Cavcraft 2021: More Italian slow shite.

It's time for a clear out, I think. The Transit has served its purpose extremely well for the last two years or more, but is now effectively 8% paint and and interior, 24% wheels and mechanical bits and 68% rust, so CTB are going to be called in.  Will be genuinely sorry to see it go.

Next up is probably the Galaxy, an even bigger wrench. I've done quite a bit to try and save it, but I think it's at the stage where there's no point in throwing more money at it. It might get one last roll of the dice if my mate at the garage can get the sump off and see what's happening. The oil light is on after an engine flush and oil change, a new OPS didn't change anything so we think the sump filter is clogged at the very best case, the worse being the entire engine is full of crud, something which removing the injectors has potentially shown up.

The 'good idea at the time' Sierra is languishing unused, no room in the garage and the one I had lined up to put it in has started leaking badly and the door is falling off. Think it's time to do just move it on and end up buying a modern 'sensible' family car.

Whoops, seem to have bought another bike...

Wanted another for a long time, briefly owned one circa 1983.  Not sure the power* pipe is going to make much odds, but it does sound pretty good.

I've always found geared restricted 50s to be bloody hard work as you're never in the same gear for more than about 3 seconds.
What flavour is the Sevel van?
I've never ridden one but I have followed something like a DT50 in traffic and it sounded like about 14 gears to get to 30mph

2.0HDi.

Half the fun of these 50s are the gears. I suppose it depends where and how you ride them (avoiding hills and long journeys probs best) mind you.

I remember riding them, years ago.

The way to make them go faster down really steep hills was to pull the clutch in. 😂

I had one of those with an H100 engine in it (straight swap). It was a field bike for my nephews and nieces to learn on, so it was a cosmetic wreck!

Eventually it was stolen from my driveway, and was lifted up over the six foot locked gates. Could never understand why anyone would go to so much effort.

I'm very jealous of the kids around the town here who zip along the main street on their 50's, using the gearbox like they are in a Fast & Furious film. Oh to be young again.

My mate had  a MT5 and i had a DT50M (both on Y regs) and the joke was the only thing you could ''burn'' on a MT5 was your right leg.

My DT only did 33mph flat out when i got it but changing the 11 tooth front and 46 tooth rear sprokets for a 14 and 39 combo from a Fizzy gave me an instant extra 12 mph although it struggled to pull fifth gear on even the slightest incline.

It's funny i can remember the DT and Fizzy sprocket sizes from over 37 years ago but not the date of my wedding anniversary.

Right, it's a bit of a mixture of sad and happy today.

Sad, because second opinion of the Galaxy is that it's had its day now and isn't worth lashing out more money on. Don't get that attached to probably 98% of the motors I drive, but have done with this. Despite niggles that could be annoying it was a fantastic thing and took me/the fam all over England and bits of Wales etc. CTB ordered for end of week, it'll be a crap day when it departs.

Happy because Roffle win Toyota, extra happy because this arrived just now:

Truly the Autoshite of the bike world, they were almost impossible to see when new, let alone nearly 40 years later. I can't remember ever seeing one in use and possibly only ever spotted one or two parked up somewhere.

It's comically tiny, but that just adds to the appeal. Quick test ride over, it's sodding fantastic and cannot wait to get it taxed and insured.

Christ, I haven't seen one of those for errrr, probably as you say, 40 years. Didn't they do a 250 version as well as I seem to remember a kid in our department buying one and everybody else taking the piss out of him.

There was a Suzuki GN250 (and 125) but they were 4 strokes and a bit different. Around that era probably most of the big names had customs of sort. My sister's fella (at the time) had a Yamaha XS250SE 'US Custom' which was a great looking thing. Had one a few years later, would love another one now.

Wow I'm sure this was in my 'Observers book of motorcycles', I thought it was an odd looking thing back then, I wasn't wrong.

I probably would have wanted one though, based on the seat height and the fact I was a short arse then, as now.

That looks really clean, what's the mileage and story?

He bought it for his son about 21 years ago I think, then did loads and loads of work to this. It's got a different barrel and piston (said the old one topped out at 27mph, but this is much quicker) and some parts are not totally original, but it's still brilliant imho.

Sorry you are on your own with that one.

Where i come from if you had rolled in to the Spar car park on that back in 1984 you would have at best had your sexuality questioned and at worst found your bike on fire and in the bushes.

That's a sod about the Galaxy.  Know how that feels, very much how I was when I passed my last Saab on.

That bike looks absolutely ace fun though...never seen or heard of one before but it's definitely piqued my interest.

Erm......took the Scomadi for an MOT (overdue but hadn't ridden it) and dropped one of the mopeds off at the same time. Talking to the garage owner and he mentioned an old scooter that'd been sat there for ages and the owner wasn't arsed about it any more. Got his number. dropped him a text, agreed a price and the rest, as they say, is history...

It must have been (very) loosely copied from a 1960's Vespa or something and I had to do an internet search to find exactly what it is. Transpired to be a 1999 Italjet Velocifero 50, which is 2T according to the internet. Tax ran out December 2006, no record of an MOT.

As it seems to be a bit scooter related recently, in other news my mate has kindly fixed my PX15. The centre stand was wobbly, fixed by tightening the bolts down on one side and adjusting the 'feet' and the lock set was knackered by muggins here, so a new set has been fitted.

In a fight for more room another project bike went, the RS125 was collected yesterday by the new owner's son.

  • Cavcraft changed the title to Cavcraft 2020: No smoke, no poke. *Even less poke 14/11/2020.

Still can't get into the boot of the Mercedes. Three of us trying today to no avail. No sign of any jump point under any foot well, either. A mate of a mate is a Merc specialist so going to get him out to it this week as he can get it, apparently.

So, in other news after a few days of waiting, this arrived in my possession today. Collection was the complex matter of literally walking 15 yards to get it. Happy to report it eclipses EVERYTHING else purchased in the dire interior stakes thus far.

Ladies and genitalmen, one proudly announces the arrival of 'Desire'.

Keeping the wheel trims as have owned them for years (gave them to the owner of this when he first got it) and the battery will be swapped for a shit one.

I can certainly understand why the PO had the desire to get shot of that!

Genuinely only because he'd taken it for a pre-MOT and it wanted too much with welding etc, or he'd still be rolling round in it.

That latest moped is so ugly it's kind of endearing...keep looking at things like that and thinking they look like a fun toy lately.

Sadly they make about as much sense as a chocolate teapot given the roads around here.  You'd be safer jumping out of a plane without a parachute than trying to use one to actually get anywhere.
