panhard65
Ok if anyone is going I will be there from about 9 for a few hours. I will probably have a wander round the museum as I have never been before. If you see the hearse I probably won't be far away.
SiC
I went to the museum a couple of years ago and it was excellent. Apparently even better now. Unfortunately I'm out tomorrow. Nice weather and perfect day to go. But also means perfect weather to get on with the 1100 all day.

panhard65
Did you go in the end? How did you find it?Yes I did and doubt I will bother with the meet again but the museum was well worth a visit. It isn't really a classic car meet as there are just too many moderns and I didn't even bother getting the camera out. I will go back and check the museum out properly at some point though

Of course loads of moderns too, but plenty of old stuff that peaked the interest. Maybe because its autumn and getting closer to winter many people are putting their classics away now? SiC
I'm off to this tomorrow morning with my father-in-law. Anyone else going over? Being a bank holiday and a nice day, hopefully there should be a good selection of cars. LightBulbFun
SiC
Went again to this today. Came down in the Boxster and parked next to an utterly lovely and mint Frogeye. Quite a lot of interesting stuff at this one today. I've said this before but I love the extremes you get here on these Breakfast Meet days. This picture below for me typifies it. Literally something can interest pretty much everyone. I didn't take pictures of all the cars there and there is plenty of interesting stuff. Mostly the ones that follow are ones that I found interesting and could be bothered to take a picture of as I walked around. Some shite, some not so shite and some very much not shite. Hopefully in pretty much every picture I've taken there is something of interest to you either in the foreground or something in the background! Quirky Minis. The one just out of shot to the right is a twin engine job too. Both of these cars made fantastic noises I definitely want a MG Midget at some point. I saw this last time I went. Proper shite stuff. Yes this is a VTS. Very Pink and very fast The Spitfire was suitably scruffy This MGB had some massive V8 stuffed under there Fake Ferrari that is apparently for sale. Another car for sale. I thought this was quite cheap but then I guess its the undesirable V6 and not a V8. I bet this is stupidly fast I love how everyone was looking the other way at the road and completely disinterested in this. Lovely machine though. One for Dan if he's reading. Absolutely mintola. Yes it has the correct* engine fitted. Finally a bad photo made while driving out of one that I missed during the walk round. SiC
I mentioned this in another thread but I reckon this museum is the thing that keeps Haynes going. Its along the A303, so plenty passing trade from people travelling to and from Devon/Cornwall going from London. I know National Trust Stourhead Gardens nearby here is the busiest and most popular National Trust in the country. You can tell the books to fix cars are even a low priority from the Museum shop. The books are on the back row in this picture. Of which the first two shelving sections on the right are the novelty books. The two on the far right is for motorbikes and non Haynes books. Leaving these three middle ones for actually Haynes car repair books. Sad in a way as they were a stable book for so many, for so long. However modern cars are so much more reliable and when they do go wrong, most people I guess just throw it at a garage to fix. At least I suppose Haynes has managed to diversify, continue and flourish. I went around the museum again but didn't really take any more pics. See my Boxster thread for the ones in the museum. The one at the top of this post: Not an Invacar but it's supposed replacement. its a cool quirky little car but switching to a more serious? note for a moment I dont think the elswick envoy was ever seriously considered as a replacement for the Model 70 (for one the wikipedia page says the envoy never got government support due to high costs) It would also have not really solve one of the major issues that some people had with the Model 70, in that the Model 70 was unique to disabled drivers, so it singled them out on the road and drew attention to them if the envoy did replace the Model 70, it would of have had exactly the same issue that the Model 70 and previous Invalid carriages suffered from, in that it was a unique car used only by disabled drivers that stood out from normal cars
JeeExEll
That Twini Mini looks interesting. I remember reading about them in the 1980s, John Cooper was almost killed in one in the 60s. I made a 1/24 resin model of one, adapted from two kits. The left overs got made into some sort of Mini dragster using spare parts from other kits if I remember correctly. Interesting pics Edit - has anyone done a Twini ADO16 yet? Hint, hint. SiC

The web has also so much replaced the book for DIY works. My first stop on any job is the web if I am stumped. There are so many one marque websites and tutorials on YouTube and chat that many common jobs are covered. It is a pity though as you say because notwithstanding their problems those Haynes manuals have ensured that there is plenty of how-to info about on older cars. That option won't possibly be available for the next generation of cars. Do Haynes still cover up-to-date models? Costly books to produce if they dont then sell enough to cover costs. Tomtation
I keep meaning to go to this as it's only 10 mins from me, must see if i can make the June meet, i'm sure ovlov's are welcome. Some nice stuff there, highlights for me the C6, CX turbo, XM and some on the yanky shite too. I've seen that woody Le Baron a couple of times around Yeovil, superb shiting that! Is actual breakfast involved? That's a bonus in my book.
SiC
There is a catering van type thing where you can buy a bacon/egg/sausage roll if you so wish. However it does get pretty busy. Need to get there around 8-830am to have a chance to park on the front car park if you want pride of place. Otherwise you go around the back. SiC
Weather is looking a bit pants this Sunday, but I'm intending to go down to this. They've now split it up into two events, pre-80s and post-80s. It's pre-80s this weekend, post-80s was last. I'd like to go to the post-80s events but they've been fully booked for this and next month. Anyone else intending to go?
