Sorry for droning on but ALSO HOW FUPPING HARD IS IT TO BUY A CAR FOR SALE!11!11!1!1!1!

I'm literally waving e-poundingtons all over the place but nobody will take it.

I get the current circumstances but radio silence is just odd. Way to sell a car like!

Can I interest Sir in a RAV4 or a 2018 BMW 320d ? :D

ATOL won't help as we initiated the cancellation.

Being bumped for money is one thing but I can't tolerate being lied to.

Unfortunately I'm just going to have to suck it up.

We have a very expensive holiday for August, at the moment I’m just waiting for it to be cancelled due to Covid-19,

also have a chuck of dollars that we won’t be able to spend!

Drilling that close to the edge of the brick is asking for trouble as it will break, especially using an SDS :D

Well I went to rescue it with the other Fiat (Scudo) and that was fine.  Although it does have a French engine to be fair.

Tempra battery is reading 11.94 volts with the engine off.  So that might be fucked.  I'm going to stick a gallon of diesel in it tomorrow and take it for a proper drive to see if that brings it back to life, but if not it's going to need a new one.

Is it that poxy immobiliser thing.

I was convinced it was battery as it didnt start a few times but always did with jump leads, without fail,

Was only when i didnt start once at home, i found immobiliser buttons and it did every time

And nobody has asked how the thread author is? A year is a long time. For anyone that has thought about that, I'm still in touch with Marty on Facebook, and he's still a very active collector of diecast tat.

He's alright I think!  I had a message from him on Facebook over the weekend.  He's a funny old sausage but lovely.  I mean he's a grumpy old git but is very well meaning and has never had the best of luck with his health.

From memory he couldn't get on with screen reading the new format of the site when we did the update last year.  A few of us tried to help him as best we could but he never seemed satisfied with the result.  I'm not sure his eyesight is the best either.

Anyway, he's definitely still about.

I'm not sure it's the immobiliser that's preventing it from starting - the starter solenoid clicks but it won't quite kick over.  I think it might very well be the immobiliser which is draining the battery though.  I'll give the fob a try if it does it again - nothing to lose.

I took it for a drive last night - it started first time, despite the battery being low.  Took 10 minutes for the fanbelt to stop squealing but was fine thereafter.  When I got home the battery was up to 12.06 volts, so a bit of an improvement - hopefully once I can go on a proper long run in it it'll start behaving itself again.  It was fine when I was using it daily.

Worth checking the tension and thinking about changing the belt of it's squealing.  If the belt is old and glazed and/or loose you can have poor charging performance even once it's gone quiet.  I've had this issue on the Jag where the alternator is spinning but not at full speed, so it's producing power just at a vastly reduced level.  This was mainly down to the belt being too loose in my case.  If it hadn't been for the voltmeter on the dash I wouldn't have spotted this one I reckon.

Just called Adrian Flux to cancel the insurance on the 205, something I've been putting off for months. I explicitly called the cancellation line, explicitly said that I was cancelling because I am now effectively unemployed and the car is off the road and my dad has just died, the fuckers still tried to sell me a cheaper policy. A cheaper policy £10 more a month than my most recent pay. Fuckers.

Yes, the belt definitely needs tightening.  The problem is that (because Fiat) unless you remove the whole inlet manifold the nut on the tensioner is impossible to get to from above, so it's a two man job with the car up on ramps and one person underneath doing the tensioner nut and another up top levering the alternator (which can't be done from underneath as too much other stuff in the way).  Also it's really a disconnect-the-battery job as to get at the nut from underneath requires a socket with a long extension and the chances of manoeuvring that into place without shorting out the alternator live are pretty much zilch.

So I haven't done it yet.

Being in inveterate insomniac and ( sad case) drafting designs for the office as I am at home, had you tube cycling my favourite old giffer tunes, when suddenly it threw up Captain Tom and Michael Ball,  which knocked me for six,

I was, quite honestly in tears, not for the general reasons of its remarkable fund raising attributes, which it is  amazing for, nrt for the fact that it absolves this shitty administration  its responsibility for the financial rape over the past 10 years of the NHS , but as I am preparing my other half's dinner after her 14 hour night shift, I recall that she texted me 15 minutes before.her shift start to say she had been redeployed to a 100% occupied covid ward WITHOUT  the full PPE,

Neither her nor her colleagues refused to take shift and knowing the possible, consequences still chose to care for the critically ill,

I am beyond fucking angry, but she and her colleagues should not be cast aside as they have been over the last 10 years, and maybe be appreciated for what they do?

Rant over, but I can't guarantee I won't be back !

We feel your anger.  I have been angry since 1993, when my wife gave up nursing, saying it wasn't safe, and she wasn't going to be put in a situation where she was responsible for mistakes.

What I'm hearing from people  is so different the lies from.our leaders are telling

As I say I feel your pain.

