In all seriousness, deep fried Mars bar, done well is bloody good.  The whole sweet & salty thing going on, and the trick really is to have the oil wicked hot and barely let it see it, so the insides haven't had time to melt.  

Probably takes a year or two off your projected lifespan every time you eat one, mind you!

It's better not to disturb old wiring unless you have to, it tends to trigger a chain reaction of failures and repairs,  and imo the Lucas glass fuses will cope better in damp conditions than the modern blade things.  So if it ain't actually broke don't fix it, you will be making work for yourself.  It isn't necessary to have each circuit individually fused (even on a modern), but you could perhaps use the 4 way Lucas fusebox which would be quite easy to fit, looks right,  and gives you  scope for additional circuits.

It's worth learning the Lucas colour codes which are mostly quite logical.   When I wire cars from scratch I usually use the basic Lucas colours, but don't bother with the tracer colours, and this is easy enough to follow.

speaking of electrical stuff or related to it, off hand would anyone happen to know what thread the battery clamps use? just figured i'd ask so I can preemptively order the nuts and washers if anyone does know  if not ill be sure to grab some shots of one with my callipers and hope it can be figured out that way (and then see about picking up a set of thread gauges for future use! although even then Ill still have to be on my toes, because the Model 70 seems to use every thread type and gauge!)

I would guess they are 5/16 UNF, but if you can measure the OD with calipers and post a closeup of the thread I can possibly confirm, and may well have them in stock.

Given the height of a lot of modern cars, never mind SUVs, wouldn't they just over ride the chassis and their engine would end up where the driver was, especially if the driver was sitting low to the ground?

top marks from Tayna and DPD, new battery arrived at 9:05AM  having been ordered at 12:14AM yesterday! (I mean I did pay a couple quid extra to have it delivered today, but even so you never know this day and age!)

I have currently got it on charge to get it fully topped up, give it the best fighting chance it can have! currently last I checked a few minutes ago, its drawing 1.91A at 14.4V

what caught me out is, its surprisingly light and small, I mean it is an 037 battery indeed, but I genuinely thought before I unboxed I had been sent the wrong one at first, REV's existing one must just look much heavier and bigger then it actually is! 

I mean its still a lead acid battery its not featherweight, but having had a days rest yesterday of doing sweet fuck all  I might go for broke and see if I can get it fitted at some point today myself, I would like that since today is the 1st of the month, and that is when I do normally order something nice for myself from outside food-wise, because theres a special upload from one of the youtubers im subscribed to that happens every 1st of the month, and I think it would be quite fun to get that in REV  (and more milage accumulation/familiarisation is good, any-excuse-to-go-for-a-drive etc  )

so! I actually managed to get the battery changed! in true Autoshite fashion the parts I thought that would be hard where reletively easy and the parts that I thought would be easy, where difficult LOL, but she now has a fresh battery  tho I have not actually gone anywhere today since after this my everything was in quite a lot of pain, so after sitting and relaxing in REV for a bit I came upstairs after buttoning everything up but I am very pleased with myself that i did managed to do this, its reassurance to myself that I can tackle a relatively involved on my own if the situation demands it  

 

in perticular the battery clamps turned out to be a twat of a job to get out, since I did not have enough clearance under REV to swing my mallet, so I had to go back upstairs and get my trolly jack and axle stands and get that front corner up in the air so I could twat the clamps with my hammer

but after plenty of hammering and some light screwdriver abuse, I got the clamps out and old battery out  

and the new one fitted with more hammering action to get the clamps home, safe to say they wont be going anywhere in a hurry!

and then as is said, Let there be light!

for @Mr Pastry or anyone such interested here is the details on the thread of the battery clamp  I admit it was a bit tricky trying to get the thread diameter, I had readings around the 7.53mm mark also

and so again although I did not go anywhere today, I quite pleased with the outcome,  although its certainly not a job I wish to repeat in a hurry without assistance!

Now, when you get bored at 3.45am later, have you checked there's no parasitic draw? I doubt there could be but you want it stone cold dead when not in use. 

Also, now you've scoped the wiring a bit, is there room for a hidden unless you know where it is kill switch? Bit of extra security. 

My green zx 1.9td had one! The previous owner lived in Tunbridge Wells and worked Mon-Fri in London. Monday morning the zx would be dumped on a street and he'd flick a switch hidden under the dash that killed the glow plug power. Friday evening it got flicked back on and down south he drove for 10 years before I bought it at 270ish k 😂

I rarely used it tbh bar to prank Amy the rare times she drove it. The deep rich cloud of unburnt fuel and shite that came out after several minutes of cranking before out of mechanical sympathy I gave the game up and flicked it back on was always amazing

It's certainly a 5/16" bolt.  It looks like UNF to me - to be sure you would have to count the number of threads in a given length.  5/16 UNF would be 24 threads per inch, and BSF would be 22, so they don't look very different unless you see them side by side.   Happy to send a few nuts over for you to try.
