bramz7
I have been using all this downtime to good effect. That's right, editing tons of car photos yet to be posted on the internet. There is 4000 odd though. I recently remembered I took my (first ever) DSLR with me on the mega Italy trip myself and partner went on last November. I was still very much finding my feet using it and ashamedly only took one (and most definitely the wrong) lens with me, but with a dab of editing they have come out okay. For £129, I think it's a pretty decent thing. I usually use a Canon point and shoot, but took this out a few times. Some from Turin. All right outside the hotel. In actual fact the area we were staying in was great for genuinely random old crud laying about. Close by. Perversely there was ANOTHER 124 around the corner. Can't beat a Tipo. I attempted some wanky shots with mixed results. Oddly tidy for a Marea over there now. Would these have sold well over here? Maybe. See, more attempts at arty. I was miles away from this, genuinely. Spotted whilst crossing the bridge from the old Olympic village towards Lingotto, the former Fiat factory (yes with the rooftop test track) now in use as a mall and HQ. More small Fiats. The tape was a neat touch. It's quite easy to become despondent to 90s tat in Europe as there is loads around. But when did you see a Megane Coupe wearing trims here? A nice pair in the middle of the city. Rough Cinqs everywhere. Strange eh? Not as strange as the identical one being used a taxi though. Volvos look weathered everywhere. Helpfully parked right outside our hotel This is a Stilo Cross. Not sold here either. Some select shots from the car museum in Turin, sadly I didn't take many good ones as the camera was set wrong. It's not bad as far as mainstream car museums go, but still slightly suffers with a going through the ages theme, which promptly dies when it gets to the 1970s. However the lower floor has an ever changing revolving display, which usually borrows cars and concepts from design houses. Worth it for that alone IMO. Now Bari. HOURS AWAY by train. Can't beat a rough as hell E30. I then attempted some detail shots of more recent Lancias, of which there is ample. And finally Rome. I really did use my other camera far more in Bari and Rome, taking around 400 photos in both. I believe this is a base Croma. Tidy for a Panda, despite signs of rot. And finally, this stunner. Sadly, my incorrect choice of lens meant I couldn't get a front shot further away than this! Shite Ron, andyberg, HMC and 8 others
andyberg
Great pictures Bramz. Makes me wish I had a good camera. So much more better stuff abroad. I shall follow with interest from now on, much like ?
HMC
Wonderful pics. Also quite poignant as we see people milling around in everyday scenes in the northern Italian cities that soon would be very different.
RobT
That Croma base is superb. The trims look K11 Micra but I'm sure they're not.
bramz7
Thanks for the comments. Yes I suspect northern Italy will not be quite the same for a while, but then southern Italy will also be effected, in a slightly different way I fear. Either way, when this eventually dies down, and I am under no false illusion to how far away that could be, I am going to be back there with my camera(s). bramz7
Okay time for some more photos, a bit of everything (hopefully) in this upload. Renault 11 seen down a driveway in Salisbury. Not sure if I posted this already, but this R14 has done nearly 400,000km. Seen early morning in Mulhouse. And the same morning. I love the old plates. This was a shock, a tidy 25 in a wealthy London suburb. Lowly spec often looks more exotic these days, a lot of the surviving 75s in Italy are generally the later ones. Nice old 80. Quite a lot to like here, it's been a long time since I saw something sporting metal pressed plates which presumably are original. Oddly, these 121s live very near one another, but not near enough to be the same owner or household. This was impressively tidy for such an old Roma car. This, not so much. But still, impressive to see considering it was the dark depths of November. Quite a high spec Rover, seen in Taranto which is basically the Italian Portsmouth. I did not know this until we arrived. A pair of nice 205s. I really do prefer the earlier models with orange indicators, it just seems more suitable to me. This was found in the Lecce market, which seemed to have a lot of old vans in attendance. Unfortunately my friend was bursting for the toilet so we had to rush off. Rude. All owned by the same person. They also have a TVR Tuscan and a driveway full of broken 300s. Grotty 500 looked like it had been dragged out of a damp garage and dumped. Curiously I recently learned Italy has no SORN equivalent and cars without valid 'Revisione' can live on the street with valid insurance and tax payments. If you manage to store it, you still have to pay the tax. Pleased to see one of these. Another grotty Roman landmark. Utterly charming, seen in Brindisi. Small city but the seafront area is very tidy. In fact, the further you venture from the sea, the rougher it gets. Cor. Not much better looking than an Alfetta, although the earlier ones a touch more handsome. Smattering of AXs, the one with UK plates has appeared local to me. The Rome examples are a trifle more used looking. To be fair, there is a lot of old heaps in Italy still. Another local spot, MOT history quite interesting. Fearce looking 16v, again seen in Rome (where else?!) I thought this looked tidy until I noticed the gaping chasms of rot in the bootlid. A London icon, along side the absolutely ruined Maxi just visible. Highlight of a recent trip to a scrappy. Feels like these have all disappeared now. I do occasionally see late ones, typically M or N reg, never usually earlier cars. Thank god for the slow moving traffic allowing this shot. As it's in Europe, I suspect this would be badged as a Baccara, I think only the UK got the Monaco name. Renault 5 Event. A new one to me! Belissima. Seen whilst collecting my former Impreza. Probably the highlight of the day then. Hell yes, POWER BULGE TURBO DIESEL Rekord! A very satisfying spot at about 6am in the city. Spotters like me, never sleep. Or alternatively, spotters like go out for early morning photo missions. Awesome Starlet bug eye seen in Thessaloniki in 2017. I was planning on flying to Greece this year to get the train to two small cities off the beaten track to take photos, but that may be on hold. Bloody ace, eh? I will leave you with this. No idea. It was like this the entire way around. The only thing I can assume is that a bodge repair to fix a leaking rear window when a bit nuts...... 500tops, Shite Ron, RayMK and 9 others
andyberg
Quality stuff. Would you say there is more old stuff in Europe than here?
bramz7
@andyberg Most definitely. There is still loads and loads of new cars might I add and Italy has had a lot of scrappage schemes historically. Not sure how the classic scenes compare but there is loads of magazines covering the subject in France and Italy.
