indeed sadly thats always the case, my favourite ones are the ones saying that they should give these out instead of motability vehicles, to "stop people from claiming"

something tells me they dont realise that, motability vehicles are something you very much have to pay for! and that if a claimant wants a fancy BMW or something then you very much have to pay for the difference up front with their own cash

where as Invacars where given out entirely for free, on cost to the tax payer, complete with fuel allowance!

but very cool to see VJN out and about and papped :)

hah, I like how it takes Zel about 3 years to properly get papped, but you get papped in about 5 minutes :)

Neat! theres someone there clearly aware of this thread, so for whoever it is, heres a montage of Invalid vehicles on Wagons I did a while back which hopefully will help with their research :)

Certainly there where many a 3 wheelers transported on carfit's! the Ministry's main method for transport invalid vehicles was by rail, so it was a common sight to see them transported by rail :) I dont know exactly how they where loaded however!

its not everyday I come across an invalid vehicle and go "I have no fucking clue what that is!"

but here we are LOL spotted this on eBay, an "ELECTRACTION" apparently

It's not an IC, it's the Electraction EVR-1 prototype. I had a couple of brochures for it for sale but they must have sold - here's another one
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203918687446

Interesting!

its certainly being sold as one in this brochure! (although depending on how much it weighed legally it aint one, certainly its not an invalid carriage, its an invalid vehicle at best LOL)

heres the text a bit more zoomed incase the forum softwares annoying image shrinking is making it hard to read :)

image.thumb.png.4d1aa5608d7257b0d05a36110ee33a36.png

although im getting the impression that its sort of a "We have this thing, now lets try and find a way to market it"

much like the Elswick Envoy (or when the hovercraft was first invented) rather than something actually designed as a disabled persons vehicle from the ground up like the Invacar was

I know, its always the same, car groups do tend to have a fair degree of ignorance in them & these always bring them out of the woodwork without fail..  I could go into a very sweary rant, but we`re civilised people, so I wont 😉

Someone was moaning about the pavement parking on the thread, & it caused them to go into a rant about "rights" 😆

I wasn't even parked on the pavement, it's the assistant managers parking spot at work lol

got a bit board, got one of REV's old rear lights working again :)

(by some "genius" design they earth the entire light through the indicator lamp sockets springy contact platform, dont know why they could not of just directly earthed on the metal body of the light, which is earthed anyway as the indicator lamp is a single contact item)

IMG_1013.thumb.JPG.e67e484b61d7ecef407cd97a2946096a.JPG

in a very me sort of thing, the first "indicator" bulb I could lay my hands on was this oddball US General Electric one, thats 12W not 21W, I presume for some sort of federally mandated side light/side marker/orange marker thing that most US cars have, im sure @PhilA will know exactly what application its intended for :)

IMG_1006.thumb.JPG.c805f4c2ab39162ccca7d7efddccdc2a.JPG

I got it in 2004 from a family friend who sent us a gift package from the states :)

IMG_1011.thumb.JPG.0e4c32df466c158af7d16e69544aee34.JPG

the other bulb is just some generic item I had kicking around, with a saggy 5W filament LOL, (annoyingly I could not find where I placed the goody bag of soviet car bulbs Zel gave to me from the Lada)

12W is 70's "Safety light", the orange retrofit lights on the front that were a fad for a while.

Phil

Nifty! I figured thats what it was for :)

those lights used to confuse the heck out of me when I was young, they looked like indicators but they where always on, and I could never figure out what (or why) they where for...

(I remember especially, stumbling across one of those "super nanny" type shows, and the car used by the show was a Federalised TXII Black cab, and it looked weird with its constantly on "indicators")

Yeah, they're the ancestral heritage to today's DRL's.

Personally I think the always-on indicator system isn't bad; it was an option in the settings on my Challenger.

Less glaring than bright white.

I'd beg to differ, it looks terrible on all the boy racers' Golf Rs and similar finance-wagons.

They have DRLs for a reason, so why bother having the indicators on full-time?

I've seen it being done on the Mk1 Fabia. I'm not a fan, personally.

yeah, I dont like the fact its orange, because to me orange=indicator and I could see it being confusing in that regard

but I agree on the less glaring then bright white

in-fact thats one of my big annoyances with modern LED head lamps etc, is that they always go for 4000K+ colour temperatures, which is really quite glaring

when really for this sort of stuff, I feel like a warmer colour temperature  should be mandatory

*mumbles something about selective yellow and the french*

Roy Haynes was the interesting bloke behind ElecTraction, He designed a range of motors including the Cortina Mk2.

Whilst ElecTraction closed its doors after only a few years, he did manage to build and sell a few of the ElecTraction Rickshaws. There was one for sale on Facebook Marketplace only last year, condition was rather rough however.

Orange sidelights (and yellow fogs) are a JDM thing, also. Seen here as original equipment on my Toyota.

LBF, what amuses me about the federal stuff is when they see a car with side repeaters, they don't have a descriptive term for them. You would think common sense would tell you what they were.

You can just say see my 'Toblerone' side repeaters not illuminated, as the Japanese actually understand lighting a car safely. 😂

Neat its like a combination of all the different standards :)

as a fun side note theres a rainbow "zebra" crossing like that just down the road from here

so I could replicate that shot with REV almost! (well if I did not mind blocking up a major road and intersection LOL)

My front indicators are white, my rear indicators are red.

Enjoy

well the little chieftain guy is technically orange

for maximum confusion points you could install those blue dot thingies that where a thing back in the 1930's or (IIRC the train of thought being that the hint of blue would catch your eye better in the sea of red)

curious it seems REV had 2 different head lamps fitted, one of which although fitted later in her life, I think is older then REV is herself! as its not marked with any type approvals that I would expect from a late 1970's item and the Lucas label on the side is older looking

her other more rusty and cracked head lamp  has those approval marks as well a sticker that im guessing is 42nd week 1976 with a newer looking lucas label

IMG_1014.thumb.JPG.2fe2e11d9b7c2bbeab221902c03e0dc0.JPG

it also had an original Thorn head lamp bulb, who's date code is hard to read but I think is 33, which would be September 1976

IMG_1015.thumb.JPG.f85c56f0448a1b87d6117e6917c6f42b.JPG

so thats very interesting to see! and it was nice to have at least 1 of REV's likely factory bulbs still :)

(amusingly in the parts stash was a few other head lamps, including a sealed beam, and im wondering where that came from! as no invalid vehicle used sealed beams! perhaps its just from the previous regular car the previous owner had and it just got swept into all the Invacar parts LOL)
