stoterstangen90
Hey Michiel -nice pics!Whats the rulles there on number plates? is there a cut off for black/silver- as oppposed to yellow? Do any of the numbers signify location -like in France -or age- like here?plates were age relatedbefore 1978 you may use the dark blue/white plates. Imported classic cars have special series. It belongs to the year if they may use the blue plates. before 1973, you may use blue plates, and you got a D series plate.

michiel
Cheers SS90! I think the silver Merc coupe isn't allowed to carry blue plates, and when you import an old car you have to ask for an older style plate (they use series they didn't use in the period) - see the Giulia, that was imported two months ago. I think that if you don't ask specifically for an 'old' plate you'll end up with a 2007 plate, I've seen quite a few 70's Mercedes with new plates recently, and that bakery 2CV has very new plates. The less 'winy' answer (sorry, had a few at dinner) is, I still haven't heard from that bidder, so if you're still dead serious... I'll try to pay the Sim a visit soon to see how/if it drives at all before we take this any further, will get back to ya Nigel, maybe you can send me a message with your bid in the meantime? reallyloud
http://homepages.cwi.nl/~dik/english/reg/NL/reg.htmlFantastic! I've been trying to get my head around the dutch plate system since I was wee. The young Datsuncherry figured out the french system at an early age - but that really tells you very little about the age of the car, just the district is located but if you move you have change plates which is rubbish.German and Italian plates have location identifiers too, how do other countries work? ChinaTom
for trivia only:Chinese plates are divided into:regular size Blue plates: General passenger cars. One character denoting the province of registration origin*, then a letter to signify the county / city it was registered in, then A**** if it is a State Enterprise purchased car, T**** if it a taxi, and then just numbers and letters that can identify the age and the district if you know the local codes. The order of the letters after the character generally follows the political and economic importance of the region - A is always the capital, B the second city, and anything after P is usually a mountain range. Only 2 provinces (Sichuan and GuangDong) have used up their roman alphabet possibilities, and as a result some counties were administratively merged rather then simply using 1A, or a different combination of letters. Mad. Now that the Chinese have realized that there can be more than 99,999 cars in a city, they have started to use letters after the geographical identification letter and so if you are a local and track the plates regularly, you can see how new a car is. For instance, Nanning is now issuing æ¡‚ABY***. "æ¡‚" is the Provincial identity character for GuangXi Province, and "A" is Nanning. "BY" means we have started at 00001 and passed 99999, been through all the AA***'s and now are nearly finished with the AB's. China is sure that Nanning cannot accommodate enough vehicles to reach æ¡‚AZZZZ!Little (Italian sized) blue plates - Motorcycles below 50ccYellow plates: HGV's, busses and motorbikes - anything not classed as a car, but moves.White plates: Dreaded police, public security, army and military police. Police have the "jing - è¦" character in red, and some provinces follow it with a V or an O. PS and the army have various different (often with threatening meanings) characters then numbers; and MilPol have WJ with numbers following. If you see a WJ plate, let it do what the hell it wants - these guys do NOT muck around with traffic rules and regs.Any Yellow or Blue plate with a province character followed by an O signifies a political official's vehicle. Again, they'll do what the like at a traffic light.A Black plate is a car purchased with foreign capital (by a Foreign Investor), and if the black plate has a red character at the end, it means that it is an embassy car.A Red plate is a car from neighbouring countries that has been permitted to drive within the border county areas of China - limited to Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam.A Green plate is an airport vehicle only to be used on the apron.People visiting Beijing may see white plates on normal cars with 2 groups of 3 alphanumeric combinations. After SEX 010 and a few other numbers slipped through the net, the scheme was pulled.http://english.people.com.cn/200208/22/ ... 1917.shtmlI have no idea whether this forum will display Chinese characters, and if it doesn't, this will be an even bigger waste of time than if it did. Here are the Provincial identifiers:京 - BeiJing黑 - HeiLongJiangè¾½ - LiaoNingå‰ - JiLinæ´¥ - TianJiné² - ShanDongè‹ - JiangSuæµ™ - ZheJiangè’™ - Inner Mongoliaæ–° - XinJiangçâ€Ëœ - GanSu陕 - ShaanXi晋 - ShanXiçš– - AnHuièµ£ - JiangXi粤 - GuangDongæ¡‚ - GuangXi云 - YunNanéÂ’ - QingHaiè— - Tibetå® - NingXiaé„‚ - HuBei湘 - HuNanç‘œ - ChongQingè´µ - GuiZhou冀 - HeBeié—½ - FuJianå· - SiChuanNow, let's get really sad : Take the 云 province of YunNan,A is KunMing MunicipalityB used to be DongChuan County but has now been discontinuedC is ZhaoTong PrefectureD is QuJing PrefectureE is ChuXiong PrefectureF is YuXi PrefectureG is HongHe PrefectureH is WenShan CountyJ is SiMao PrefectureK is XiShuangBanNa PrefectureL is DaLi PrefectureM is BaoShan PrefectureN is MangShi PrefectureP is LiJiang PrefectureQ is NuJiang CountyR is DiQing CountyS is LinCang PrefectureI'll be testing you all on this you know... mk2_craig
German and Italian plates have location identifiers too, how do other countries work?correct me if this is horse crap... In the case of the Krauts the first one/two/three letters are an abbreviation of the "home town" e.g. E is Essen, Du (with an umlaut) is Dusseldorf. I believe that you also take your plate with you when you change the car and so it is apparently the done thing to pay a nominal fee (ten euros or so) to get the combination of letters/numerals you want. My Deutsch mate from Leeds uni Alex had one ending in AX 1979, year of his birth - the AX referring to his christian name, for his choice of Citroen was in fact a ZX. :lol:Italia used to be similar I think? MI for Milan for example. They seem now to have gone onto a more age-based scheme and when I was there last year the most modern vehicles had C* and D* prefixes. reallyloud
Yeah looks like a Giulia coupe or summin'. I have thing for those late P6's in that shade of green.
