^^^ And be careful not to drop your phone while you're dangling it. Check the inner wings in front of the door hinges too.

Did I miss the link to the car or is it a secret until later?

I looked at 968s before I bought the S4 but that ship had sailed-values have shot up.

This would be ideal if you want a 968 but can only afford a 924, or you like everything about a 924 except the looks.

Off to look at this and hopefully collect it tonight.

Packed my towrope, toolkit, cable ties, bottle of water, hammer, torch.

Got my insurance. I checked to see if it was worth doing a 24hr cover but nobody would insure it, so it's just as well I checked. Got it on my classic policy for not much though. If I don't buy it, it can just be taken off.

Mrs Imp not happy.

No idea where I can keep it, I'm already spilling out onto the road in our nice residential area.

If owt goes wrong with it, I've neither got the time or the money to repair it on top of all the other knackered cars I've got.

The worst thing though is that because all this happened whilst she was away at a hotel having a spa treatment it will mean that I'll never be trusted to be left on my own again. At least not with several bottles of red wine in the cupboard.

No pics! I R DISAOPOINT!

I've brought a torch.

It was originally up for £8,500 I think but someone did an HPI check and it came back as written off in 1995 so the chap dropped the price to £5k.

It shows as clear on every single other vin checking service out there, RAC, TotalCarCheck etc. However, HPI have been in this game a lot longer than anyone else and therefore its probably correct. However they can't confirm how it was written off as they don't hold records. If it was definitely a cat D I'd not be worried at all, cat C would be more of a worry obviously. But they don't know, they just have the marker there. It could be an admin error on their part but I doubt it.

However, as it was something that happened in 1995, my logic is that if it's still looking okay now it must have been repaired properly. If it was lashed together 23rs ago it would have properly fallen apart now. Christ, half the cars this age could have been 'restored' with such shoddy workmanship that they could be bigger death traps now than a car that's been written off. If it looks straight, I'm going with the theory that it probably is.

Plus I'm getting it at a price that makes me not worry too much about punting it on again if I do find owt after the event.

That looks amazing in the pictures but make sure you check it over closely.

Price is good though.I sold mine in 2014 for £2750 with a years MOT, it resurfaced last year with no MOT and an MOT fail list showing more rust than the Bismark for £5k

I spotted a new Mahle fuel filter for one in the garage the other night, not sure what else there is.

Agreed on not worrying about the HPI thing-my M5 was a Cat C, saying that I had pics of it post accident and knew what had been done to it.

ooof, looks nice Scotty, and it's on d90s already ;)

The pics do look like they've got a few effects on them though, none really crisp and in daylight.

Yeah, and I'm seeing it at night. We're going to a garage to look at it though in the light.

I've got close up photos of the bits of rust on it. There doesn't look like much but we all know how well it hides.

Theres apparently some lacquer peel on the roof but not much.

I'll have a good look, especially with the possibility of bad repairs in the past.

Assuming I buy it I'll get it down to the specialists in Batley in the new year to see what it needs.

The current owner seems to have spent a small fortune on it so hopefully not much. Sadly for him a new baby and (now fallen through) house sale has forced his hand apparently. Or it could be absolutely fucked and he wants shot of it.

Check that the tyres are the correct Porsche approved compound!

They should have N1 or N0 on somewhere near the size.

I don't really understand how they are different, but mine tore through a set of Khumo's in 8,000 miles and drove like shit the whole time.

- I've also got a fuel filter knocking about.

I'm sure you know this but check history of belts-the interval is around 4 years from memory.

Mine had been given a quick blowover paint wise so was far from perfect.

I might have a Momo steering wheel adaptor-one thing I never got on with was the Porsche steering wheels.

I still have the Momo, you're not getting that though  :-P

Sorry for the radio silence. Car boughted. I paid absolutely no attention to any of the advice everyone gave me. The sill ends are a bit rough at the bottom of the wing but not too bad that I wimped out and I forgot to check the tyres.

Clutch good I think, handbrake shit. Passenger window needs assistance on the way up too

Mechanically its great. Scarily fast on the motorway when i put my foot down. Not really had the guts on other roads yet as I'm finding my feet but even when I think I'm going slow when I check the speed I'm actually going really fast.

Obligatory petrol station shot

Porsche keep a list of recommended 'N'-spec tyres here:

https://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/classic/tyreapproval/

Of course, they don't have anything for the original 924's 14-inch wheels....

I'll have to check them. Theres probably not much left of the rear ones as i completely lit them up pulling away from the lights at one point.
