jonny69
Only came in to ask how it was going with the Insight! How terribly dull! Mine has been sat for nearly 4 months through extended lockdown at Shateau 69 due to shielding. I did a discharge cycle a couple of weeks ago and will probably wait until I need to use it again before I do anything else. Assuming I ever get to go back to an actual workplace, that is. Jim Bell
Progress is being made with the crew cab 205. Popped into excellent local garage for a barrage of fine fettling. Bag of fixes: Big long pipe/rocket launcher: From under the ramp the verdict was that it's absolutely solid and well worth a bit of love. I should hope so at just cresting 70k, it barely even broken in. Work completed over the last couple of days: Oil and filters service (oil, air, fuel). Cam belt kit. Water pump and fresh coolant. Alternator belt. Full exhaust system manifold back. Various fuel lines including big long one front to back. (One had been leaking in the bay) Rocker cover gasket as it was pissing oil. Now the oil stays in the engine. With all that accomplished, it's fair to say all of the potentially fatal failure components have now been renewed. It's not all good news though. The KNOB has finally succumbed to NORMAL USE and began reducing itself to its former component parts. Shame knob. Being a dedicated follower of high fashion, I have ordered a replacement from that France over the water. Now that the petrol stays in all the right places, I thought I would treat to to twenty quids worth. Now that I've lavished expenditure on it, it's probably time to sell it. Undecided for the moment but work is looking more uncertain by the week so may have to go in the end. We shall see. Jim Bell
And of course, as soon as you spend a load of money on a car, it sticks a cold and affectionless finger up your wrong end. Jim Bell
Me being a have a go hero and whatnot, I attempted to restore it using electric and burn. Jim Bell
The terrible running issues were investigated by poking things and wobbling things, hoping that something would be visibly and obviously wrong. This metal clip holding the carb air feed cap thing was undone (pretend I've circled it for clarity) This air filter housing connection was found to be loose. I tightened both. It made absolutely no difference at all.
Jim Bell
The poor running was deemed (by me and people that know me) to be beyond my ability to diagnose. Back to the garage it went. barefoot
Jim Bell
Heads were scratched. Everyone I'd spoken to, including the very helpful @320touring, @davehedgehog31, @Lacquer Peel, @Jimbob McGregor@loserone and @Tickman all agreed it was probably the coil breaking down. So the garage changed the plugs and leads. A short test drive gave tentatively positive results.
Jim Bell
I picked it up with little confidence that issues would be fully resolved but took it out for a decent punt. Sound ON to hear the TU ROAR!!!! After driving round for about an hour, everything seems well bar a couple of small splutters. It pulls like an absolute fish and trains like a Swiss great. Shirley Knott
Good craic re resolving the misfire , nice when things are simple/quick to sort. This doesn't seem to have caused too much trouble for a vehicle of that age so far... Just about every car I've ever bought has spent the first few months metaphorically shooting me with shit- I see it like taking on a rescue dog, they may have had troubled lives and suffered unknown abuse in previous homes, with love and care they come right in the end. That's a nice perspective to have man. Great way of looking at it. Think I've been somewhat spoiled with good fortune. Ive gotten used to £400 cars that just work fine. It's a fantastic old car that's barely run in really and hopefully now it's had most of the major service bits attended to, it'll be a happy puppy. paulplom, Saabnut, Shirley Knott and 2 others

If you're seriously interested @hairnet, I can shoot you my phone number over for a chat. Slight use hasn't bothered this one, but leaving it sat still for 6 months might put one in a mood. Nothing that a charge and resumption of use wouldn't solve though. @Asimo and @jonny69 can probs advise you better than me mind.

The batteries in these are all old gits now. A grid charger is just a mains charger for the hybrid battery, for use when the battery gets out of balance and starts to throw errors. You can cycle the battery by charging, discharging and recharging a couple of times. This re-balances the battery and you'll get most of the original capacity and performance back. Honda never made chargers or specified charge/discharge routines, so all grid chargers are either aftermarket or home made. They prefer to be used but it doesn't do it a lot of harm sitting. Mine has sat for over a year when I couldn't be bothered to sell it and then 5 months over lockdown. I'd say using it every day is fine, once a week is fine, once every two weeks is pushing it a bit if the battery is a bit tired but will probably be fine, once every 3 weeks is probably not enough, once a month will probably make it force charge itself quite a lot and might hit fuel economy. You can just start them up after they've been standing. I put a new 12V battery on mine after it had sat for 14-16 months and it just started on the hybrid battery and ran like I'd last used it the day before. Probably because Honda. Self-charged itself for a bit to see where the battery was and then ran as normal like nothing had happened. But it's kinder on the hybrid battery if you can trickle charge it first if it has been standing for months. Buy the bastard. hairnet, BorniteIdentity, Jim Bell and 2 others
Jim Bell
Sometimes the first time you see a car you just want to buy it. You just want to sit in it and beep the horn. Sometimes you see a car and it just seems right and good. And if you're lucky, and good people are nice to you, you might end up owning it. Here is the tale of one such car.
