vulgalour
It will be interesting to learn if PVA is up to the task. That fabric is appalling, I'm disappointed I don't have a shirt made of it. Nice job. spartacus, cort1977, catsinthewelder and 3 others
155V6
Brilliant, good to see an early R3 still around. This thread also reminds me of going with my Dad to collect various old cars (mainly Renaults) in the 70's & 80's,no mobiles back then,so each trip seemed like an adventure catsinthewelder

Skut
Love it and the headliner. Need to do something similar in the ZR as the headling is rank. Original owner must have been safety conscious to spec the optional passenger airbag. I'm pretty sure it was an option until almost the end of R3 production. catsinthewelder
Thanks guys, wasn't sure if it would be a bit too Retro Rides for this place. I've been putting off sorting the headliner in the 405 for ages. The man maths was that this one couldn't be much worse and could fairly easily be replaced if I made a pigs ear of it. If the PVA holds out then I'll do the 405 though I think something a little more subtle would be better there. Its been a really nice day here, this went far better than I expected. The kids have been fairly nice and Hairnet, DW and Rachel have called round for a cuppa and natter. Original owner must have been safety conscious to spec the optional passenger airbag. I'm pretty sure it was an option until almost the end of R3 production. My early turquise 214Si had a passenger air bag and wind up windows, it was originally registered to Enterprise (or another rental agency) so I doubt the options were ticked. My ex Wuvum 25 GSI registered about 2 weeks before Rover went bump had aircon, leather, all round electric windows but no passenger air bag, although by that point Rover had got suitably embarrassed by the cubby hole that replaced the air bag on the prefacelift dash that it had an airbag shaped blanking panel... I wonder if the air back stopped being standardish on the transfer from 200 to 25? Skut

D Spares & Tyres
I have a Rover with saggy headlining. I'm going to try out self adhesive carpet. It's very thin and apparently sticks well. I've seen it done on an XJ40 and it looks ok. Tam
spartacus
I've used that kind of carpet for stuff on my camper, it came with the world's stickiest spray glue and is ace, it would stick to a rigid headliner no probs.Soz for the thread highjack CITW. catsinthewelder
No worries, I'm intrigued about Tom's Rover though. I'm going to try and change the oil and coolant this week. Oil can happen here but coolant will need to come out at work as they have a hose and no cats.

Lord Sterling
Nice! Never realised you bought a Rover 214. Looks lovely. Might have a spare wheel trim somewhere and a bookpack for these if I can find it. catsinthewelder
spartacus
It's a shame about that wheel trim, it was there when I sold the car to my neighbour but she's definitely of the 'a car is a tool and nothing else' camp, so won't have cared, or possibly even noticed, when it went missing. oldcars

catsinthewelder
I finally got around to buying a wheeltrim for this last weekend. The new owner fitted it while I changed the coolant today. I suppose the best time to find mayo is when you've already sold the car. I offered him a refund but he wouldn't take it, I'm sure it will be fine. The Moog
D Spares & Tyres
It's only mayo on the underside of the filler cap that is an issue. Baby wipes will shift the stuff on the seats
