What's the slowest car you've owned?

I once dined out indulgently via a temporary Skoda s100 engine fitted with librarian like care to my Estelle, after a few weeks getting used to ~ 20bhp @ wheels I made use of my escort 55 van of which surprisingly felt like a torque endowed beast relatively speaking

Yeah right. My mate used to drive his mum's one when we were 17. Compared to the standard Metros, Fiestas etc. that the rest of us had the Sierra went like shit off a shovel.

Normal Sierra 1.6 - not bad.

E-max Sierra 1.6 - acceleration barely detectable.

Round here, wheelspinning the CV joints off a 1.6 Cavalier was a favoured pass time of spotty 17 yr old Herberts.

I remember an almost new 1.8D n/a Mk5 Escort hire van that on a frosty morning would barely move for the first half a mile until it warmed up a bit.

No fun when you pull out of the drive onto a main road.

I guess mine will be the Austin 1100. Just how slow will depend on the ratio of new metal I put into the chassis Vs how well I repair the engine and regain horses.

Next up probably was my first car, a Clio II 1.2 16v. I ragged the shit out of that and literally redlined it at every gear - even when cold. Poor thing. RF03HSC did manage to break 120k though according to its MOT history. I guess it's been scrapped now.

Next up probably was my Smart Roadster. It was slow off the line because of the dumb robo-auto gearbox. However on boost it was pretty quick. Ran completely out of puff at around 75mph though.

I guess in some ways I've been spoilt by having reasonably quick cars and rarely buy stuff to use daily that isn't. Generally if it's not sub-10s to 60, I won't even consider it eligable as a daily driver car for me.

My LWB series landrover with the 2&1/4 diesel, foolishly I choose to fit this rather than listen to my knowledgable landrover owning friend who said a V8 would be much more fun, probably cost less to rebuild and do the same to the gallon.

He was right.

Oddly it never felt slow on the road though, the key was maintaining momentum, the ancient ex military bar grip tyres fitted ment that it would drift on a certain corner at the end of a straight on the way to work.

Slowest but far from the worst car i've driven was an old company car, a MK3 Cavalier 1.7 N/A Diesel, 4 up and a boot full of luggage used to really blunt it's already glacial acceleration. Friendly old hector to drive though, never went wrong.

I thought i was something special when it was replaced with an Izusu engined Turbo Diesel, felt like a rocket ship after the N/A plodder

Probably that Chevette 1256 automatic I had a few years ago. A very relaxed, steady drive but you wouldn't want to overtake anyone in a hurry.

The 306 n/a of veg oil was not sports car, either. Town work was ok, but motorways were a stress at times.

Knowing how slow a std 1256 engine was I always wondered how slow a 1256 on an auto box was whenever I saw the 'automatic' badge on the back.

Have had a couple of shovettes one was terminally slow bog std 1256. It was the daily as I could only afford to put fuel in the penis extension/car on the weekend. The other had a blydstien head on it with exhaust and bigger carb. Thought I was the danglies in that. In my defense I was only 19 at the time.

Had 3 or 4 Viva's and along with the std chevette were the slowest cars I have owned. Vague memories of getting to a very scary 80ish in one of them.

Me too, but it was a 2.0 air cooled panel van. Not too bad in terms of acceleration in the lower gears but slightly disconcerting when you build up enough steam to overtake a lorry on the motorway, only to be pushed back by the air coming around the cab as you draw level! Still, a great van and always made me smile to drive it no matter how shit a day I'd had 34903681433_4b2bf87a8e.jpgBungleandCedric by RS, on Flickr The red one, although the 2.1 auto was mine too.

In the early 80s I drove a P reg bay window van 90 miles a day , Christ it was slow , I used to sell shoes on Cambridge market , in the summer it was full of espadrilles which were really heavy , I used to pray for sun so it'd do 60 coming home
