Models of cars I really liked that were never replaced.

Elegant, beautiful Jaguars.

Do you remember those? When an XJ was a stunning car, lithe and hunched over its wheels. That current thing is a disgrace, no doubt the work of renowned* stylist* Ian Callum.

They started to go wrong in 1993.

You mean the styling?

My old boss has a S1 XJ6 and I don't think it ever did more than 10 miles between FTP's ...

Yeah the styling, the X300 wasn't as nice as the XJ40 & it got worse from there.

I think most of these models weren't replaced with good reason.

Either disastrous sales or the market changing.

Nobody seems to be trying new things at the moment, just more and more slightly different SUVs of varying ugliness and lookalike PCP hatchbacks.

Only the electric cars seen to have any innovation.

1986 and the XJ40. It wasn't a bad car but the styling was a disaster after the Series III. The X300 was a return to form though, almost.

Nah I liked the XJ40 once they got rid of the awful digital dash, they feel posher somehow to drive than a X300 to me too.

Fiat Coupe (especially the bonkers 5-pot turbo one) is the one that sticks out to me from a mile off.

Either bright yellow or bright blue with black leather for mine please. Red is probably also just about acceptable. C'mon... you've got that huge slab of body colour on the dash, use it!

Suzuki SJ 410. Nothing on the market ticks the same boxes these days. Yes I know, they made a Land Rover look luxurious, but find me something else that's that capable and versatile for the same price. Only the Lada Niva is worth mentioning in the same breath to me.

Is the Jimny not almost there? Even the new one looks pretty rugged.

How about a whole breed? With a couple of recent Korean exceptions, it seems the luxobarge is dead. A victim of badge snobbery. I for one mourn their passing.

Whatever will pub landlords smoke about in in future FFS?

Jaaaaags, of course!

A Senator with a boot full of Scampi Fries from the cash and carry didn't quite cut it in the same way as an XJ40 would.

Granadas? Pffftt!

Proper pub landlords drive Jags.

The Anglia (a little longer out of production than stated), such a quirky looking, little beautiful thing, I could only imagine the abortion they would make now

The original 1968 Escort (if you discount the 50s 100E estate) was a rebodied development of the Anglebox, admittedly a very thorough one!

9. Fiat Marea: Fiat are more revered for their small cars. Perhaps never properly replaced as saloons have fallen out of favour in the UK. The 'Weekend' estate lives on as the new Tipo wagon.

When was the last time anyone actually even saw a Fiat Marea?

Whilst they were never a sales success compared to its competition, they seem to have a much higher death rate than the average car of the time.

I guess a combination of rust on the floorpan and the timing belt job on the 20v petrol (wrongly quoted as an engine out job) saw the death of many. A quick look at how many left shows only around 1% of them are left which is pretty astonishing for a car that was still being sold in dealerships in 2003. (nearly 23,000 at their peak, now 293)

Another in the list of cars i very nearly owned, didn't and regretted it. Stupidly said no a few years back to a 550 quid 20v saloon in HLX spec years back with a full years MOT.

Been something i've been half keeping an eye on as a potential future car for the best part of a year, bar one vastly overpriced 1.6 Weekend model that seems to have been up for sale for the entire year and still not shifted, there hasn't been any come up for sale.

In my experience Fiat have always been awful for parts suppply, and not just obsolete models either.

Fiat themselves are, well, their dealers, my local ones stock response is "needs to be shipped from Italy, mate", no matter how simple or common across the range the bit is. Quite often you'll find it's easier to get Fiat parts at the local Vauxhall dealer than it is the Fiat one....and that includes the bits that were never used on GM cars, such as FIRE head gaskets.

However there are a ton of aftermarket parts suppliers and specialists that can have pretty much and Fiat part to your door in 24-48 hours.
