is very appropriate for this thread should anyone make the mistake of skipping ahead a few pages

Is there any sort of standardised colour scheme for the wiring like was common on British cars back at least in the 60s and 70s?

While a lot of the detail work will still involve crawling around with a multimeter and crossing as many fingers as you can, it can at least speed along the basic sanity checks or help narrow down potential faults.

One headlight was missing this little clip. P.O. had used Sikaflex to hold the headlight trim on, sub-optimal. New clip $12, screw that.

Take a length of baling wire and bend to shape. Unfortunately baling wire has the metal strength of plasticine.

Cue heat treatment! Warm the wire up until it's orange hot and then quench in water. Repeat but not quite so hot. Then heat to cherry red and let cool slowly.

Result- harder metal that still has a bit of spring.

Fit into place, nice design that it's mostly geometric lock.

With Sikaflex removed, peg now fits into the slot at the top.

Screw holds it in at the bottom.

Nice. Matches the other side now and is significantly less likely to fall off.
