A new v5 in you name will have a new new number. But you should have been able to Declar it sorn with the 11 digit number on your new keeper slip from the last owner’s v5.

interesting, because I was able to view tax rates just now using the 11 digit number from the 2012 V5 #dvlafun

also for whats its worth the number on the new keeper slip is 12 digits long, well it's the main 11 digit number with an extra digit on the front (it caught me out at first as I thought it was the same 11 digit number on the the V5 but was wondering why I couldn't finish typing it into the view tax rates box!)

here we go sort of!, I was checking the details of my survivors list and remembered I have a picture of the rear of WHK372L

WHK372L has pinched mould lines like later Invacar Model 70's which would tell me that early Invacar Model 70's also featured pinched mould lines

but I know WHK372L has a chassis from another Model 70 so Im not sure how much I can trust it, if she has a different chassis, if it was not just a case of plates being swapped round, then WHK372L would of been taken apart at some point, and that throws a wild card into the mix, because who knows where her rear body work is from if thats the case)

My DAF 66 was WHK573L.

As you were.

so this is interesting little thing I noticed today

when I was at the gathering on saturday me and Zel talked about how my Model 70 has a larger air filter/air intake assembly where as TPA has a smaller one

heres TPAs engine bay

Image from iOS (19).jpg

and heres REV's engine bay

image.thumb.png.d9c23f271a568708215603d428e5ab73.png

and I think the general consensus was the smaller one came first and the larger one was a later development to do with reducing intake noise

however I noticed that ATW722L has the larger style air filter/air intake assembly (also note like REV, ATW lacks a starter Dog where as TPA and OPH both have starter dogs)

20170618_143847_resized.thumb.jpg.0c61b21e7bc461722b5f5dd8dd110c2c.jpg

but I know that engines could easily have  be swapped around in the life of a vehicle (TWC has TPAs engine and TPA has KPLs engine for example!)

so I checked the Service manual which was made right at the start of the Model 70 production

and low and behold it too shows the large air filter/air take assembly

image.thumb.png.9a782b5672641979ffdbe06357b48f28.png

so I do wonder what the smaller one on TPA (ex KPLs) engine is about?

it would be very interesting to grab TPAs actual engine number and compare it with others I have on hand (im hoping to grab the actual engine number on the engines of REV and OPH soon as well, just a case of finding it under 40 years worth of engine oil and road dirt LOL)

(I do also know that that assembly could of been changed quite easily at some point since it just bolts onto the carb)

continuing the trying to SORN the bastard saga

I noticed that the DVLA checker was now rejecting the 11 digit number on the old V5 I used to "check tax rates"

so I thought ah the rest of the system has updated, lets try using the V5/2 Number now then to SORN it

where appon I got this

image.thumb.png.de817fbc3d60c69e15716b6db8afc38f.png

so yeah Ill just hope the new V5 shows up before the DVLA have a chance to bitch at me for having an untaxed vehicle, and SORN it with the new 11 digit number on that V5

its just amusing how broken the DVLA system is LOL

I couldn't SORN it with the V5/2 before, because the DVLA said no owner change has been recorded, then when the Owner change had finally been recorded, I cant SORN it with the V5/2 because thats no longer valid and a new number has been issued, its a catch 22 situation LOL

^ Phone them!

seeing as the date of last V5 issued has been updated im going to wait a few more days before calling them as it sounds like the V5 is now in my name and ill just have to sorn it using the new 11 digit number whatever it is on the new V5

if I dont see anything show up on my end within a week then ill give them a ring

(especially if I get nasty letters of needing to tax the thing)

also for @Jon it looks like all invalid vehicles in NZ where privately bought examples, but that NZ did get quite a few Tippen deltas etc

also the hard top tippen delta from that 40 year old BW photo actually survived :) im still not sure why all the Invalid cars in NZ are red tho! (iv had this picture saved for a while, I only noticed when talking to stuart that its the same one as the BW photo :) )

tippen-delta-red.thumb.jpeg.33a418b14b38feceb1d17d0a0b394712.jpeg

stuart didn't have a proper picture of the Red Harper Mk6 so he was happy to get the 2 pictures you posted :) and he was also happy to find out the Chassis no details of the other Red Tippen Delta and of the Red haprer

we are also wondering if the reg 22-189 means anything in NZ? it was on a blue Harper that sold a few years ago over there, sadly does not show up on that Car jam website

Glad to be of service with the Harper pics, though I'm wondering if the Harper and the Tippen are both red due to them being owned by the same person, some time back? I've no idea if that's the case or not, it's just pure speculation. But I do note that the red on both of them looks very much like a repaint (rather like an overly shiny, 1990's 2 pack spray paint job), so their shade of paint is probably, er... a red herring.

