Funny, I've found dashcams to be the mark of a dangerous driver these days. Like hats in Volvos were back in the 90s. Like hats in Volvos were back in the 90s.I don’t know though, there was a certain amount skill in the way she mounted the front and rear inside wheels up and over the inside of the roundabout. Ohdearme
Good to tick off another shiter from the list! Car behaved impeccably on way home, feels a bit sharper off the line than the aero but still has sufficient poke on the motorway for overtaking. No pez shot, have an Aldi car park as I was only allowed to play out if I got the shopping on the way home I've said this before but the LPT on these 2.3t are setup darn well. With a Noobtune remap, I reckon these would be faster than a stock Aero and quicker in real world. As they have a smaller turbo than the Aero, they have less lag. The guy who owned it before me (a contractor at my work) also had an auto Aero that his wife owned and used. They had a go at the traffic light GP next to each other. He reckoned that this silver 9-5 was ahead upto around 50mph, when the Aero then pulled ahead. This is the thread I made when I procured it: http://autoshite.com/topic/25800-sics-silver-saab-9-5-23t-vector-gone/
Ohdearme
Dolly Parton?Only put that on as the nice Indian lady that updated my insurance over the phone referred to it as a SAAB ‘9 to 5’ and it amused me far more than it should have. Full test comes tomorrow when the wife compares the two silver steeds side by side and decides which one gets to stay or go... Guest Hooli
Fingers crossed this stays in shitterville, just don't take her to town in it first or the gearbag might put her off. It's not bad, it's just not smooth like it should be.
Ohdearme
Will be running this for at least a month as I’ve switched all the insurances around and sorned the Mondy, pending roffle. Suspension is more communicative* over bumps than Mondeo due to subframe bushes but otherwise feels a lot tighter ant 100k less than my Aero was. Also, did you ever get the heater sorted? It was warm for ages then last two miles after a stop and start it tried to ice over my plums regardless of button mashing on the temp controls? I have the seats a scrub up too with some left over leather balm/dye.
SiC
It was only the fan that I was having trouble with. I replaced the motor and it still didn't work. Turned out to be the motor controller had a few duff solder joints. I reworked them and the fan started to work fine. Not sure what the problem with it going cold is. Is it only the drivers side that goes cold? Sounds like the heater flap position motor is a bit out of whack. If both sides, then I'd check the pipes to the cabin heater matrix are still hot when it's blowing cold. If they're not, then it's something to do with the water flow. If they are, then it's something to do with the climate control system not putting it's flaps in the right place.
SiC
I wonder if it's this?https://www.esaabparts.com/saab/parts/90566947 Item 19 in the diagram. I have vague recollection that Rover (75?) used this part too and it often would fail leaving no heating. Part looks cheap enough and readily available from GSF and the likes. I'd first check that the vacuum hose isn't split too.
Guest Hooli
It's not that SiC. It hasn't got the 'starship enterprise' valve, not all of them do. It's also not the flap motors as I solved them cracking with a blob of epoxy so the RH one will probably never come off again. When it goes cold it's down to the matrix going cold. I've traced it back and it's cold from the metal pipe across the back of the block that feeds the matrix. I believe it's either the S-bend hose from that to the water pump or the outlet on the water pump itself that's partly blocked. My thinking leans towards the hose as that'd be more affected by heat and if it bends more as bits expand with heat then it could be cutting the flow off. You need to get the engine mount off that corner to get in there though so I never got around to it. It only happens when driven slow and the temp gauge moves up slightly (to just over half I think). Stay over 45-50mph and it's hot all day as proved on various trips to Scotland I did.
SiC
Possibly just a good flush through of the system would fix it then. Or sluggish Thermostat? (Didn't you change that? Genuine part?)
SiC
Did you ever determine if the water pump was leaking? Or was the leak out of one of the hoses?
Ohdearme
On the long run from Donny on the motorway is was nice and toasty. The short run back from Aldi to my house (30 mph and 2 miles) it was cold then. Will run it out today and see how it is.
Ohdearme
And what was the spare hammerhead alloy in the boot for again? I forget...
SiC
Owner before me hit a very large pothole when going around a roundabout, which cracked an alloy. The one in the boot was the only one his local specialist had to hand in the right size but obviously wrong style. Hooli sourced a matching alloy to replace it so they all matched again. Guest Hooli
Possibly just a good flush through of the system would fix it then. Or sluggish Thermostat? (Didn't you change that? Genuine part?) I fitted a new 'stat, the gauge is now rock steady so I'm sure that's ok. All the other coolant hoses stay warm too. Besides it's warm on a run & goes cold in town, exactly what you'd not expect from a dodgy 'stat. I did flush it a few times, the water comes out clean. I did find what looked like radweld in some hoses which needed scraping out with a screwdriver so I'm going with more of that but causing an issue because it's in a thinner hose. Did you ever determine if the water pump was leaking? Or was the leak out of one of the hoses? I never did trace the last bit of water loss, I still think it's in the waterpump area so I'd always planned to swap that & check the S-hose at the same time. Most of the loss was the matrix pipes that eventually split properly & hid the car in a cloud of steam months ago. On the long run from Donny on the motorway is was nice and toasty. The short run back from Aldi to my house (30 mph and 2 miles) it was cold then. Will run it out today and see how it is. Aye it does that, you get about 20mins from cold to sit in stop start traffic before it goes cold. I find it occurs about the same temp the rad fan cuts in. A long fast run will bring the heater back, but it can take 5-10miles till the engine bay cools down enough for heat to return. Oddly enough it's less of a problem in properly cold weather as it takes much longer to get warm enough to go cold (if you see what I mean) then cools down enough to work again much quicker. SiC
Does sound a bit like a sticky thermostat to me to be honest. If there isn't a bypass valve in the heating circuit, there isn't too much it can be! Blockage, thermostat or water pump.
Guest Hooli
The engine temp doesn't change though so it can't be the stat to my mind.
