bramz7
So, every year I tell myself I will actually make an effort with photography (namely to do with cars although other forms of transport are acceptable) and every year I forget. Today is the date that they hold a get together at Brooklands, and from the time I first went compared to now, the attendances have skyrocketed. It almost felt as if there was a never ending stream of people arriving today, no doubt aided by the weather. Walking around some car shows now fills me with cynicism and sometimes anger at the fairweather enthusiasts. The show offs. But heck, once I've let out some steam and done a circuit, I can then relax somewhat and concentrate on the photography. I won't say I am any good at it, as I am not a worthy judge of my own material. I just hope someone or ones like what they see here. First off, the walk through the large car park to the entrance sometimes yields more satisfaction than the show itself. P1040982 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr gR8 first photo! I had it framed perfectly, and he sped up. P1040983 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr These MK1 Mondeos have become Ferrari levels of exotic in no time at all right? Well, perhaps that's a slight exaggeration. P1040984 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr An oddly refined colour for a mid 90s slice of Americana. P1040985 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Sometimes it's easy to overlook the 205 GTi, they have been a mainstay of car shows for what feels like forever now. This one was quite nice though. P1040986 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Fair play parking this here and not in the show. P1040987 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr This was filthy. There was a set of spare alloys tossed in the boot too. P1040988 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr I thought this was one of those pointless sports editions Ford did so badly, but its just a tarted up 1.4. Some things never change! P1040990 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Somehow, these world weary looking RRs have become quite sparse in the past few years. Let's all blame scene tax. P1040991 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr V6 too, good choice. P1040992 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Weird. It's a Buick Century for those wondering. P1040995 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr I know these are practically still street furniture in some parts of West London, but this V12 example looked appealing. P1040996 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr How smart is this?! P1040997 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr This was for sale, and it was literally a small bit of laminated paper with the aforementioned words and a phone number. Nothing like a mystery to get the juices flowing eh? P1040998 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Those of you who venture to enough shows probably know the vibe that certain cars give off, amongst a sea of over polished queens and trader stock, this had the long term owner senses rushing. P1040999 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr As did this! I can't quite think of a better A. P1050001 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Jackpot. I love seeing stuff I've never photographed before, this is the first Crayford Allegro I have seen. P1050002 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Yeah, these are okay. P1050004 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr I think I take a photo of this every time I visit Brooklands. Who cares though, it's a stunner. P1050005 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr A nice unmessed with Granny is still a nice car. Seems an increasingly unusual thing. P1050006 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Oh sick, an MG Maestro. Except...it isn't. It's a dressed up diesel. P1050007 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr i remember getting a Vanguards model of a Wolseley Landcrab 16 years ago! Awful proportions, but I like them. P1050008 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr I think these would look wrong without mods. P1050009 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Good to see someone used their budget paint rollers to great effect. P1050010 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr This looked almost hearse like. P1050011 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Bonkers. No one seemed to be paying attention to it either. P1050012 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Same as this, the seats looked plump and welcoming. I really need to try something old and Japanese this year. P1050013 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Great to see a standard 245 at a show. The chalk blue looked wonderfully faded and used. P1050014 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr I will admit, the NSX has always been one of my dream cars. P1050015 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr This looked very damp and ploddy. P1050016 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Parked in amongst loads of modern supercars (where is your pre-89 rule now?!?), they really do like swollen Spitfires. P1050017 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Nice. GTI too. P1050018 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Call me a pessimist, but I don't think I have ever seen a genuine Alpina BMW in the UK. Is this the real deal? Does anyone care? P1050019 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Bloody lovely. P1050020 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr