Usual excuse is "I didn't think it would be that one" Ok it doesn't look much like a house. Best one was someone who rang me telling me they were at the door, they weren't, unfortunately they were knocking the door of the small chapel in the cemetery up the road from me. Wack
Arse Our tumble dryer packed up , I looked online couldn't find anything that matched the symptoms it had for an easy fix so rang bosch as I was getting moaned at , £99 plus parts for a one off fix or £15.50 a month for 12 months cover , warranty and new for old replacement, so I took the £15.50 guy has just been out , took him 15 minutes of trial and error then he pulled some fluff out of a microswitch connection and fucking arse it burst into life myglaren, puddlethumper, stonedagain and 2 others 1 2

I stripped both down to their component parts and discovered a galled thread right at the bottom of the threaded rod on one of them, exactly where the lower locking nut sits. I gave it a tickle with a small file then gave them both a good toot of WD40 to flush off any more crap, then refitted them. So far no noises. So I've come to the conclusion it was preventing that link from being fully tightened up and allowing it to move. myglaren

NorfolkNWeigh
Just had landscaper round to give a price for a decking area at the side of the house. Ballpark figure of £2000 subject to him checking materials price etc. Mrs has just said “ That’s ok there’s about that in cash in your secret stash!” Wish I’d bought that Carlton 2 weeks ago now, no chance of having any spare cash whilst I’m not working or doing a minimum wage delivery job, but can’t suggest using savings as Mrs and kids paying everything at the moment. I did say I’d do the decking, she laughed as she’s seen my diy efforts in the past - the materials are probably half of that figure anyway. myglaren

eddyramrod
I've just been over on Open Forum - I know, I really shouldn't, it boils my piss far too often - and seen someone use the "word" outwith in a post; not once but twice! WTF is outwith? It seems to have been used as a replacement for outside, in both cases. What was wrong with outside? Is that not a perfectly good well-established easily-understood English word? Show me who invented outwith. I'll show you a red stain on the wall where his head used to be. mrbenn, stonedagain, wuvvum and 10 others 4

Parky
We’ve all been put on consultation. 120 staff, 30 to go straightaway, remainder to get the chance to reapply for new contracts. Informed some departments will be hit quite hard, others barely affected. My one is due for what was termed as decimation. So it looks like I am probably out of work at the end of June. cort1977
Outwith is a well established Scottish word, I was similarly surprised when i first moved up here. Because of all the Scots in the oil industry it spreads like Covid19, i was reviewing a document written by a Brazilian the other day and it was full of outwith this and that. I always change it to outside because as shown on this thread it's fairly obscure. I'm always tempted to say reach around instead of reaching out in a meeting but haven't quite worked up the courage yet... paulplom, BorniteIdentity, Supernaut and 1 other 1

Mally
I've just broke a tooth. Right at the back, been filled years ago and a peice has broken off the side. Not hurting, so hope for the best. Not a lot of dentistry being done at the moment.

Unbelievably at 40 years of age and 20 years worth of no claims bonus the cheapest I've found is £708.
