Penn- ant!

Nice. Same colour scheme as my first. Pretty car. On the road?

No idea what my mileage is yet.- haven’t looked!

Thanks

Yes it's all fine and perfect working order.

I've only seen four since I acquired mine:

One in a similar colour at a show

A grey and black example owned by a couple who live only 20 miles away. They have sold that one now and replaced it with the pale blue one that used to be in Gaydon.

The only other one I have seen was quite rough and had graffiti all over it. I knocked on the owners door and took his number. I then lost his number and couldn't remember where he lived. It was opposite an airfield in Wiltshire I think.

There are a few others out there but not many

Not really.

I do now have it running, but the fuel tanks out, getting a clean etc. (4 hrs on the cement mixer has prob cleaned the tank full of sludge out - but i’ll Check when I get time) It’s on a Jerry can in the boot, for now, off new fuel lines. .

Its a bit breathy, but feels “right “so I think it will settle. Took ages to get the oil light out, but it’s operating normally now. The dynamos a bit reluctant but the control box is beginning to respond, so all lis prob ok there.

Several gentle runs up to temp have it all calming down now. I recgonise that it’s been laid up a loooong time ( 1981 judging by the tax disc) so gently gently. Oil & filter change soon, methinks.

I’ve replaced all the brakes, shoes were ‘ tired’, cylinders manky or borked ( Mk1 escort ones are 25% of the price of ‘Standard’ ones). The m/ cyl has been re- rubbered (probably unnecessary) and new flexis fitted - just cos.

Uncertain on the wheel combo right now. Tyres seem good, but they are ancient. Uncertain if just banding, fitting wider/ bigger steels, wired or alloys right now.

The lights & wipers are fettled, and the original Ace number plates being rebuilt. Proper, innit!

Clutch m/cyl cleaned out, and the slave has responded to a bit of lovin’. Can’t drive it with the rear axle on stands but it ‘ seems’ to bite normally now.

Paints a bit weird. Exposure has a cheap overspray green top coat peeling in patches. I don’t see any long term option but to strip/ redress but dont fancy that frankly. So, short term I’ll let it peel- see how bad it gets. Maybe polish a shine in.

So, nowt to report really. Little happening here, yet.

Yup, I think run’ as is’ is , is the wisest short term ( read cheapskate) option. There is near identical Green paint under the flaking green paint, so it’ll not suffer.

It has a full size boot lid, like the 10’s. It was the base level 8 that had a simple spare wheel slot only. The is the luxury end of the market...

Eddy, I had one on chrome wires many moons back, sadly destroyed in my huge barn fire. It looked the nuts, but the costs make my eyes water! It’s a simple Bolton option using Spitfire hub adaptors, so if I can find a set of sensibly priced, not too worn ones ( spline wear is absolutely key) it may happen.

Tried twice to bleed the brakes using suction , gravity etc without any luck so I will assault a passing ped, or family member to vigorously pump the pedal whilst I twiddle.

I’ve had this several weeks now, need it sorted. Loads in the queue!

Nige, if you want a hand with the brakes give me a shout... I’m not busy at the mo!

Nice work on it so far too, it’s been off the road longer than I’ve been alive!!

Cheers mate!

I’ve stripped the master cylinder down twice this morning, looks perfect but not pumping so have given in & ordered a new ‘un.

I’ve filled each pipe independently so once the new cylinder arrives it should pressure up quickly, good to go!

Now to reassemble the entire fuel delivery system.

Deep joy..

Are they the models that lack a boot lid or did I just dream that?

Access to the boot on the 8 was via the rear seats which were hinged and folded down.  Made life *interesting*.  Standard 8 OAB 707 was my first car, bought for

for £50 in 1966... Blood and stomach pills, 52 years ago !