It's funny, there was a time I found E28s so bland and dull to look at, but now I quite fancy one. Shame I am perpetually poor. P1050021 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr I usually avoid MGBs like the plague, but something screamed appeal about this one. It looked pretty awful, but pretty fiiiine too. P1050022 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Banana yellow with a black bathtub roof P1050023 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Weird VW number 1 P1050024 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Again, not my usual cup of tea, but I liked how it looked today. P1050025 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Hidden in a corner, which is a shame as it was far nicer than the never ending rows of Stags and E types. P1050026 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Nice. I do like a basic P6. P1050027 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr So much going on with the styling on these Imperials. 60s bathroom colour tops it off nicely. P1050028 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Without looking up the model history, these seemed ludicrously early. P1050029 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr I think these big old Humbers look great with a bit of patina on them. P1050030 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr I have been seeing this tub for years now, I am sure it was red reasonably recently too. Apparently it's had the same owner for nearly 4 decades. P1050033 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Not pictured, the Testarossa painted in primer that some madman turned up in. Sadly, it was swamped with people as soon as it appeared. P1050035 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Hey look, an Evante! The owner was hanging round it for ages, no doubt waiting to pounce on the first poor soul to show interest. P1050036 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr That;s better. P1050037 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr P1050038 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr I really really don't think these suit the no roof look. P1050041 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but there was (or is) a bit of AC based nearby and there always used to be some weird ACs about on show days at Brooklands. mercedade, Brodders, Fat_Pirate and 30 others

bramz7
P1050042 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr X PAC. Gross. Sorry! P1050043 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr P1050044 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr P1050045 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Jeepers. No G reg though is it. P1050046 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Those alloys are fucking awful. Each to their own I guess. P1050047 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Chunky tyres a bit much on this imported Supra, but a nice 'odd' find. P1050048 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Dolomites look class when dripping in plod. P1050050 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Predictably, this was being ignored. On the flip side, easier to take photos. P1050051 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Nice, but a shame it's become almost a caricature in the classic world now. P1050054 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Overdose of beige. P1050055 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr I hate getting people in my photos but sometimes they just stand around like lemons and it's no use. P1050056 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr P1050057 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Back to the car park now. P1050058 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr This looked as good as you think it did. P1050059 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr I make no apologies for taking photos of early 406s now, and a fully loaded Exec is a nice car. P1050060 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr These have really disappeared now too haven't they? P1050061 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr P1050062 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr I can't shake the lust for this era of Legend. P1050063 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr P1050065 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr I didn't know these were made in metallic baby poo too! P1050066 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Fair play for using this to drive to a show and not displaying it! P1050067 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Superb. P1050068 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr P1050069 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr P1050070 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr And we are done. I think my next batch of photos will be from Oslo. Might be tough going.... EssDeeWon
great stuff! The Granada is an interesting one on a Y plate, that is quite late for a pre-facelift mk2.
quicksilver
Something for everyone there but what's the red VW thing? It looks like a cross between a Karmann Ghia and a Porsche 911. It amazes me how many classics are out and about on New Year's Day when you'd think they would be tucked up for the winter - Stony Stratford was similarly rammed today. UltraWomble
I remember going to a classic show with my mate Bob ( him of the pre-war Morris collection) and Him saying how he didnt like many of the cars as he considered them ( 60's and 70's chod) too new and thinking he was being silly. Looking at them there are many that I just think of as being "new" cars. It just goes to show.

