Does anyone know much about these (apart from the fact they're bumper bar badges, obvs) and if there's any value to them, please? TIA M8s.

Car badges, obv.  but these were usually made to order for Regimental Associations, Footie clubs etc. by companies such as Renamel, Fattorini, etc.  Value depends upon desirability, simple as that really.   Some items of a more wider appeal were catalogued for general sale too.   I would google the Regimental mottos and find out what they are in order to gauge a value, some of them are now defunct and presumably of limited desirability.   The football one looks generic and appears to have lost, or never had, the name tag in the blank.   Would have thought £20-£30 for common ones after that it is whatever anyone will pay I guess....

Mate of mine is thinking about changing his 75 for a 2006 BMW 2.0d.

It's got a good service history and about 140k.

Aware of the swirl flaps issue, but anything else to check for.

Also any tests that can be done to check if flaps are failing.

I've suggested he keeps the 75, but he's got about £1500 saved and fancies a change.

Cheers

Can you use Deox C as a rust convertor to apply by brush or is it just for dipping rusty stuff in?

i think they do 2 versions...one that makes up a liquid so you can soak bits n bobs in  bucket , and a gel that can be brushed onto scabs and covered with cling flim

read up on it...it removes rust , its not the stuff that turns rust black

Anyone got experience of Ozone Generators?

They dont see mega expensive on Amazon. Would be useful for de- smelling cars but also having dogs in house I am sure it would help with getting rid of doggy odours

My rents have a much smaller one from the 90s, I've no idea whether it made much of a difference to odour but it definitely did /something/.

Edit: This one was also an Ioniser, so it could have been that which was doing something.  It tended to be on at the other end of the living/dining room when off school ill.

OK, another C4-related question.  It's failed on emissions again, despite me taking it for a thrash before taking it in.  It blew a 0.38, which is irritatingly close, but the tester just couldn't get it to go any lower.

The EML comes on after a while of running, and flashes up a P0141 code (post-cat O2 sensor).  Could this be owt to do with it?  I thought O2 sensors were there to keep the mixture in check (and the Lambda reading was spot on), but does it affect other shiz as well?  Might replacing it get the emissions down, or am I looking at a new cat?

Edit: also, are O2 sensors "fixable"?  I.e. if I take the sensor out and give it a good dousing in carb cleaner, is it likely to give it a new lease of life or would I be wasting my time?

Yes. The Ozone agressively oxidises off VOCs (and just about anything else that can be oxidised), hence neutralising them. I have used Ozone generators with work a few times where we have been trying to reduce/remove the smell from particularly niffy exhaust air from our process.

It does work, but be very careful of the generated Ozone, as it's really not good to be breathing any amount in at all.

Edit: Just to add to that... the Ozone will only be able to oxidise off any VOCs that are already airbourne. If there is a continuous source of new VOCs, then this will be unaffected. EG.. if used in a car where there is a sticky sweet / mouldy McDonalds bag / some other vile thing jammed under the front seat, the smell will return. Only way to truly be free of the smell is if you can remove the source of the pong and also use Ozone to get rid of the pong already loose in the air.

Sorry that needs a new cat. The sensor fault is flaging up because it is "seeing" too much emmisions after the cat. The sensor will be fine but the cat is fucked.

Can anyone send me the link, or tell me the thread that included a link to a humorous fake news site, showing an article in which an old lady had decided she was too old to bother with behaving well, and felt free to shout 'show us your cock' at her young gardener? It was posted sometime in the last fortnight iirc and i would very much like to forward it to someone not of this parish.

Excuse me if I am posting in the wrong space. What to do for the best?

I have a Mondeo Estate Mk3 2 litre Auto Petrol and it is coming up for an MoT on 14th March. Do I put it in for an MoT or scrap it? Mot + Insurance  + 12 months Road tax will cost me around £600. I will only do less than 2000 miles in the next 12 months anyway. Been trying to sell it for the last 6 months but only had one viewing. We buy any car are offering £50 + a charge of £50 Admin Fee. Yeeeeees! Quite!

Reason I bought this car was, I intended to replace my Rover which I have now had for 16 years but decided to keep it in the end. Although I have found the Mondeo to be the superior car. Just cant decide what to do. Scrapping the car has the advantage that I dont have to think about the problem any further and no come backs or aggro from a purchaser.

I don't know if anyone can assist, but I am after a new diesel daily as my Rover has become more of a pet, and I don't want to break it commuting every day.

I nearly acquired a MK1 Punto TD, but apparently someone beat me to it, despite me messaging the seller 30 mins after listing. What is the 1.7TD lump actually like? I doubt one will appear again soon but who knows.

I see the MK2 Puntos came with the 1.9 JTD too, which seems like a huge diesel for a small car, are they worth a second look, or should I avoid at all costs?

Ozone at ground level is not a good thing it belongs up in the ozone layer, what you need is a wet and dry vac from Beko.

Sparking electric motors generate ozone.

They're shit.  Not particularly powerful and the gearing is too low for a diesel engine so they're really not much more economical than a 1.2 petrol.  Mk2 with a 1.9 JTD is a much better bet - I'm a big fan of that engine, especially in 8v form.  Mk2s tend to have more "Fiat electrics" type issues though.

Brake Pad Wear Sensors.......how do they work?

I always thought it was a bit of wire which when the pads reached a certain thickness the wire snapped breaking the circuit and putting the warning on, and since the circuit was now broken it was on permanently until bridged or new pads and wear sensor fitted.

However on my car I got a 'check brake pads!' warning and an amber (O) type warning light on earlier, however, it didnt come back on after i switched the engine off and back on for another couple of miles, then later when switched off and back on it didnt come on at all the whole journey, then it came on straight away another couple of times when i went out somewhere in the car, then final time it came on about 20miles into a 30mile journey.

Pads are getting low but theres still a decent bit of meat on them having checked (and when I had a caliper replaced my mechanic said around 3000 miles left on them, only done 4/500 miles since)

Two different types - single wire ones rely on a wire or pin in the pad making contact with earth via the disc and thus giving the powered up warning light bulb an earth .

Second type have two wires and when the disc breaks the wire magic happens ( circuitry ) and the light comes on ( or words on the display )

To bypass a single wire type just cut / disconnect it and tape it up . Two wire type you need to solder the wires together

Cheers for that. I did expect the 1.7 to be shit ultimately...

Finding a non broken Punto on gumtree is going to be tough.

Copying this on here as no replies in the moderns forum.

I need knowledge please, or advice.

I've a 2013 A180 CDI with the 7g DCT box coming up to 50k in the summer. As a precaution this should mean a transmission fluid and filters change. As I can't find a "how to" on YouTube I presume it's a bit involved and a dealer or specialist job?

Make my day and tell me this is wrong as the parts are easily sourced.

I had a BMW the other day that put up the amber warning for pads when it had started to wear through the wire. It then goes red when the wire breaks. There was plenty of life left on them but trying to get the light off was a nightmare. I suspect it was the pattern replacement sensor or you need BMW diagnostics to turn it off. My customer wasn't too bothered about it and I will have another go next time it is in. It is a right pain when it takes more time trying to turn the light off than to do the job.

BMW use a different system again where the car guesses the life of the brakes based on distance and driving style. Condition based servicing its called. Where you have a service done then two days later it pings up service on the dash cos it thinks the pads are low.

You can reset it manually on idrive cars but I usually plug em in

Oh and you need to trick it into thinking its had new pads by unplugging the sensor and plugging it back in first
