I've been absolutely harassed for time of late and have made an utterly half arsed attempt at selling it to Joe Public and will now make a similarly half arsed bid to sell it on here;

Blurb from gumtree;

Quote

Peugeot 406
2.0 Petrol
Circa 115k
MOT 22/08/2020

Car is in overall tidy condition, save for scuff on OSR wing. Has spent all of it's life before my ownership down south, away from quite as much salt on the road.

I serviced it last week with Castrol Fully Synthetic oil and Bosch filter.

Has had recent routine work, rear discs and pads and a cambelt/timing belt and water pump around two years back so not required for a while.

Air conditioning is ice cold.

Two keys, V5 in my name and plenty history.

£450 to a shiter?

Finally, the 205 has been sitting looking sorry for itself. MOT ran out, but it has a cracked windscreen which needs replaced, which has rather left me in limbo and unmotivated with it. I really need a windscreen lying about to force my hand.

Somebody in Edinburgh is breaking a 205 on Facebook Marketplace. Search "205 breaking" as for some reason they don't mention Peugeot in the ad. Found it by chance while randomly trawling for tat I don't need. I'm assuming your screen rubber is ok so you could cut one on a donor car to get the screen out with less chance of breakage.

Cheers for the tip chief, as L1 says the chap doesn't have the bits I need, but sure something will turn up.

Is the last bit you offering to help? ?

Always happy to help although you perhaps don't want to entrust me with fitting a screen hewn from unobtanium ?.

Is this any help? Not cheap but imagine the luxury of a heated windscreen.....

You will most certainly regret that first line.

I have seen that, it would be nice in the winter, but my arse would be making buttons manhandling that into place.

Last Wednesday I was driving home in the Heep and applied a liberal dose of loud pedal when leaving a roundabout. Suddenly the exhaust note changed slightly*, bystanders covered their ears and I struggled to hear my Def Leppard cassette tape.

I drove home as nicely as possible and peered underneath;

That's cuntfuckulated. The other end was the same and it had blown a hole in the tailpipe, not shown.

I ordered a new one which arrived this afternoon. This is the type of job best undertaken by someone with four arms and two heids. Fortunately @320touring offered to help for which I am grateful, would have been far more difficult single handed.

The backbox is actually located amidships and a long tailpipe snakes over the rear axle. The New box I bought came in two sections with a band clamp joining them, the old one was one solid piece. Two clamps had to come off, one had the mini angle grinder taken to it. Once it was free of the car some twisting, shoving and braying the absolute fuck out of it with a hammer had it over the back axle and free.

Man at work. No need to jack up here.

Old vs New, spot where the new one splits in twain.

The new one was hang'd and the tailpipe manoeuvred into place quick smart. The entire job completed in about an hour, which was far quicker than anticipated. I am truly dreadful at photographing my work, so I don't even have one of the new system in place, sorry.

Then it was away for celebratory chips. The Heep is nice and quiet again and I'm free of the worry of a fucked exhaust system held together on hopes and dreams.

The 405s removal from Winter lodgings was delayed into May sometime by current coronavirus carry on. It had come out bone dry but covered in stour and dust.

It got a quick wash tonight and is actually a different colour for it.

It's in good fettle now. As documented in the last few weeks has had a new backbox, new rear shocks and I've now shod the back wheels with new tyres. Toyo Nanoenergy 3 apparently, we'll see how they measure up. Fronts are some Goodyear all season jobbies, they've worn their 20k very well and still have decent life in them.

While out washing it I got a message from@Gerrymcd about the 406 and from first contact to sale completed was about two hours or so. It was a really good car for me, if it wasn't for the Heep incoming I would have kept it on but three cars is too much, nevermind four.

So...

That leaves the 405, Heep and 205. I'm really happy with the state of the first two after the recent spate of works. I don't particularly want to keep three cars taxed and insured, but the 205 is languishing looking a bit sorry for itself and I'd like to give it a chance at life, so with the heat off elsewhere in the fleet I think I'll make a go at it. It's an amazing wee car.

If anyone sees a windscreen, or headlamps for a 205 within reasonable distance of Glasgow, do shout.

Might be some duplication, but just to bring the thread up to date.

Going back to February the 205 ran out of test, remediation was as required;

  1. Windscreen cracked
  2. Back brakes unbalanced
  3. Front discs
  4. Headlamps crap

Work was all ticked off, but windscreen held up proceedings, only got replaced last week.

Given a wash;
