1951 Pontiac Chieftain

Bought 2 bolts, 2 nuts, 2 plain washers and 2 lockwashers yesterday.

Bonnet release pull is now attached to the dash again. Need to come up with a method of attaching the end to the release latch reliably.

No other news, things are on pause around here right now.

I reviewed today and decided to hell with it. I had a rummage in my random nuts and bolts and reassembled the slam panel, connected the hood latch, set the striker pin so now the thing locks and can be opened by pulling on the handle inside.

I also ran the engine and set the cold idle and choke. I now smell of Eau D'Autoshite (heavily choked exhaust from a cold engine with no catalytic converter).

Feeling a little better mentally now.

So far so good

Going to go buy a vise. Then metalwork.

Pumped the tires up on the GTA, need to charge the battery. Drove it to the end of the street and back the other day.

Today I got ready to go out to the grocery store.

Took a piece of sheet steel and marked it out to size.

I chopped the rectangle out and de-burred the edges.

That looks about right and the wires fit through.

A squirt of black paint and I'm calling that done.

Metal work can be good therapy.

I laid the new wires out on the floor. There are a few lengths, so I set the longest ones furthest from the distributor (made sense, really).

I measured the length of wire needed from the bracket to the plug for each wire and marked it with tape.

Clamped it all together as an assembly.

Tried it on for size. Looks good.
