plane from noo yoik booked plane from paris booked

cos they cost less than 300 all in for both  - im not cheap its cos it was quicker than booking jfk to manc as it stopped anyway - which stopped in paris for longer than the plane takes to get to cdg on my flight ffs

looking for the thread it went to the first page and phils first line 'its a 4.4 str 8 and 4 speed auto'

was this common in the fifties cos lots of them were 3 or even thunderburd was two speed?? @PhilA

It had more gears than a regular manual gearbox (3 being common). For it to have 4 ratios and be automagic? Unheard of.

4.4 fairly common engine size for big vehicle here, slow-n-easy to move in luxury.

 

I need to kill all the wasps in the garage. Today it was 37°C in there.

Net result, the car's covered in wasp spray. And the work bench. And the barbeque. And all the engine parts.

 

Still need more. That's 3 cans emptied and still the blasted things are flying around.

Summer sucks.

I was talking to the manager at the auto parts store yesterday, and it made me think about what's left to do.

 

Split engine and gearbox

Purchase gearbox rebuild set and rebuild gearbox

Strip, clean and paint engine bay.

Paint engine.

Remove heater box, test matrix and valve for leaks.

Reassemble, test and refit engine/gearbox.

Engine oil change.

Spark plug wires, replace for new.

Clean out steering box of old grease. Buy new "corn head" grease. Buy steering box seal. Fit steering box seal, refit and refill.

Fuel pump gasket/rebuild set.

Front shock absorber rubber mounts

Ignition switch - purchase

Vehicle lockset - purchase

New glass for driver door and rear pax door

Fix locks

Fix winder mech, driver's door, rear pax door

Rewire engine bay, and behind dash

Driver side front - new lug stud

Purchase alternator and fit

Purchase battery tray, fit in trunk and purchase wire to run to rear of vehicle.

Check rear shocks because they leak air.

Radiator repair/re-core

Driver's side front turn signal reflector needs re-silvering

Finish radio and refit

Adjust brakes (free play needs correctly setting)

... probably a few things I've forgotten...

Tune up and drive

I split the wormwheel from the cross-shaft tonight.

Not in overall bad shape, thankfully.

Cleaned it out in gasoline. All the old grease dissolved out.

Reassembled it and tweaked it up a little, which has removed most of the slack. Still need to add thread lock and peen the nut on.

Cleaned a lot of the old grease out of the steering box. Going to work on the rest later.

Scrubbed the lid down and painted it to stop it rusting.

With a little tweak, they now work (one was kinda rattling, the other let out a feeble gargling buzz). Hot damn are they loud. I need to make some new brackets for them to allow them to fit but they sound the part!

Tonight I propped the doors open, set up the big drum fan and started cleaning up the driver's side frame rail and steering box area.

Coming up pretty well, removed a lot of grease and caked on crud.

This seal needs to be replaced, looks to just be a press fit into the bottom of the steering box cross shaft hole.

I had my first "Holy crap and I drove that" moment. 

Let's all play "Spot what's missing from the brake clevis", shall we, boys and girls?
