Bramz ever changing fleet merry go round.

So....my plan had been to use the Volvo as an every day car for the obscene mileages I would now be doing from April.

However, I've decided that I properly love it. It drives exactly how I want, is comfortable and sounds ace. So I don't want to run it into the ground.

So, I'm going to offer the Multipla up for sale from April for £300 OVNO.

Or, swap for a non turbo ZX/306 diesel, or any spec Bravo/Brava/Marea. I need my French or Italian kick so ideally one of the above.

Thinking I should probably keep the Volvo for the time being. I also found out it has fully functioning cruise control yesterday, and it must be the easiest cruise to ever work. Literally a switch on the stalk, and another switch on the end of the same stalk to turn on and set. ABS light coming on and off though....

Still no idea what is causing a squeaky whine when it is running, no changes with engine or wheel speed, it just stays the damn same the entire time.

Anyway, the real reason I am posting today is that I picked up another fucking car today. I don't know who it was, but someone linked a nice MK1 Mondeo in the eBay tat thread, and I couldn't see the price. I then attempted to search for it via the mobile app, and was suddenly confronted with another Mondeo. Turbo diesel too, and with long MOT. Advert mentions it's a bit grim inside and it has various marks to the paint, but it's cheap. Really cheap.

I put it in my watch list and the price struggled to climb, I then got myself ready for a snipe in the dying seconds (2 seconds left I think) and won it for less than my max bid, which is comforting.

I went to Croydon today to pick it up. I hate Croydon, there is some alright bits nearby but the centre is a fucking dive. Everyone looks like they would either mug you or kill you trying.

It drove back really fine, I decided to take a route back without motorways as they can get too tiresome, so stuck to the A roads and used the fuel whoever filled it up last to good effect. Similar to drive to an XUD really, and with identical power figures it's safe to assume that was on purpose, even first gear is more or less useless, again like the XUD. Great sound insulating on the motorway though, so you can barely hear the power* as you thunder along. Fourth gear seems to stick out as a particularly agile gear.

Looks okay right? Not as good as the photos suggest, the bottom inch of both the rear arches have lost paint and are beginning to turn, the paintwork down the drivers side is scorched to shit (it appears it was parked against a hedge, so the passenger side is fine) the interior is minging and needs a deep scrub and some of the interior pieces have worn quite badly for 103k, gearstick and steering wheel especially. I suppose 22 years would be a toll on anything though.

I have the original invoice from the dealer for it, and it appears that the owner traded in a B reg Sierra for it. For those wondering, this car was sold new by Stormont Ford of Sevenoaks.

The same owner kept this Mondeo until March this year when they gave up driving at the grand old age of 86. Unbeknownst to myself, I drove past its home today while heading through Waddon.

I can't say I am too unhappy with it given it cost £255. Timing belt was done (along with waterpump ofc) in 2011, but that was only 12k ago.

Will I keep it? Maybe, maybe not. It feels both odd and satisfying to own a Ford, it handles really well for its age, but the ride quality is not quite as good as the French counterparts I am so used to.

All seems reasonably okay, I think the idle is a touch high (around 900rpm) and the clutch isn't as low as I would like, but otherwise it just needs a big old clean. And some vactan on those rear arch bottoms.....

Just discovered the giffer had it serviced at the same nondescript garage in Croydon it's whole life. In fact, when he gave up driving he ended up giving it to someone who worked there, who I then bought it off.

I decided to take some photos of my car lot today as it's nice to just open them up like massive toys sometimes.

I'm not sure why the Volvo has this.

Spanking. To be fair the dealer did clean it, but it's not got dirty in all the miles I've done either.

Looks alright given it is literally a working car an old bloke (who was by all accounts filthy) had for two decades. I think there is a slight weep on the fuel pump.

I have four Mondeo mudflaps too. Swish.

The rust really isn't bad. Edge of the sills at the rear, and the inners didn't come off in my hand either.

This about sums up the manky interior. I appear to be missing a cubby or something, anyone got one?

Just to prove the 800 has sills too. More or less perfect.

The engine on the other hand....yuck. That rocker gasket is shot as the oil seepage is disgusting. I also discovered mayo in the expansion tank today, but I'm still convinced it's through lack of use. It runs fine enough and isn't kicking out tons of white smoke, so fingers crossed.

I hope I've sufficiently lowered the tone of my road.

Mondy rust isn't bad at all really. You're not missing anything from the centre console.

Gearknobs normally available on eBay, yours is screw on rather than the early push on type like mine which is an utter impossibility to remove!
