I'd taken an ado16 on a proper journey for a few years and thoroughly enjoyable it was.

Citroen C2 of wonderful seats is now up for sale:

https://autoshite.com/topic/42497-2008-citroen-c2-code-16vts-mot-jan-drives-well-£600-west-norfolk/

And finally on Saturday this arrived.  Possibly the cleanest Multipla you'll find on top and inside.  Only let down by the cup which locates the top of one rear spring corroding to the extent that the bump stop has fallen out (the third Multipla I've seen this happen on).  Will be repaired (doesn't have to be pretty, just functional) then for sale with a new MOT (hopefully!)...