Also, the number plate you mention on the blue Tippen is a pre-'64 registration plate that was made obsolete over 50 years ago - more details on NZ plates, here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_New_Zealand

Funnily enough, I searched for the image of the red Tippen, found the forum source and the next image below showed one of the obsolete NZ plates, as per the blue Tippen:

img_4450-jpg.2758981

Having not seen the image of the blue Tippen, I'm guessing the plate look similar?

Also, great news that you've got an Invacar!! I think I was also in the camp that felt it may not have been the best idea as a first car but I'm glad you stayed true to your vision and I'll very willingly eat my metaphorical hat now. Good luck with the driving lessons!

interesting info regarding the plates :) and yeah I find it interesting that 2 separate Tippen Deltas and 1 harper where/are all painted red, I do wonder if one of the reasons is because the owner of the Tippen Delta Mk5 saw the red Mk8 with the hard top and decided to paint his one that colour as well? (and his Harper if he also owned that one)

does the place you found the pictures of the Red Harper give any info as to its current whereabouts?

and thanks :) as is clearly evident by now im a perseverant bastard when I set my mind/heart to something :) (especially as at times it has been very much a "Rage, rage against the dying of the light" thing)

and I will admit it does feel good that I manage to get one despite what the naysayers where saying :)

(also no registration number it looks like... technically it does have to be road registered whether a modern police man would know that or not is another question entirely!)

I wonder if any shitter knows which museum this one is in? I think its somewhere in Germany :)

its interesting to note that it has the Short style VIN plate but lacks a rollover bar

sadly I dont actually know when Invacar introduced the short plate (as my VIN plate picture collection for Invacar Model 70's goes from TWC straight to REV I sadly dont have anything in between those 2)

but on that note thanks to some pictures @OliD-E sent me of KPL I was able to determine that it looks like the Rollover bar was added to AC Model 70's at least starting with with the D block chassis, MPD477P and later the first MPD-P cars being registered March 1976 so if we assume the changes happened to Invacar Model 70's at the same time, then we can tell that the above Invacar Model 70 is from Before March 1976 since it lacks a rollover bar but after June 1972 at least since it has the smaller VIN plate :)

the last AC Model 70 to NOT feature the rolloverbar was the L Block chassis, the L block chassis rather fittingly ending with Reg block LPL-P, LPL870P

heres a Model 70 from the end of the L Chassis block and although hard to make out im pretty sure does not have a rollover bar

AC-Model-70-Invalid-Car-1976.jpg

and heres a Model 70 from the start of the D chassis block with a rollover bar (MPD553P is currently wearing the private plate VAV1L)

8035915164_3ab36b0397_o.thumb.jpg.9883a6b6700af3633a411d6d548dfa84.jpg

I suspect that this is when they added the headliner and larger speedo as well, as LPL837P has the smaller speedo

A9C0F6.jpg

where as MPD553P has the larger one (thank you @Supernaut for posting this picture I KNEW I had seen some inside shots of MPD553P somewhere, took me like half an hour to find them buried in TWCs thread but I did find them in the end LOL)

IMG_5060.JPG

its pretty cool to have finally figured out when exactly they added the rollover bar and other changes as its something I have been wondering about but had not quite pinned down when until now :)

also worth noting MPD553P has the warning lights arranged like the ones in REV and unlike the ones in LPL/TWC/TPA

DPZqeY4WAAAb31W.jpg

it seems like along with all the other changes they also arranged the warning lights to be a bit more sensible

(on REV, green is the indicator tell tail, not the oil pressure warning light, @Zelandeth noticed that at the FoD and its cool to see its just not a 1 off thing with REV, but something they did change in production it seems)

I must say that I do love REVs clock! I do like an analogue clock in a car, and REVs fits in the dash so perfectly it looks standard.

yeah I agree it fits in with the rest of the instrumentation/general look of things very well :) I have no plans to remove the clock (least the big hole in the dash it would leave behind!)

