bramz7
@RobTshowed me that blue Ghia earlier and it's stirring some unusual feelings. That three door one looks so comically dismal. I'm not sure how FOMOCO managed to make something so utterly poverty looking

Surely anyone would be running away from the dealership as fast as they could as a result of that test drive. RobT

This one is pretty tidy looking and has quite a bit of MOT left (along with no previous mention of rust on the MOT checker). Could possibly be worth seeing if he will do it for £500. https://www.gumtree.com/p/vauxhall/vauxhall-cavalier-mk3-automatic-classic-/1345516360 Plus it is in the best Vauxhall colour of the 90s; Nautilus Blue That's good value for a low mileage, clean Cav these days. Mine has double the mileage and keeps going without complaint. Great cars. Personally I just see Calibras as a less practical version. Pretty yes, but I felt a tit driving mine (metaphorically speaking). If you get that Exeter Escort I'll have it off you when done. I had one 15 years ago and remember it being shit but functional. Just wondering if the passage of time will change that feeling to charmingly shit. Brodders and egg
bramz7
It's not that I don't like R8s doc, I've just had two already and I've ticked that particular box. Nice enough cars I guess. See if that Cavalier was closer I'd probably get it, but as it stands it's a bit too complicated to get to. Exeter is very easy to get to.

bramz7
Not really a coupe person. The doors are ridiculous. I've already owned a MK1 Mondeo so that rules that out as well sadly. Blue Escort has now had a rather frenetic bidding occur, none by me so I'm out of that too.

sierraman
Says in the advert. Which is odd as these rarely blow a head gasket. Rare as it is it’s £200 with that problem, either to break, repair or in all likelihood banger race. When I broke the Saloon I had there were loads wanting it to race, again it was a sound car but the clutch was going so effectively it wasn’t worth putting back on the road. BorniteIdentity
Ha I interpreted that as poorly written “it had a new head”. Silly me. A shame. No time for projects atm, just motoring.
sierraman
The problem with any Mk1/2 at banger money is they are starting to get typical ‘old car’ problems. Leaking crank end seals, corrosion on the inner sills, the drum back brakes on them are almost universally fucked, failing/slipping clutch, pissing water in to the passenger floor. This is likely to have all these in addition to the head problem. If it’s cheap banger motoring you are wanting and reliability I’d say you could do a lot worse than a Mk4 or a late tidy petrol 2.0. bramz7
I'd love to say I liked the XM I had but it grenaded on me after 10 days due to calamitous HGF. Plus it was slow as hell and drank like a Frenchman, no surprise there. I'd only entertain a (dumb spec) Xantia or early 406 again.

MondeoBlues
Rover 600? Perhaps not something I'd call odd, but they're very good 90s waft-o-barges and they tend to be dirt cheap.
