carlo
OK I've had this Volvo for two or three weeks now, and as I sort of half expected it's not for me, however it is another car I've always fancied 'crossed off the list!!' I want to try a Subaru next, and possibly a 2000 era Merc C Class; after that I'm running out of ideas (and money probably). There are things I love about it, but getting back into the Peugeot I feel like Frasier's dad with his armchair, there's just nothing as comfortable or "right". I suspect if I gave the Volvo a bit longer I might get more used to it but to be honest the thing frightens me with what could potentially go wrong, and I can't keep four cars so it had better go. What do I like about it? The magnificent engine, probably the best I've experienced. Bloody fast, incredibly torquey yet quiet and refined. Five speed geartronic box is excellent too, a great combination. Seats are the only ones I've sat in which are more comfortable than those in the 405. It handles much better than I thought it would. Stereo is awesome (but see below). Cruise, A/C all work perfectly. Dash layout is really sensible. And yet, I don't like the ride, probably not helped by those wheels and tyres. It's too big really, and feels it to me despite only being a bit longer than the Peugeot, and it has that typical modern car poor rear visibility. 23/24mpg doesn't bother me too much but might get a bit tiresome eventually. Not even sure I like the colour either, having leather doesn't help its cause! The engine diagnostic light came on after I got it, I had a garage read it and it said something about boost pressure being too high?? Anyway, they fiddled with it, it was cleared and the light didn't come back on for a few days; now it's on again so that will need sorting. It has a small oil leak, a few drops underneath left overnight. The steering column control plastic lever came off in my hand, you can adjust the nut with pliers (supplied!) or replace it. And yesterday the CD player decided it wouldn't eject my CD, so that needs sorting too, now. I've decided the car ain't for me so will not be throwing any more money at it, but it could make a nice car for someone who sorts these things out. So, in a nutshell, 2001 Volvo 2.4T petrol 5 speed geartronic automatic 200bhpMOT 02/03/2019109,000 milesTop spec HU 803 Volvo Radio/CDCruise, A/C, Sunroof all workingDecent tyresFair bit of service history, including the ETM throttle body being replaced, and cambelt at 80k And to summarise the bad bits: N/S/F electric window is apparently sticky, I deliberately haven't used it in case of troubleIt leaves a few oil drips underneath overnight, so has a slight oil leakThere are a few small dings/scrapes along the bodywork, nothing terribleSteering control lever and stuck CD as above Anyone fancy taking this on? I expect to lose money and don't want much back for it, or would there be any interest in a roffle? I'm about 15 miles east of Plymouth, not that far from Totnes rail station. Have tried that but can't seem to make it work, hard to see where the CD actually sits in it.
Dirk Diggler
Yes it was a burned one! Have tried that but can't seem to make it work, hard to see where the CD actually sits in it.Keep fiddling; turn it off, then back on, press eject (you'll hear it trying to eject) then hook under the cd. It happens from time to time on mine, only with burned cds. You can use a thin laminated card if its easier. Literally the bottom centre of the cd slot
