  • Floatylight changed the title to Floatylights Fleet - Three borken carz

Dropped Mrs FL's Mazda 3 off for a service and check over yesterday as seemed some of its Zoom Zoom has escaped,  verdict misfire, I suspect coil pack but waiting diagnosis, Mrs FL needs a car for Monday as starts a new job, garage (Mazda specialist) offered loan car, hoped for an MX5 but offered Corsa of much disappointment..

C4GP in bits on the pavement hamfistedly trying to replace injector seals, after much head scratching and mumbling one is out, well clagged up..

Fiesta got a nasty exhaust blow and desperately needs an oil & filter change, also just found out the handbrake doesn't hold it on the drive after paying garage to fix at MOT... Grrrr!

Also just been dragged into helping next door replace a caliper on their Bini...

SmollFL's C3 running well though just getting a never ending stream of parking tickets through the post as his work cocked up making the parking company aware of his reg no for staff parking..

Never a dull moment!!

Finally worked up the enthusiasm to get the ramps out and have a look at the Fiesta exhaust...20210117_155103.thumb.jpg.c8c4ddb1c5dcbf595787412eb24e902b.jpg

mmm, don't think a bit of bandage is going to help! Got the clamp off but it's seized on, tried whacking it with a hammer and widening the sleeve but not worked, left it with some plusgas on but may need some heat.. - Got some work to do on Fiesta but think its probably time to move it on, SmollestFL not shown much interested in learning and really wanted a 306..

C4GP passed MOT after I changed a couple of injector seals, only advisories were for front tyres, Falken's seem to have worn very quickly.  Doing OK for 183k miles, may replace later in the year, think an Ovlov or Merc is calling.. (or a modern)

Mazda 3 problem was spark plugs, specialist worked their magic and Zoom Zoom's were reinstalled,  problem now its shown the Goodride tyres up as the ditchfinders they are..

Finally got back under the Fiesta after two weekends of snow rain and wind, backbox had completely disintegrated internally, finally got it off after cutting a slice in the joining pipe with the grinder amd prising it apart.

Next with this one is oil and filter, sort the rust, clean and polish and I think it'll be moving on.

Fleet update time!

I finished tidying up the Fiesta bodywork and went a bit too "2 bucket wrongun" and got it very shiny, I put up a for sale post and it was snapped up by @theshadow who collected swiftly..20210323_121226.thumb.jpg.76e1fcd7fddc5edd4fa7e0966bbb06c5.jpg

Out for a drive in MrsFL's Mazda 3 and the rear suspension started making all sorts of terrible noises an investigation revealed broken spring, knackered bump stops and worn bushes so a complete set was ordered from Autodoc which has still not arrived in the meantime I decided to cure its cataracts,

20210405_172132.thumb.jpg.be59912d952af80d6d38b03c16525521.jpg20210405_172145.thumb.jpg.abf93388f2d30c4aafd4ca5fde8b421f.jpg

I also replaced the disintegrating gearknob duff Bose speaker and broken mirror cover.

20210413_080650.thumb.jpg.b8ec4d03e13c729a2408feb890a68747.jpg20210413_080705.thumb.jpg.5257f2225d822c584d2c5075e0c1a848.jpg

Now the rest of it needs a good clean and polish and when the bits arrive I'll sort the rear suspension, to reward being shown some love the front droplinks started clunking..

So to the trusty C4GP, due to covid not really being doing the miles and being parked up has not done it much good, a little bit of bubbling turned into a hole in the sill. BiL happy to weld a plate in but plastic front wings makes it a lot more difficult.

It also smelt like a swamp and the seats were all stained so I've had them out amd cleaned the carpets and seats with the vax, now smells lovely.. also plan to give it a good going over with the DA polisher..20210411_130918.thumb.jpg.f144075be90c4f7f3d90d2eff23027a7.jpg

Now what to fill the spare slot with....

Autodoc... still not arrived

They're taking about a month to deliver stuff at the moment in my experience.

I found something cheaper that I needed stat, and rejected an Autodoc package to send it back for a refund in early February.

It still hasn't found its way back to them.

A box from Autodoc finally turned up on Thursday. So Friday night I started stripping down the rear suspension on Mrs Fl's Mazda 3, the shock came out easy enough, but much grumbling ensued and the spring refused to come out.

Fast forward to this morning and the spring was liberated after cutting a droplink off.

While I was in there liberal amounts of Bilt Hamber Dynax UB was applied  (cos Mazda) but much more grumbling ensued trying to get the new spring in, of course in the Autodoc tutorial vid it was dead easy, no need to compress the spring just get a pry bar and pop it in, some ingenuity later it was in having used spring compressors which gave me the fear.

Some bushes looked suspect and having ordered a full rear set the bar was whipped off, cleaned up and over to BIL's to use his homebuilt press which did the job perfectly, he even rust protected and sprayed it up for me, reassembly from here on was fine. The other shock and Dynaxing the other side will have to wait for another day.

Feeling happy with my achievements after having wondered many times why i started and didn't put it into the garage.

  • Floatylight changed the title to Floatylights Fleet - Fun in the Sun* - A topless guest..

Sometime last year I put up a thread asking advice on doing the NC500, camper or convertible and Airbnb..

Pondering which convertible @Six-cylindervolunteered to lend his 306 convertible for the journey, sadly because reasons NC500 not going to happen this year but on Sunday I collected the 306 from the FOD and brought it home.

A few things need fettling before it can be pressed into regular use including some minor repair to the rear screen stitching and dealing with an ABS light, so with that in mind first job, fix the radio so it doesn't lose its settings amd go into disco lights mode every time ignition is switched on! Speakers have gone the same way as @dollywobblers C5..

If the rain holds off long enough I might go and have another look at the hood in a bit..

The dancing colours on the wireless set did annoy me and I was advised  that it can be changed. I down loaded the operation manual but it was beyond my ability to find anything I liked!

If you want to change the speakers I will pay for them, no not a whole new system that would please a teenager!
