The grumpy thread

Yes we can get you that generic radiator cap, we haven't any in stock now but we can order one.  Reg number please?  Oh, you don't have the reg for the car this part is for.  Sorry, can't help you.

I have given up trying to buy a radiator cap in a shop and have instead ordered it online and I hope to goodness I've ordered the correct one.  For clarity, it's a small radiator cap for the Princess, which normally has a large cap, but I've done that non-standard coolant system thing to eliminate a bad factory component.

reminds me of a similar sort of issues when I wanted to buy a specific type of lightbulb from a lighting store/wholesalers for my collection or something such

and they would insist they see the old lightbulb first...

Looks like we might need a new car.  Other half's Focus might have shit itself.  In fairness, it's been a bloody good car and it has been neglected other than the occasional service I've done on it.

Oil leak, didn't notice (no sensor, or oil pressure gauge or anything - it's poverty-spec) and when we got back it started making a horrible high-pitched noise from what I think is the top end.  Very little oil left and driven for about 10 miles at motorway speed.  All I noticed to begin with was a slight electrical-like burning smell but that was the start of the leak, I suspect.  By the time we got back, the engine bay and belts were covered...

My 2009 petrol ford focus in tank no inspection hole under seats replaced 18 months ago by ford with genuine ford part at great expense fuel pump that needs petrol tank taking of car to remove has bloody failed again 100kms from home in the dark and cold with 2 hungry kids on board.

The end for it could be near i fear.

Monday will speak to the official italian ford garage who replaced it last time, but i guess any guarantees will easily be voided by waffle.

I had just decided to keep this car and spend €600 booked for tuesday for its 10 year lpg heath check up, see thread about brand new skoda fabia 1.0 tsi long term ness.

Ohhh, and i had just bought 2 sets of 2nd hand winter tyres and steels for the bloody thing. Double grump now.

Just need to organise collection of stranded car now, great sunday ahead.

Sir Chocolate Teapot, tired, pissed off, angry, prospect of dealing with 2nd hand italian car dealers and insane bureaucracy and €500 change ownership admin tax fees grumpy face and helping kids with homework.

Have a great sunday all.

Can you not just do the old hole saw under the back seats trick?

Grandmother Fumbler's Rav4 was taken down the road to local garage yesterday to replace battery because she would have had to pay for a new one either way. I'm still very surprised a Yuasa 3000Ah battery would be killed dead in just over 12 months.

In the wrong conditions you can kill lead acid batteries in a few days. They are very fickle things that hate being sat flat or being overcharged. I am surprised they still put a guarantee on them at all but I guess they have no choice. And equally they can just keel over for no reason whatsoever. AGM type batteries are far superior in every way.

Maybe so; but the Consumer Rights Act 2015 certainly would.

Indeed

I forgot to add that this was in response to my post on here on Friday, where the car wouldn't start thanks to the battery being deadded thanks to a door left open last week etc. I knew warranty wouldn't cover it because it was run completely flat. Once batteries like this are run completely flat they're not the same again, so either through the AA or not, Grandmother would have to pay for its replacement. At least, this is what I've been told.

'Is this still available'

(Ignores that)

'Can we come and view it?'

Yes, no problem, when would you like to come?

'Tomorrow morning'

Ok, message me when you're ready.

(Today, 3.00pm)

'Can I come and see car before it gets dark?'

Yeah, no worries (tells her roughly where we are)

"Jane has left the group"

What's the fucking point of that? She can get to fuck, another one blocked.

I'm a dick head.  Getting on well with wife and I gave her a weird "oh god you are going to talk shit again" type look and she's gone to bed after telling me how nasty I am.

It was a weird grimace to be honest but not meant in any particular way.  I'm such a dick

How about a cheap, leggy, Scenic?

She's going to call the garage tomorrow to see if they can recover and assess.

We had an honest conversation about potential replacements.  Options being we either get a new car on PCP (not an option given monthly outlay and mileage limits - both of us are high-mileage drivers), or buy something older and second-hand that might be unexciting.  We'll have a look at what comes of it all and see how much she wants to spend if the garage say it's a goner.

I've been trying to persuade her to get an Alfa.  After all, our garage is an Alfa specialist and has occasionally sold them once they've been fixed...

Self inflicted grump today.

I always check fluids weekly on all my cars but I do inadvertently tend to regard screenwash as non critical. Nevertheless I always keep a healthy supply at home of cheap stuff which does a grand job.

I learned today that this is of course foolish as the Mini ran out of it when we were out in Linlithgow. It was a salty road day so I couldn't risk being rendered blind should a we pass a lorry on the motorway.

I was fuelling the car so picked up a 5l bottle of unpriced 'Unipart' stuff from the forecourt.

SIX FUPPING PUN! It was close to zero in parts so didn't want to risk putting plain water in it, rendering me in a worse position than before.

But that's not my grump.

Once I replenished the screenwash on the forecourt, I restarted the car, it worked through its bongs and reminded me of the dead o2 sensor, the bulb out (connector), the overdue service (already done but can't turn it off), the low temperature and LOW FUPPING SCREENWASH. It could have told me this at home and saved me SIX FUPPING PUN!! It is now still coming on at every start up too.

This car hates me and thats after be spending 90 quid on a good Bosch o2 sensor for it!

And she's just woken up and spent a whole hour ranting the same fucking shit about our relationship which she always rants, and which I will never fix.

She makes herself ill.  I have no words or actions to fix it. But it only makes me sad, because there is very little need for her to be so distraught.  She really is sad.  Blaming me for that is very easy.
