Ponty1990
Hello everyone after my brief introduction on the intro thread I think its time I started adding to a project thread, the title refers to what has been said when people have found out what car I have chosen as my classic it is a 1967 Rover 2000 SC Now I have had the car for about 2 months but only just this weekend have I done anything serious I managed to get the car started after god knows how long it has been sat dormant 1 new battery, stripped carb & seals later she roared into life loud enough for my neighbour to come out and say ah thought it was you! Now I am not going for originality rebuilding this rover but I am looking forward to the challenge. Next on the list is the brakes which just don't work then some welding well probably a lot actually but seeing as I am trying to keep myself busy after having a serious mental wobble a few months ago what can go wrong! On another note just before I started the beast up on Saturday my phone took a dive and I am currently awaiting a replacement so photos of the rusty blue Steptomobile are scarce. Split_Pin
Welcome along. Looks perfect as is rather than over restored. Just how I recall seeing them in the early 1980s. eddyramrod

N Dentressangle
Pretty car. Often fancy one of those. David Bache apparently took his inspiration for the roof line at the rear from the Citroen DS - if you compare them you can kind of see where he was aiming at, and your Mk 1 has that purity of the original which makes it nice. Ponty1990
Sunday night update the car pretty much starts first time all the time now also re-attached the exhaust so it does not sound like a tractor anymore so I turned my attention to the clutch as it seemed to be engaged all the time and the travel of the pedal was minimal. Seals on the slave cylinder were shot and as I removed the master the pushrod was bent and sheared off explains why there was no clutch! Now I tried to remove the pushrod from the inside the car from the pedal but the slot on the end for a flathead screwdriver has opened up and it does not want to come loose any ideas of how I can remove it? annnnnnnnnnnd would it be easier to replace the master cylinder or am I able just to get a replacement pushrod? purplebargeken, Burnside, Split_Pin and 1 other

Crispian_J_Hotson
Shirley the brakes can't be any worse on these than the 635's pressure accumulator running off of the power steering set up abomination? davehedgehog31

Give member 'Angrydicky' a shout, he works for, or worked for an outfit that specialises in brake parts for classics. He was very helpful when it came to what could be done about a Mk4 Cortina master cylinder for a kit car I had about a year ago.

Ponty1990
So this is what the cylinder is supposed to look like courtesy of Haynes and this is what mine looks like with added dog in shot
N Dentressangle
So you have a broken shaft (K), which is retained by circlip J. My opening move would be to remove the circlip and have a look at the contents of the master cylinder. If it's rusted to fuck you'll need a new one, or the old one re-sleeved. If it's viable you'll get away with new rubbers D & G.

Ponty1990
currently waiting for the weather to stop pissing it down constantly to start going over the brown beauty, I was able to inspect under the car and apart from a small hole in the passenger sill the rest is solid. I know it needs new wings but I have the front wings from the blue one also needs work on the gearbox but I cannot wait to get started. Trouble is I have run out of room to store things so I am currently looking for some storage otherwise my partner might stab me if any more rover parts make their way into the house!!!!