This fucking V70 is about 30 seconds away from having a match dropped in the tank.  Got the new door latch mechanism fitted - it worked fine, locked and unlocked, door was opening from inside and outside etc.  Plugged the central locking back in to make sure that was working and the fucking thing has deadlocked itself again, just like the original one was.  So it looks like it wasn't the mechanism that was at fault at all - it was an electrical fault.  It's obviously getting the signal to lock but not to unlock, and unlocking it manually with the plunger in the door doesn't override the electrical locking, despite a solenoid somewhere in there clicking away.  Helpfully* the wiring diagram in the HBOL bears little resemblance to what's on the car - for one thing it shows seven wires going to the mechanism where the car only has six.  It could be a knackered relay somewhere, but I have no idea which of the relays is responsible for unlocking the nearside rear door.  Anyone got any ideas?  If not Plan B is to snip off the plug to the unit, strip all the wires and apply 12v to each one in turn until something happens...  If that doesn't work then the hammer and screwdriver will be coming out again.

Fucking moderns.

Well the problem turned out to be not one but two knackered relays.  I eventually found a relay diagram on Google, and of course the ones that control the door locking are the ones you can't get to without removing the boot panel, but that's not too bad of a job to do.  Swapping the lock and unlock relays round made no difference, but nicking the lock relay from the offside door and sticking it in the nearside unlock slot got the door open.  Neither rear door now works on the central locking, but that's a very minor consideration as both can be locked using the plunger and unlocked by pulling the interior door handle.

Why a locking system has to be made so bloody complicated is beyond me.  My nearly-50-year-old Merc has a perfectly functional central locking system, and that involves no electricity at all.

Some of you may remember the problems I've had with my idiot neighbour locking my cat into her house. She's not spoken to me since I reported her to the police for the theft of the cat back in January 2019. Yesterday, I wandered outside, saw my cat on her drive & called her to me. The cat pottered back to me & the woman across the road, doing a spot of gardening said, 'Isn't she good & well behaved'. Yes, I retorted, 'she has to be since my idiot neighbour feeds her & shuts her in'.

Suddenly mental neighbour appears, 'I don't do that, blah blah, blah etc'.  - So, I told her to fuck off & went home.

Today, in the midst of CORVID chaos, she only called the police!

PCSO popped round, a lovely woman, I explained that this had been going on for many years and my patience had finally come to an end. She said that I must realise that cats do go in through other folks cat flaps & neighbour couldn't be expected to monitor it when she was 'out at work all day'. I pointed out that she was nearly 70 & hadn't worked in the best part of 20 years...

Copper referred to her notes & said, "I'll just nip back & have another word with her..."

I went through similar back in 2012.

I has a lovely big ginger tom who was bottle fed as a kitten, arrived here and was instantly 'adopted' by my then terrier. She thought he was a pup and used to carry him about and clean him. They were really close and my cat thought he was a dog. Really lovely, cat. Easy going and very affectionate.

I knew he used to visit an old dear in the next street with a coal fire, she loved his company for a few hours but never fed him.

Roll up the mental case  one street down who took a liking to him.  She basically stole him...although legally speaking you can't steal  a cat.. Long story short,  the SSPCA were involved after I got him back after being missing for 4  months. She made a claim to them that I abused him. Every time I let him out he'd wander back there (despite the SSCPCA expressly telling her to lock her cat flap - he was the only one she 'had' at the time) I had to have a police escort with me every time I went round to collect him from the nutters house 'for my safety'.

In the end I just have to give up and let him go there. He used to visit my garden from time to time, however as time elapsed he totally changed in character. Not seen him in over 2 years now so suspect he's no longer with us.  He'd be coming up 17 years old in a few months.

It still makes my blood boil and I'd be here all night/break the internet, typing the whole story.

Accidental or stolen and torched? Neither are good but first is one of those thing I guess, second is unforgivable.

Legally speaking, cats are property. If someone takes your property (cat) and refuses to give t back, that is theft. And according to the rozzers in Leicestershire, you can prosecute, and they're happy to send an officer round to have a word with folk about it. My neighbour is not going to have my cat.

I've been advised not to swear quite so much the next time I ask for it back.

Different legal system up here in Scotland.  You can be done for stealing a dog but not a cat. Madness I know!!

Hope you get your problem sorted out and you get your cat back.

Today started off full of glimmer and hope at finishing the front brake refurb on the Audi. The rears went surprisingly well so of course something was on track to give grief.

All going well until the carrier bolts decided that after 31 years in one spot, that they were very comfortable and not for coming out without a fight. So I slide the two 1/2 extension bars onto the end of the socket driver via a deep socket and start giving some welly. They do eventually release but I hurt my back in the process. I'd love a ramp or a rattle gun to make these jobs easier.

In the process of this, I needed to take the flexi off so I could clean the caliper and change the piston and seals. The flexi wasn't well looking tbf. This was the only corner on the car that wouldn't just come free. I needed to cut this and use the socket set as my flare wrench was just slippinh. The threat of the Irwin "come the fuck loose" sockets must have scared them out because they loosened up right easy after that.

To top this all off. I'm now grumpy, sore and my tea has long gone cold. I decide to call it a day and retreat inside.

Went to lock the car. And of course the battery is dead. Why wouldn't it be. And it's a faff to get out as it's under this 30 year old brittle plastic but it's now on charge.

I'm just waiting for it to be so knackered that it's another £90 down the drain.

Oh dear. Why didn't I just buy a 2008 Corolla and call it a day.

It was a bit of an awkward angle too. Need to be more careful. It's alright now. I've been for a walk and it's done it some good.
