Those boxers are one of the bikes I've always wondered about, not being of the CONSIDERABLY FASTER THAN YOW persuasion. They are, so I'm told, an acquired taste; something that you grow into. All I have ever read on them generally goes on about the shaft drive reaction and the agricultural gearbox, and the people I know who have owned them all loved them to bits.

 

Have you still got it? If so, can't believe no-one's snatched your hand off at the price you were asking.

Only been out on it twice, but aside from the indicators, there's nothing not to like about it, tbh. Possibly (probably) because I'm used to awful two wheelers, this actually seems quite nice. Provisionally sold now, it's a time thing at the moment.

Dunno - 10mil syringe of oil and water squirted up the pipe would smoke like a beagle once hot

I hated the 1150GS I had, one of those bikes you ride away form purchase thinking uh oh.... (replaced it with an Africa Twin that was ace and that with a KTM 990 Adventure that was even more acerer).  On a BikeSafe course all the PCs referred to the BMWs as tractors and sprinted for the Fazer that Yamaha had lent them! 

 

Of course I'm an way off the mark here, everyone - EVERYONE loves the BMW flat twin.

Boring story:

When I was about 15, my sister's fella 'sold' me one of these for £20. Spent weeks earning the money and saving it up, then promise after promise from the twat who never delivered it. Day after day after day (for weeks on end) I'd be looking out of the window waiting for the bike and it never arrived. Got my money back eventually and my sister fucked him right off. Anyhow, fast forward 40 years and I finally bought one.

Much cheaper than an FS1E or AP50, but probably much less desirable too. Got it a bit cheaper than I expected. Not totally original (would love to find some pedals for it) but nicely worn, imho.

Number plate letters would suggest it originally came from a bike shop just over a mile from my house.

Passed my bike test on one of these-an Nreg one in gold. Whipped out the pedals and bolted on some C50 footpegs (they are on a bar that bolted to the bottom of the engine). Got back, put the pedal set back on and returned the 'ped to my brother

Much underrated compared to the AP50 and FSIE and far more reliable (as I remember it at the time) as unburstable for mechanically unsympathetic 16 year olds

Totally ruined when Honda put the cable operated front disc on it and higher bars with horrible rubber mounts.

The maiden ride was a laugh, needed a fair bit of choke to start with then settled down. It's been re-bored so I didn't hammer it, but it made it to 30mph here and there without struggling. The indicators packed up shortly after the speedo did, though the latter came back to life here and there. I'll take the cable off at the wheel end and have a look. Indicators probably the relay, as revving the bike didn't magically make them appear, ala flat battery. Stalled at tick-over a few times, but always re-started, not too arsed about that for the minute.  My mate has a 125 semi automatic Lifan engine that should drop straight in, and have to say that's quite tempting. 

 

The rear tyre is perished pretty badly (another reason not to thrash it) but C90 ones are the same, so my mate kindly donated his good spare. Looks like there's a couple of C50/70/90 shared parts on these, including switch gear and wheels, which means if I decide to 'do it up' parts will be readily available and cheap. Oh, the horn is probably knackered, so there's another job!

My first road legal bike at 16 was a SS50 four speed on a N plate that could mostly keep up with the AP50's and FS1E's no problem.

The game changer came when a neighbour gave me his rusty,neglected C70 from the end of his garden,once it's piston,barrel and carb were swapped onto the Honda  it blew the two stroke boys into the weeds.