mercrocker
great stuff! The Granada is an interesting one on a Y plate, that is quite late for a pre-facelift mk2. Back when you got a new reg. instead of age related if you did a personal import, sold a cherished plate etc....I think facelifts came out on a W in 1981.Car comes up as an '82 so may well have been a showroom sleeper.... bramz7
Oh yeah, where was I? 2019.... So I have sort of made an aim to take more photos than ever this year, and I have already got a (solo) trip to Madrid planned in the next month, which will be great, as Spain has always been really good for shite. I know they have a exclusion zone for old cars planned, but I know the areas to visit. Anyway, I went to Oslo a few weeks back and it was cooooooooold. I think it sank to minus eleven or something equally as bracing, and it snowed really quite heavily. Should I be surprised by this? No, not really. First spot was this. Soaked in road dirt. This is pretty much what these all look like over there. Some impressive wheelspin. It was really hard to actually see any tat on the roads as most of it rots away after 20 odd years or the benefits of electric cars vastly outweigh a throwaway banger. Yellow snow. Parked rather ominously outside a childrens park. Now that is more like it, all wheel drive E30 Not many of these around, unusually. Holy friggin smokes. I did do a small run after this. Holy friggin smokes again!!! Legend. It was really throwing it down by this point. Stereotypical Scandinavian scene Ace. There is loads of American vans and pick-ups over there, but comparatively low amounts of prime shite like this. Another depressingly rare sight. Winter wagon. Think it's done around 380k... So that's about it for the decent stuff in Oslo, sadly! It was a short trip and traipsing up and down the city in a fair wedge of snow was a bit tough. I fully suspect to see more than that in about an hour in Spain... I did also visit a Tram/Bus museum, I may upload those photos in due course. They even let you sit on them and inhale the ancient stuffy fumes. danthecapriman, Amishtat, Jon and 9 others
Schaefft
Oooh, thats a first gen STS in a very nice dark green! You definitely don't see them often in that color. Apparently imported in '98, just 91k miles at its last MOT, too! I know there are plenty of 2nd gens of this "shape" for sale, but for some reason my want is stronger for one of these, especially in such a nice color! bramz7
For some balance, here is some UK spots from the tail end of 2018 (how dare you post old photos in a thread with this year in it!) and the start of this year. I have probably taken another 200 or since, but they will appear eventually. 1993 Mercedes Benz 600SEC. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr I love the awkwardness these have, despite the humongous V12 under the bonnet . 1997 Rover 100 Knightsbridge. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Some hot saggy Metro action. 1985 Volkswagen Golf C Formel E. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Grim Deutchse Tomato Soup edition. P1040954 by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Weird, right before I saw the numberplate I had a flash of thought along the lines of 'I bet this is an old one'. I was not wrong. 1993 Rover 620GSI. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Nice, I do like an earlier 600 with those wheels. 1994 Mitsubishi Space Wagon GLXi. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Oddly rare and exotic for this era. This one had plenty of bumps and knocks mind you. 1990 Peugeot 505 GR. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr 1990 Peugeot 505 GR. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Now that is more like it! It is such an event to see a 'wild' 505 these days. 1996 Volvo S40. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Early S40s are finding a camera lens pointed at them now, this is somehow 23 years old now. 1996 Ford Fiesta Ghia. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr These don't look too bad now. 1991 Nissan Sunny GS. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Once a staple of every street corner in dodgy neighborhoods of London, now notably rare. 1993 BMW 316i Lux Automatic. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr Yikes. 1996 Daewoo Espero CDI. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr I know Rob has seen this before me, but holy hell, what a beauty. 1996 Volkswagen Passat CL TDI. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr What an anticlimactic way to finish this post. Remember when VWs were not fashion conscious and the desire of the masses? No? Well this was what it looked like. michael t, koala27, STUNO and 7 others

wuvvum
How the flip has that Swedish Ritmo managed to survive this long? That grey Caddy is the spit of one I had back in 2001. Except mine was red.

Jon
Good to see a spotting thread gain so many likes! Updating mine is on a constant 'to do' list but I never manage to muster the efforts. One day! I wonder if that Y reg Granada on early bumpers/wheels/grille is actually just a face lift model with the vastly superior early gubbins attached? That grey looks like a colour that would've been sold on the early and later Mk2s, so who knows. Don't feel bad about getting people in your shot, as often I find that the best bit! Next time you go to a car show, make it your mission to get snaps of the car bores and owners who steadfastly refuse to leave the picnic seats they've arranged 84cm from the back of their car, then they won't annoy you so much. Plus, if you go with your partner, it gives them something to spot, too; Mrs_Jon enjoyed spotting owners sitting in their seats, identifying how Aston Martin owners had vastly one-upped Ford owners with their choice of pews, etc. I know Trigger got a corker of a Peter Stringfellow-alike owner, sitting in front of his Mk2 Granada. They can really add something to the image! Skizzer
bramz7
About time to update this. I will post some photos from a recent trip to Madrid before anything else. I took 450 photos in a mere couple of days, but I will keep it short and sweet with what I post here.... Essentially, anything that was made domestically from 1985 onwards is quite easy to see, as you can tell. danthecapriman, Skizzer, JeeExEll and 6 others
