If in doubt re Rover come over here Sam and we’ll drain and refill coolant whacking the garden hose in it with the bung on the bottom of the radiator removed (that is if there is a drain bung and not just draining by removing a hose - either either will do) and we’ll flush all that crap out. Got the hot pressure washer too if you want to clean the engine up....

I think I would like to do that. Thank you very much for the offer, I will let you know when I am free to do this....

Also, just realised the glass break sensor in the 850 is an alarm, obviously.

I took the Mondeo to work today. I'm pretty sure everyone knew it was mine.

I'm thinking of keeping it as a permanent back up car. I'm reasonably certain that the engine is a good one and the turbo lag is insane. It doesn't wake up until 2000rpm, but then woooooooooosh, just how I like (love) my old diesels.

Shame it's minging inside but I'm gonna tidy up the beast.

Has anyone got a spare MK1 Mondeo steering wheel?

What do you think of the 1.8TD engine? It was slammed a bit when new for being thirsty and unrefined.

I am glad you are collecting 90s diesels so I don't have to.

It's slow as hell off the mark. First gear barely wakes the turbo up, and it really doesn't wake up until third.

However it feels a lot more settled in town than the XUD, and the engine noise is really well insulated. It's more like the smaller capacity XUD7T in both noise and performance, than the XUD9T.

I've not found it particularly thirsty but I'm not sure the gauges are accurate.

I love old diesels and I think I sort of blame you, as I remember reading your exploits with them a few years back.

Would sell them all to try out a VM diesel though. I think it's likely I'll buy something with it in 2019.

This will tick that box perfectly then :)

The 1.8 TD was panned in the Sierra but I think they must have revised it extensively for the Mondeo and Escort. My uncle's Mk2 Mondeo TD seemed quite nice.

Scorpio and Rover 800 diesels are near extinction now, I'd be looking overseas for an Alfa 164 2.5 TD with the 4-headed monster.

I like the way these old diesels drive and they're quite simple to tune for better driveability.

Do tell.

Not much to tell I’m afraid - I’ve a friend in South London of whom mentioned his neighbor is thinking of selling his Cherokee (its not the one in the picture I’m afraid - its slightly older pre facelift) he is giving up driving and what with the annual cost of permits to park outside his front door it is now not worth it for him so is toying with the idea of selling
