I do see that they aren’t fans of wob, pigeon-shit welding or gaffertaping over holes in the chassis - unfachmännische (inexpert) repairs, a pretty big insult if you’re Swiss. You just don’t see dirty cars in Switzerland though. Old cars, yes. Loving your fachmännische spotting skills as ever though Bramz. I don’t know why spotting threads don’t generate more excitement: those of us who like them, like them a lot. RobT
bramz7
Not a bad thing to see right by the hotel in Turin. Not many old cars round here, hoping for a lot more in the South tomorrow. bramz7
We just walked to the shops and saw this in a very small area....quite surprised really. Also constantly amazed by the quality of night shots with my phone. Aston Martin, Jimbob McGregor, Spottedlaurel and 13 others

Lacquer Peel
I enjoy spotting threads but can't think of much to contribute other than a 'like'.I try to look for shite when I'm abroad but don't find much. Have you said before that you walk for miles around places? That might be my weakness, being fairly idle.
bramz7
Yes, my record for walking is >100km in a few days in Madrid, but I can appreciate not everyone's idea of a holiday is this. This isn't a spotting holiday either but I will have ample time to do it. I've been to Rome ten times already so know where the bangers are. Not in the centre.... Jimbob McGregor
I’ve only just ‘spotted’ this thread. Your diligence produces a fantastic concentrated hit of great vehicles. The Europeans do seem to have a great habit of valuing their cars in a way that we in the U.K. generally don’t. Although I find the older Audis and VWs pretty wooden and boring to drive I do enjoy seeing them. Best of all though are the Peugeots, Citroens and Fiats. Often so unloved by the great unwashed here, so to see such relative mundanity in rude health is heart warming. If only more people realised how great they can be to drive (particularly the Peugeots) compared to most stuff (particularly modern lardy cars). Special mention goes to that household with both a red Fiat Coupé and the lovely light metallic blue 156 Sportwagon. Now that’s a connoisseur. bramz7
Thank you for all the kind comments. I've recently bought a DSLR and two compacts, one being a Canon G1X and the other was an Olympus XZ2. All told around £500 for three new (albeit second hand) cameras, all to hopefully aid me in my spotting abilities. Saying that, my phone (Pixel 3A) seems top of the pops for night stuff. I hope to see an Alfa 90 or Argenta at some point on this trip, but that won't be easy. But where is the fun in easy?

bramz7
Okay some night time from Bari. There is definitely more here, but it's tiny compared to Turin. Only a short explore, again. I'm also taking photos (or will be, tomorrow) on my actual cameras. The train from Turin to Bari took 8 hours. Not actually that bad. Saw another one in Monopoli, in fact I think an old lady on a balcony tried to sell it to me as well. There seems to be far more of them down south then north, to be fair there seems to be loads of older cars still about down here, especially ropey 127s. bramz7
Uno and Tipo still reasonably easy to see street fodder, but the Fura (not a 127) is pretty special. Looked good from about 6 foot but up close it's well wobbed. RobT, Lacquer Peel, Skizzer and 2 others

bramz7
Okay, here is some camera shot photos from a town near Bari, in the south of Italy. Regatas aren't actually that rare. 90% of Mareas seem to be Estates, in this sort of condition. The saloons tend to be spotless. Odd putrid yoghurt coloured Panda, predictably a lot still about. Not many tidy 500s around though. In fact, most are utterly hanging. Numberplates mark this Cinq out as 1994 or earlier. Not often seen this age, Bet this is a joy to drive. Bloody loads of ancient Ivecos still being used. My favourite spot of the entire trip. Looked great too. Selectronic Y10. Wonder how healthy the gearbox is?! Oddly easy to come across 127s for some reason. Italy. Probably a 2CV engined Visa, as they most often are over in Italy. Lovely old Corsa. Really suits the older (1985 and older) plates. Delightful 1.6D Golf. Looked well used. And the rest.... Schaefft, Skizzer, wuvvum and 4 others

bramz7
I am trying my best to revisit the slightly to the east bits of London currently. A lot of them are a touch stabby at times (it used to be a case 'sun is out, it's fine no doubt' but now not so) but my little traipse around Hackney today was actually very pleasant. I wouldn't necessarily go into Walthamstow or Stratford though. This is what I saw. A lot of these cars will be subject to a daily charge from October 2021, although not all. Tidy Anniversary No trim level, so Base. One owner. Is it just me or do the early ones not rot out quite as much? Two mainstays of old London, both in long term ownership. Yikes. I have seen this car before, but it didn't look too smart way back in 2012. Same owner for 32 years. R series? No idea why this is here. It's not to my tastes! All three of these live quite close together. The Orion and 21 seldom move by the look of the tidemarks. Still a few MK3 Golfs, although I miss seeing sunbleached poverty spec ones. Yuck One thing that never seems to die is the old Volvo population. A lot less in use as handyman vans though. More or less perfect. Find myself hankering after a Carina E a lot now. Awful spy shot. Nice. The LEZ and ULEZ already cleared out a lot of old vans within London, so anything this age is quite unusual now. Remember when JC got one, banger raced it on a field and then flattened it with a car crusher? This was when they were brand new. A lot of class still in these. Not so much these. I prefer these to Figaros, which are actually quite scarce compared to a decade ago, when they were everywhere. One an 8v, the other a VR6. All within 150 metres of one another. Bloody lovely. Yet more Volvo. Definitely thinning out. I actually quite like LTs. Insert joke about awful automatic gearbox here Parked down the same road. Early 'roccos look phenomenal these days. And lastly, this wonder! Rarely do I see such fantastic timewarp pieces like this gem now. I have seen photos of it before but until now, had never seen it myself. Funny to think that this thing won't actually be illegal when the ULEZ widens, and will probably stay as is. Same owner since 1985. And they haven't even tax or MOT exempted it yet. Two hours and I got that lot, and a couple more for futures sake. I will be heading back to this area soon! barrett
It'll be such a sad day when this stuff is cleared out. Fuggin' ulez. That Cortina is superb, of course, but I have weirdly got a hankering for an early Punto at the moment...
wuvvum
My brief stroll around the Hackney / Tower Hamlets border last weekend did suggest that that part of the world might contain a rich seam of shite to be discovered. LightBulbFun
as others say that Cortina is amazing I really do wonder about such timewarp vehicles, because most where like that 30-40 years ago, and if they continued on their normal path would of been tin cans by the 1980s as most where but obviously the cortina got to that shabby state, and then was frozen like that I wonder if it moved to a new owner who always got it through an MOT no matter how much welding or work it needed thankfully ULEZ only applies when your driving out and about it does not apply to parked vehicles, so hopefully for some of the lesser used Chod, the cost will be bearable enough for them to survive (for example I was thinking what will my neighbour with his SD1 do come ULEZ, then I realised as before, in the 20 years iv known that car I have never seen it move so ULEZ wont actually be much of an issue for him!) I dont think we have that marque in the UK, tbh I thought it was just your generic SUV/crossover/whatever-over, but the square number plate made me take a closer look and then I saw the badging! I wonder what its all about, especially being so modern, (you see relatively plenty of imported older yank stuff, but nothing modern like the above) no model info on the DVLA either which is strange for a modern vehicle was it RHD or LHD?
