What you have there Jim is the Fabia with the optional factory "Plus Pack". This gave you electric front windows and remote locking (with a two button key none the less!). The electric window issues you have suffered will more than likely be caused by the drivers electric window motor. The circuit board on them suffer intermittent faults which affects both windows, it wont be the switches or the wiring, but will be the motor. Be careful buying used motors off eBay as there are about 6 different types, and the one you need will have a particular suffix on the part number.

When these were launched to the dealer network I joked to the bloke who was teaching us dealer chumps that HTP stood for "has three pistons" and got told to hold the wise cracks, typical motor trade faceless trainer bell end!

Well that's interesting news. Glad I haven't purchased switches then.

Do the motors and regulators come on a big metal panel affair on these? They seem cheap enough on eBay, but if there's loads of types, I'll have to have a look before purchasing.

The regulators are indeed the entire size of the door panel, and are classed pretty much as consumable items like most VAG stuff. The regulators can be had for circa £30 new.

The motors affix to the regulator by way of a geared spline type affair and the motors are bolted to the outer part of the carrier/regulator and can be changed easy enough without disturbing the carrier/regulator.

The other most common Fabia fault is, leaky rear doors, this can be rectified by self tapping the carrier/regulator to the door across the lower edge then sealing the joint with plumbers gold mastic. Leaky rear doors will make the rear footwells wet, causing steaming up issues etc.

Other than that they're pretty robust in a non exciting kinda way. The austere interior was typical of the Czech approach back in the day, but they are well built and strong.

Czech out the Fabia Junior. Austere. It doesn't even have a glovebox lid.

I had a Fabia SDI a while ago, it was a bit dour to drive but reasonably comfy and good for long distances.

That looks mega. If this one had manual front windows it would be ideal. Wonder how difficult converting it would be.

1. Get hold of a set of regulators, handles, and door cards (or make holes in the existing ones)

2. ????

3. Profit

A while ago I did think about the 1.9TDi ones of these, as they can apparently be mapped to 130hp, the same as the VRS, but in a boring body style. A beige estate with that engine (and remap) would be especially appealing / appalling.

Would probably be fun with an AUQ in too, but then you'd want it to go around corners too, no?

It's alright the way it is. It's not a performance car, which is alright by me. I'd have a VRS like, but there's no point trying to make this into anything more than a pootler.

I had a 2008 1.9tdi new. I had that remapped to 140. It went like shit off a shovel and gave 60mpg.

For those who would like a new* (2010) car with sufficient power (95hp) yet steel wheels, manual windows all round and no central locking I have just the thing incoming on Friday.  For sale soon after unless the 206 fails its MOT dismally next week,  I think JBWWBS already knows what it is.

Don't be a tease.

Just take your trousers off, sit on the stool and show us what you have to offer the group.

I will, on Friday, when it's collected and I can take some photos.  No smartphone and didn't think to take a camera when I viewed it. The photos on the advert were pretty rubbish, but have this one as a clue...

I'll certainly try a FS/Roffle thread but I'm not sure it's as well suited to the AS demographic as the scruffy Picanto that went last week! There's also the Savvy to get rid of once the exhaust has been sorted and a new MOT obtained ?

I'm sure there'd be a queue for the Proton. They are bonny looking futuristic things while also being obsolete and out of date.

They've literally got it coming out of BOTH ENDS.

Get them up on the for sale page we will always lust after any cheap-ish olds shite

  • 3 weeks later...

Has it been nearly three weeks already?

So what's been going on with the £17.98 Fabia? (I hear absolutely nobody asking).

Well, first up was binning the dogshit trims.

IMG_20191102_105631.thumb.jpg.2a763c4ece1665978e89a13bf03cc35d.jpg

GET RECYCLED YOU SHIT BASTARD.

It didn't look to bad on plain patina steels.

IMG_20191020_141056.thumb.jpg.6fca74e481e57a4338c7da18ba1a44cc.jpg

Think it looks better on proper wheel trims though.

Happy enough with that.

Then of course I bought some mats.

One for the boot.

Nice!

Then I bought some Octavia floor mats.

IMG_20191102_105316.thumb.jpg.4e541b99a5f5708ec351dbe2dd19e200.jpg

Which of course, don't fucking fit. Shitbasterd.

Here they are doubled up with some previous mats, which is stupid.

IMG_20191102_110134.thumb.jpg.d8bc94cd4d4787f6bcdf6e31083a9437.jpg

Nice pattern on the seats though, dancing cone head lads.

It's done two tanks and it's averaging about 40mpg on mixed driving. More like 35 local.

Not too bad I guess.

What's it like to drive then?

As commented by Bucketeer "it just drives like a brand new car".

Having never driven anything anywhere near a brand new car, if have to agree.

The steering is very light and over assisted if you ask me, but it's an effortless steer.

Ride is great. It's on 70 sizes sidewalls and it just eats potholes, sperdbumps and lumps up and shits them out.

IMG_20191019_074643.thumb.jpg.89def843a1b527c23aacec790ac287fb.jpg

Sooo much siiiidewall.

The brakes are pin sharp and probably the keenest I've been in command of.

Headlights are deathwank and need new bulbs and a pollish.

The bonnet has been made worse/better with a few efforts from me using experimental means of cutting and pollishing. It's still absolutely rubbish but maybe slightly better than when I started (in parts).

Before:

IMG_20191019_074610.thumb.jpg.5e0d3dc504424f3e38ccb226e0c21f4a.jpg

During; I started with black Tcut which has now coloured some of the fucked laquer.

IMG_20191023_142521.thumb.jpg.a27f637189f7146ed749d93e2b69c73c.jpg

Then I had a go with some sandpaper. I know.

Then some non coloured Tcut.

IMG_20191102_131030.thumb.jpg.0aca4265adf5c6e607ccb5538daa7804.jpg

That definitely made it worse.

Try Tcut again.

IMG_20191103_153706.thumb.jpg.6c648dfbe2f73706a554d1b3e087bc06.jpg

Verdict?

Total waste of time. I've made half the bonnet to A BIT better.

Still, I got some exercise.

thats got to be good for you.
