Rover 216 Cabriolet Auto - Stupid Owner

Would anyone be interested in a Rover 216 Auto cabriolet, collection thread as below has a pic.

http://autoshite.com/topic/32887-today-i-will-be-mostly-collection-fred/

MOT till June.

Body work in really good nick, but not perfect mechanically. (That sounds bad, will explain tomorrow)

Had it on a classic policy which I then cancelled. It's been on my in-laws driveway for a couple of months and would prefer someone got some use out of it, rather than it just sitting there.

Will post a more detailed description up tomorrow, but pics might be an issue if it's covered in snow. :)

Any questions ask away.

Cheers

Dave

If I could drive I'd be on the train now.  I've had two proper convertibles and both were metallic burgundy.  One had even been through Mr Gricey's hands previously!  (The topless Saab that's now back with Mr Princess)  This Rover looks glorious.

That be Rovers finest Nightfire Red!

No pics yet, but hopefully this covers all the questions/pm's

Good Points:

Body work in very good nick

Leather Interior in good nick

Electric windows

Alloy wheels , good tyres

Two keys (Remote Central Locking(

Roof in good nick. (Rear window a bit misty, but they all are like that)

Bad points: (Going to try and cover everything, but gearbox is main one)

Auto gearbox is a bit clunky when engages drive (even though its a CVT), once in gear its fine.

Main issue with the gearbox is possibly engine revs related, and didn't even notice this at first.

Basically when coming to a stop, its almost the gearbox wants to keep driving. Car stops fine but you have to add a bit more braking. (Its not like emergency stop,to stop, but you do have to brake a little harder) now have found two ways to avoid this. Easiest one is to knock it into Neutral when coming to a stop and then engage drive when needed.

The other one takes a bit more finesse, but can be done with ease.

When coming to a stop, do all your braking a couple of metres before you need to. Then release the brake and brake again for the final 2m.

Don't know why but this sort of makes the engine/gearbox realise you are stopping, so on the second stop does stop without as much brake pedal.

This actually sounds much worse than it is, but wanted to try and explain what's happening and the way round it.

Drivers exterior door handle has failed. Interior one fine, so you have to access via passenger door and lean over to open drivers door. (Replacement handle included, but not yet fitted)

Drivers side door card is a bit loose. Possibly missing a couple of screws

Power roof works fine, but pump in boot has a slight leak. Pump can be disengaged and roof used manually if you choose, but I found it easier to just top the pump up with fluid when needed. (I even bought a massive syringe thing that you feed baby lambs with to top up)  Roof works totally fine (as long as you remember to put the hand brake on - see a previous thread)

Motor blower switch has done the normal rover thing and cracked. It still works, but you have to keep turning until it catches, rather than just having the defined 1,2 3, speeds.

Drivers backrest adjustment handle is missing. Backrest stays where it is, just needs adjusting with a spanner or something similar.

The display for the stereo on the dashboard does not work, so by default the Rover radio does not work as code cannot be input. Have fitted an Aldi Bluetooth thing that is quite good.

and works well with the automated aerial.

Fairly confident that is it, but will update later if I remember anything in addition.

Will try and get some pics tomorrow morning.

Cars located in Halesowen area of West Mids.

I had it with Peter S Taylor/Bishop Calway for about £145.

3000 miles and parked on the road. (not in a garage which was the main thing for me)

Just ensure its £1500 when you give price.

Best I can get at mo is £350 with it valued at £2k (yes I know) parked on drive but waiting on a couple of specialist brokers I have had success with in the past to get back to me.

If that was the case, everything prior to 1997 would cost 50 quid to insure irrespective of age, postcode and such shite. New Audi, Mercedes and other such stuff would cost a minimum of 500K TPFT and having no insurance for such cars would result in instant imprisonment.

All Rovers would be free to insure by the way.

We can dream lol

Try just kampers, they have been the cheapest for quotes for us recently

Sell it to the Mrs with the idea of how how much fun it will be cruising around with the roof down

We have been after a cheap convertible for a while, I think she is nervous of driving something where she doesn’t think she can stop it. And to be fair she loved her old 205 so I think she was hopeful when the CJ turned up on here. In reality I doubt the problem slowing down is anything close to an issue for her and will keep working on it. I need to call Adrian Flux back but can’t use the phone as waiting for results from docs about my chest infection and don’t want to miss them.

Waiting for a few insurance quotes to come back and trying to persuade the other half, she normally likes my ropey purchases but seems a little unconvinced on this one for some reason I genuinely can’t fathom.

Dead of winter, beast from the east Mk2...aging soft top...

Nope can’t figure out why there’d be objections either :)
