Fleur (205) is off the road due to a leaky fuel line, knackered alternator and a few other bits and bobs. I've taken the liberty of waiting for parts to clean up the interior a bit. Driver's seat all patched up and rails swapped between the two front seats, they are now drying after a good clean to be reinstalled in a hopefully clean and not bomb spec car!df9db20b7c1677d202441250e1ed9def.jpg

Not for long I hope.

How has she been behaving for you bar the current maladies?

She's amazing, love that car to bits. Only a few things to go before I save up for a respray on the boot lid and the passenger side front wing in factory colour. She's going to be a stunner

Just thought I should add these:

 

Quite easy to get to this once you have the correct tools.

The previously passenger seat that had a small* coffee stain but using carpet shampoo then carpet vanish spray and the use of a wet vac has made it a little* better. (pictured in the boiler cupboard where the dehumidifier is set up)

Alternator has been noisy for a while, removal and investigation proved the rear bearing is fucked and the front bearing less so but still fucked. Refurbished alternator purchased and ready for fitting. (bearings and the rest of the parts were 70% of the cost of the refurbished unit and rebuild could* have been fucked up!

Two of the spark plug leads left the plug contact after them when removed but happily Amazon had a set in their 'add on' pricing section for less than £5 and they arrived today.

 

Other jobs on the list were:

Interior fan a bit noisy or very noisy. This was solved by taking it apart and removing the leaves from it.

Door locks 'difficult'  Quite a bit of lock lubricant (Lidl) used and perfect function restored.

 

The oil leak is still there but thoughts are that it is gearbox oil and possibly coming from the seal where the driveshaft enters the gearbox. No solution has been found yet as research is yet to start.

 

The spares thread is already on the radar and front calipers are required as the dust seals are not seated on the current calipers.

Speedometer jumps about all over the place so either cable or gauges.

Not much else is wrong with Fleur, it is in better shape than it should be for its age!

New alternator fitted. The bolt not tightened in the picture has been tightened now.

Moved out of the way and it did this after a switch off.

After some crawling around underneath the area of issue was narrowed to here.

It was this awkward to get at bastard. The bottom clamp had basically cut the end off the pipe. I finished off the job and then put it back together properly.

Today was the first day of having an opportunity to look at the issues of the new arrival.

 

This is the first sighting of it when Laquer Peel brought it to Perth on Friday.

There were a few things we didn't know what they did button wise but the only thing left it this led light which is permanently on.

The faults already known about were driver's door doesn't open from the outside and the handbrake does nothing.

 

Both of these are an MOT fail and it is due in March. I am starting a new job tomorrow and Chuck works nights as well as weird shifts so tinker time will be not very easy to fit in I decided to have a look today. I was on my own as Chuck finished shift at 2:30 this morning.

 

First off was the door as it is a pain in the arse going to one door to open the other.

 

There were only two screws in this and they were quite loose so I added another screw that I had and tightened it up.

The latch mechanism worked as it should when the relevant parts were operated but the external handle didn't operate the lever so I took it off to see why.

After about half an hour of messing about the handle was refitted with the lever in the correct place with the correct amount of adjustment on the latch. This was not easy!

Then all of the door furniture was put back where it should be.

This gives the ability to open the window and adjust the mirrors now.

Off with the wheels a which were the tightest that I have come across in quite a while, took the rattle gun quite a while to shift them.

I checked the cables and they both move freely so I re-seated the one that was not in the upside down J and tried the handbrake. This enabled this to happen.

It only really works on the passenger's side and I think it is more of a symptom rather than the fault.

 

The upside down J moves freely on both side but they just sit where you left them.

Having never played with one of these before I don't know if they should spring back to fully off or not.

 

I tried the reset procedure of car running, handbrake off and apply the brake hard 3-4 times. 

This made no difference.

 

Any advice from serial Xantia owners would be greatly appreciated.

 

There is probably quite a good car lurking underneath some neglect but it is 25 years old and should be much worse.
