panhard65
I am here most of the day on Foxmoor business park just off the M5. There was a Volvo fancier had one of the units round the back here but the workshop in the pictures looks way to tidy for it to be here.

spartacus
Colc collection report..."while Colc has put an admirable effort in and clearly collected a car of some note, that effort has so far been mainly practical, more detail is required in his write up, eg, what engine and transmission does the vehicle have, what is the expected power output, is the car road legal, will nuns and kittens be harmed? These are questions surely being asked by other readers and should be answered asap." alf892

panhard65
Â Car is road legal, taxed and insured.............Nuns, kittens and vegans [sweeping generalisation.com] would not approveNo mot though ? I was discussing this with a mate the other day and no one really seems to know what happens if you have a heavily modified classic. Obviously it won't be mot exempt but would it lose the tax exemption as well. There again it depends on when it was modified as I think as long as it was done more than 25 years ago you get the mot exemption. It would be interesting to know if the mot exemption is linked to tax exemption as there are a lot of people with standard cars who are still getting them mot'ed and not taking up the exemption. It is a minefield now which is why I am staying well away from modified cars. If the DVLA decide to have a clamp down on it there will be a lot of very expensive cars losing their V5's
Rocket88
Modded ages ago.................declared engine swap on the V5.........................As V5 is "straight", might get it MOT'd.....just a question of finding a garage that is sympathetic..........In the wrong hands, this would be lethal.................although you could say that about most cars. panhard65
I just looked it up and it needs to of been modified over 30 years to get mot exemption. I expect the DVLA will use the date of engine change as the date it was modified. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/737342/v112-declaration-of-exemption-from-mot.pdf

wuvvum
Hmm. Is the onus on VOSA / plod to prove that the mods were done <30 years ago, or is it on the owner to show that they were done longer ago? Seems like something which would potentially be very difficult to prove one way or t'other, especially as we are talking about a time when people didn't post every aspect of their lives on the internet. Rocket88
This is the can of worms that the 40 year exemption rule has opened................there are rumblings of a test case on this very subject............and, as in every other example of British law you are "innocent until proven guilty", I suspect that the onus should be on the authorities to prove the mods were done after the mandated 30 years.............There are also huge issues surrounding the "betterment" of vehicles...........if your car had cross plies on it when manufactured, and it's now on radials....if it had lever arm shocks, and you fitted telescopics..........if it had semaphores, now uprated to conventional indicators................
