These are good mate. Makes the key the same as the one on my 2006 v70. You have to cut the transpoder out of your old key and glue it inside. 2ef9fa1668afa7fea2189b12f185e2fb.jpg

Cheers man, but my aim is to increase the number of transponder keys I have, rather than just have one new one.

Top bombing.

Listen out for a 'tick' when idling, if you pump (then hold) the brake pedal and the ticking sound goes - Change the Vacuum pump ASAP, as it can snap the camshaft.

I'd also look at when the belts were last changed (fuel pump and cambelt)

As for water pump, if it's not goosed then I wouldn't change it, as sadly aftermarket ones seem to be a tad poor, unless you wish to buy OEM (Direct from Volvo the belt kit isn't cheap, and funny enough the tensioners have VW stamped on them)

Alternators fail and it's a bit of a pain in the ass to do.

But other than that I 100% agree with you.

The 5 pot noise & surprisingly brisk pace, is a joy.

I'm after a set of mats & inlet manifold boost hose... IF you happen to see any for sale.

Nice motor

It's had the belts and water pump done at 105k and 152k.

It's got a pretty comprehensive service history (one garage from 2007 to 2018). The owner spent over five thousand and five hundred pounds keeping up to muster between 07 and 18, god bless them.

No ticking that I've noticed as yet. But I'll keep a watch out for it. Engine does seem to go a bit shuddery under braking some times. Not sure if that's normal or not.

The power steering on my V70 is a little odd, I find it seems to feel lighter the more you turn in, this gives a feel of it being about to wash out on you. I have tried on a big carpark near me and it is just the feel of it but it’s a big disconcerting at first. Having read up on it they aren’t famed for their power steering being the most responsive ever.

Thats a good way to describe it man.  Ive had it up and down multi-storeys dailly.  Its Easy, but does feel a bit disconnected.

Finally fitted up the new to me 16s.

They fill the arches a bit better and the PREEMIYUM BRANDT tyres certainly grip better. The Landfail Death Grips on the front would just rotate in a stationary position if you tried to leave a junction swiftly in the rain. These are a lot better.

Also had a service today. The large oil filter was a bit of a pain the get in. It kind of sits horizontal at the back of the block and was a bit of a fiddle in confined space. The actual filter that went in was physically bigger than the one that came out too. I think someone has put a smaller one in at some point just coz it was easier to fit.

First tank brought back an mpg of 36.6. Not great, but all on local driving other than the collection back from Carlisle.  Still not too bad.

36mpg for local driving is the stuff of dreams man, the 940 can't even manage half that round the doors! I bet on a longer run low 50's are easily within reach, especially after a service.

Also the new wheels suit the car very well. Always liked those, they make it look like it's going fast even when it's parked up.

Well there's not much to report on this old bus. The missus took it to Sheffield and Edinburgh to attend Yarn festivals and the leg stretch at speed limit trundling combined with the good service she had is now pumping out average mpgs in the mid 40s.

I've also run her on 50/50 Asda value off the shelf and into the boot Veg oil over the last couple of tanks. No ill effects or alterations to starting thus far.

Still looking canny for an old soldier.

Coming up to 160k soon, so I might mark the milestone by treating her to some period wind deflectors or a beaded seat cover.

This looks ace and really suits you.  I actually think you should keep it

AND it's dirt cheap to insure (£250 quid for me which is insanely low). All rational notions indicate it should be kept.

Already got an itch for something else though so we'll see how we get on.

Calling all Volvo dweebs, calling all Volvo dweebs.

I noticed a drubbing/wub wub wubbing sound from the driver's side corner last week. Really sounded wheel bearingy or front brakey (these are technical terms, please put your hand up if you require laymen translation).

I made a mental note to monitor and investigate if it got any worse/stranger and carried on with my life.

Today I noticed the noise was most pronounced at 1.5 - 2k revs. Well that's odd, I thought to myself silently in a traffic queue while listening to my Red Hot Chili Peppers tape.

I turned the tape down and held the revs round there.

Yup. The engine definitely seems like it's going wub wub wub around that section of the rev range.

Can anyone with better diesel engine knowledge than me (that's everyone, including your cats) have a listen to this and let me know if you think it sounds right?

Oddly it sounded more pronounced inside the car. Didn't sound as bad under the bonnet.

Perhaps unconnected, there's sometimes a big groan from behind the glovebox when I shut it off. Like the sound of an electric Ariel going down (but it's not that). Or a bit like a fuel pump priming.

It does kind of sound like a pulley, is there any mention of replacement aux belt tensioners or such like on the S/H?

Yes twice man, last one less than 20k ago. Suppose it depends what pulley it is though.

I’d be very very suspicious of the crank pulley. Be careful, that can be game over. Does the aircon work?

Glovebox farting is egr and unrelated.

Cheers man, the air con does not work. I'll have a look through the S/H just to if the crank pulley has ever been done.

IMG_20190708_185109.thumb.jpg.eb5d7da4f8cbb2e2fa34f0ce886199bd.jpgHmmmm. Idler pulley, tensioner and alternator belt at 105k.

Crank oil seal also at 105k but no pulley.

Might be the culprit. It'll be knocking on at 160k.

10 years ago... time to do it all again regardless imho...

The S70 will be going in for a crank pulley and timing belt on Wednesday. I'm not taking and chances driving it so it'll be recovered up to tame local garage for fettling.

Might be up for sale after the works are done what with the new chariot incoming tomorrow so cue everyone that said they were interested, diving for cover and into the undergrowth.
