shitty VAG modern rusty bolts and nuts. Seem to be a weak spot

EFA.

I think I've whinged about it here before, but Mrs_Duke's vile Fiesta had a similar 'weak spot' - the mechanic actually had smoke pouring out of his windy gun trying to get a strut top nut un-seized; the car was less than 10 years old at the time. Not even a unionised BL factory worker circa 1973 would have considered using such crap fittings.

My grandad had a triple heart valve replacement today, and several veins too. My dad was his usual vague self so Amy phoned the hospital (as I was close to tears and amys good at hospital stuff) and he lost alot of blood, was in for longer than they would have liked but is back on intensive care apparently and still sedated, but their not too worried.

Dad told me not to phone granny as she was tired but ive just spent the last 40 minutes on the phone to her and she's fine*. Me and Amy plan to ditch the children tomorrow and go and visit him, since we know where he is. I've got 99p in my account so can lob a tank from asda in and flog the gooner over whenever should the need arise, he's closer to us at Papworth than if he was in Peterborough, so that's a bonus.

Granny doesn't know about the blood loss and complications though, not even sure if dad and my aunt do either, I wont go worrying them yet.

Granny's watching the speedway /and recording it for when he gets out, I wish I wasn't 100 miles away sometimes. I get my 'meh' attitude from my dad I think, don't like to worry or cause a fuss but even I think that's slightly bollocks now

Thanks. Tbh he will probably be fine, but he's always been fine, didn't age until he was 65,and has gone downhill suddenly. This is the first experience I have of elderly relatives... I know it's inevitable but it's not nice!

Can't even take him a nice box of Brazil nuts as they probably wouldn't let me in with them. Got a 'cars of 1957' porn mag from chaseracers boot over the weekend, ill take him that.

Amy won't let me drive either... Don't know what she means by that!

Can definitely tell the little brats are back at school. Hour and a half to get 12 miles, number of angry twats on the road through the roof.

I made the mistake of going to pick up the girlfriend from my local train station in the car t'other week, it's only a 10min walk but it was pouring down and I thought I should be a gentleman for once.

Forgot the schools were back, roads were gridlocked with soft roaders full of angry posh west end women picking up their posh sprogs from posh school. Combined with roadworks it took the best part of half an hour to drive less than a mile, never again...

Fucking off considered...and done.

Father Sims has stated he will pay me what I paid for it a few months ago, which in turn means I've gone off diesel. Every issue I've ever had, has been in an old diesel car. Not worth my while. I do circa 8-10k a year.

I've decided to treat myself.

Will hopefully collect it soon, just need to sort logistics with this.

Does this mean that you will be keeping the 216? That would probably be a car that is interesting, but still alright to use as everyday transport.

Looking forward to seeing the upcoming collection anyway. Any clues as to what it is?

Best of luck Beko - I can sympathise - being over here on 'the mainland' with all of my family in the sunny sunny NE. My folks are both the same - nothing new, no news etc... etc...

Went through 4yrs of gran (throat cancer which wasn't 'news' apparently!), sister suicide and grandad...... and it does make you think of jacking it and rushing back - BUT - you find that it only extends the time you're sitting wringing your hands or pacing and frustrated you can't do a sodding thing as your loved ones are in the hands of the pro's.

I actually found that having to jump in a car, ferry or on a flight and organise those things took my mind off the mess I was about to encounter.... weird but a distraction that I didn't even realise actually helped at the time.

Very best wishes to you and the family dude.

Cheers! I'm almost hesitant to rush over and see him. Going to call granny at lunchtime and see how she is, then me and Amy will waft over tonight if he's awake, them Amy mentioned going to see him Sunday. When he's out and home I want to pop up too, if only to mow the lawn, help granny with bits and basically do any hard graft they need to do before winter.

Been head down with work today to take my mind off it, and to build up brownie points for any last minute time off I might need!

Just about to go to that London to stand in a muddy field with a load of smug middle class twats to have the likes of James Blunt, Shania Twain and fucking Take That assault my ears . The only good bits will be Blondie and Stereophonics .

We're giving some of Mrs N's friends a lift and I'm not allowed to make them take their shoes off on the way back apparently, however muddy they are, so covering the floor with newspaper.

On the plus side, I bumped into Jeremy Vine at one of these Hyde Park things once , hopefully will today and I can chin the fucker - cheering up already.

Update: Arrived and parked 200 yds from Marble Arch just as gates opened. Decision was made to have some lunch " Because no one any good will be on till later, will they?".....

Stereophonics were on first! Probably just about the time I was tucking into my Pork Scratching and Guacamole starter, never mind lunch was great.

Rest of it was as shit as I expected , although Take That do put on a good show, I suppose.

Didn't get to hit any celebrities either.

That's a bit of a bugger, does it actually need a new roof or is that a contractor hoping for a nice earner rather than repair the existing?

That's my estimate looking at pictures that my present guest has sent me. These roofs use bitumen shingles not proper tiles, so it is not as simple as just replacing the broken one. To be honest, with Florida being the Hurricane capital of the world, their choice of roofing materials leaves a lot to be desired. The have just recently discovered proper roofing tiles and combi boilers!

Dodging the sodding awful Stereophonics to watch Take That instead should be in the 'grin' thread.

Well I think summers officially gone now!

It's barely stopped raining since the start of August. It's now raining and windy as the first storm blows it's miserable arse over this green and fucking wank island.

I fucking hate winter. I fucking hate wind. I really fucking hate rain.
