I wasn't actually prosecuted*, but received a speeding ticket for 58mph in 3.5t luton on a NSL A road, believing that the limit was in fact 60mph. 58mph actually felt on the quick side of comfortable to me, but I was in convoy with someone and trying to keep up - ironically they were also breaking the 50mph trailer limit AND didn't hold a trailer licence, but got away with it!

*I moved house and despite informing the police of my new address it seemed it wasn't entered onto the system properly; I certainly wasn't going to chase things!

I'd figured the Dispatch would be under van limits on a common sense basis, but wondered whether the existence of the 806 created a loophole.

Be careful. I had a chap who didn't send his licence off to have the points put on when he received a speeding ticket. [He had the old paper licence.] The DVLA revoked his licence.

Extent of the rear RH sill has revealed itself. Not a bad repair, if I could get some sections for it - any MG or Rover lickers that may have sills / bits of side panel please let me know.

There was an axle stand under the damper bracket, just out of shot. I’m used to sweeping up after Rovers, especially after the Metro sills disintegrated.
Other items removed for replacement today were from RH wing, rear spoiler (damaged on top) and sill covers.

In other news I managed to get hold of two wings, front bumper, couple of front fogs, rear bumper and a spoiler for £60. I managed to collect them from an MG Rover breaker at Boeley, near Redditch on my essential journey home from my essential work. All rules adhered to in a contactless transaction, in that the items were left trustingly by the gate!

After a hard days ragging my ZR the next day the n/s rear brake was binding badly so I pulled the wheel and took the pad holder out and it was just the sliding pins that were stuck in. They pulled right out and didn’t feel corroded or sticky so I just put it back together and it’s all worked fine since. Is it worth greasing or replacing these?

A bit of thread resurrection here, the Dispatch failed its MOT on RH rear sill yesterday.

I'd already welded a patch onto the chassis inner rigger at the front RH side, saw bubbling on the sill but couldn't push it through - clearly the MOT tester could and failed it.

Repairs now ongoing and this will go for sale when the ticket is issued, I have to get the MG Express welded and back together and I've got a VW T5 to get running as the replacement for the Dispatch.

Spent time prepping and welding today, made and cut in a panel on the outer sill and started to patch the inner sill section. Had to get that horrible seam sealer off so get hold of a knotted wire brush, those things are superb but also find the fullest extent of any corrosion you have - I didn’t expect to be welding this far down the inner sill, looking like 800mm worth of repair section needed.
Progress so far, welds ground back and skim of filler on the outer sill and inner sill part patched.

Welding all completed on the RH rear sill and I’m pretty pleased with the outcome, as my Grandad would have said ‘it looks like it grew there’ - certainly doesn’t look out of place. Another coat or two of stonechip to lose the lines, although it’s not terrible as is.
Retest organised for Monday then to be sold or roffled shortly after.

Fleet reduction didn’t last too long, having realised I really missed, and ideally needed, a working van. I do have two other ornaments  project vans in the wings but that’s no good when you have bulky stuff to move (that’s too big / dirty for an estate car). So I obtained a running, MOTd Dispatch 1.9d from west Norfolk, you may have seen the for sale thread but I didn’t do a collection thread as it was quite a boring journey, in all honesty.
However, it did do its best impression of Exxon Valdez and definitely marked it’s territory once parked. Had some time today, having accumulated parts.

Access is quite good, with a few bits removed.

Red hylomar isn’t the best at sealing here, black RTV will do a much better job. Cam cover screws were also loose. Head and block were covered, I emptied three cans of brake cleaner to get it somewhere near clean.

Good job I got a new timing belt kit!

Got round to more fettling on the Dispatch over the weekend, belt job and coolant change completed. Onto the massive exhaust leak, at the catalyst to front box joint, revving the engine made it sound like you were letting air out of a balloon!

Decided to take the catalyst off and see what was going on inside, finding the front face to be completely blocked with soot. Well, that’ll account for the poor performance then.
The only sensible course of action,  remove the root cause. So with a pile of catalyst substrate on the workshop floor and the exhaust reassembled I have no leaks and an engine that sounds much happier. Now to look at the EGR system………