(esp as REV being a later model 70 has dials with black plastic bezels which the clock fits in better with then compared to the earlier cars chrome bezels)

ahh the fun game of figuring just exactly how many parts bins did the Model 70 raid

Mr Webb was supposedly the one who fitted the clock, and he got REV in 1985 so that should give you some idea as to when it was fitted and maybe where the clock was from :)

I say ford but reading @dollywobbler post on it I dont see any mention of ford even tho I swear someone mentioned it being like ford valour at some point LOL

https://autoshite.com/topic/29975-dollywobblers-invacar-actual-breakdown/page/87/?tab=comments#comment-1502618

since learning a lot more about the Model 70 since DW did that,

its clear that the headliner he bought was meant to replace an existing one on a post March 1976 car and being for a later Model 70 explains why dollywobbler had to trim a section for it to clear his heater controls, as by the time the headliner was introduced on the Model 70 the heater/choke control box had moved to the floor

It was the Kleinwagenmuseum in the German village of Störy, near Hildesheim. It closed in 2004 and the cars were dispersed. The photo you have shown is from the set taken by this chap, Jonee, at the last microcar gathering held there in 2002:

Some of the exhibits are on show at the PS-Speicher museum in nearby Einbeck:

Oh wow very cool finds the PS-Speicher museum has KPA185K I had thought all the Model 70 based City cars had been lost to the US (also @Ghosty I think it was you who mentioned seeing a KPA Invacar right? it was probably KPA185K :) )

one of those needs repatriating to the UK, and then going over with a fine tooth comb :) (sadly KPA185K does not show up on the DVLA checker but the other 2 known prototypes OPK110L VPA167M do show up)

theres sadly very little known about them, other then they are Steyr puch powered and are believed to at least use the rear half of a Model 70's chassis with the same CVT setup

I wonder if the PS museum also has the Model 70 pictured above?

for those not caught up on the city cars read this post :) https://autoshite.com/topic/32723-invacar-model-70-acquired-and-general-ramble-thread-index-on-page-1-multi-person-multi-day-multi-invacar-multi-collection-caper/?do=findComment&comment=1753553

indeed I did :)

Awesome photo there of Dolly and REV, happy to see their both still safe and sound :)

speaking of REV the V5 in my name arrived today! so I have SORNed REV using the new 11 digit number :)

image.thumb.png.a9ebab9aed08dd69743e0a6874cdc2ee.png

indeed for special notes on the V5 it just says "No of Former keepers 3" and thats it, no last keeper details sadly (but I have all 3 former keeper details from the previous V5s etc in my history file  )

but yeah im officially the registered keeper of REV451R now :D

  • LightBulbFun changed the title to Invacar Model 70 Acquired! and general ramble thread, index on page 1, Got the V5c Officially the registered keeper of REV451R now :)

@OliD-E sent me this photo, and I have been trying to figure out just what exactly happened LOL because the Ford escort has a great big dent on the front side, but the Model 70 crashed into the rear, and then theres the ladder going to one of the houses...

image.thumb.png.33280f7490393e1ff68cc36022e979e6.png

ford has been untaxed since 1988 so I wonder if thats when the incident happened or if the ford was repaired and used for a while longer (im inclined to say 1988 was when the crash happened as the ford  looks pretty crumpled to me so I dont see it being used afterwards but im not an expert when it comes to crash damage!)

Model 70 looks relatively intact all things considered tho especially if it did crash into the front side of the ford! :)

Well done with the V5 and an interesting b/w pic. As someone who lived through those times the pic looks to me like it was taken late 70s / early 80s judging by the clothes and hairstyles. As the Escort has a deep crease quite high up above the front wheel I guess it was hit by something else, not the Invacar which has a lower bumper.

The chap up the ladder in the background is wearing overalls and looks irrelevant to what's happening around him.

heres a picture of the info section of the V5

posting it because I know if someone else got their Invacar V5 in id want to see theirs

image.thumb.png.28c4f1fccf85d459408c906aa57d5255.png

its rather amusing just how many of the fields are blank :)

(also interesting to see how they updated the V5, im pretty sure until recently all the info was in 1 big line rather then 2 smaller lines as it is here)
