Thinking about it, the Model 70 makes an excellent case study of just how messed up, inconsistent and inaccurate the DVLA database really is. They should all be exactly the same: blue, 493cc, petrol, made by either AC or Invacar. As we can see though there is a myriad of variations, many of which are very obviously wrong!

lets have a close up of the money shot :) thats right its a Model 70 chassis on the production line!, really excited to see this as i have wondered what a Model 70 looked like without any body work, also one for @Zelandeth since I know he asked me a while back if I had any such pictures, well I do now :)

image.thumb.png.53af6dccf23a65717d7dd92ac1161dea.png

for those wondering I think the above chassis is GPB497N :)

and heres a few more DVLA results I have on the laptop to laugh at

to figure out the legality of things you need a

when I saw the bare chassis picture

an AC (ELECTRIC).... in a block of invacars, I have come across a few like this where in a block of ACs will be an "INVACAR" or in a block of Invacars will be an "AC (ELECTRIC)" I do wonder how that happens exactly cuz i cant see that being an OCR fail LOL

screencapture-vehicleenquiry-service-gov-uk-ViewVehicle-2019-06-01-23_24_02.thumb.png.1d5d9d4df22bdec9adde137e9c28353c.png

and to cap it off WVW292S another Invacar, that comes back as a Reliant on the DVLA page, this one did survive until 2003 so I was able to grab the chassis number and it does come back as an Invacar chassis number, sadly none of the other ACs in invacar blocks or Invacars in AC blocks made it till 2001+ so i cant check and confirm what those are exactly

I got given a load of those magazines, and knew that feature was in there somewhere! I had volumes and volumes and gave the lot away in the end...

if it makes you feel better I know you have a booklet with a picture of a Prototype Model 70 in it :)

(I still need to get one of said booklet, especially as I now own a Model 70 for it to go with!)

although im not 100% sure what a private Model 70 would of come with out of the box exactly...

I found it!

On 6/8/2013 at 6:30 PM, Formula Autos said:

ROFLcopter – an almost mythical device that used to be deployed many years ago at times of extreme mirth. Its exact purpose was unclear, but it is possible that the combination of the downdraught from its rotor blades, and the fumes from its poorly maintained powerplant may have sent those in the vicinity into a sort-of laughing gas like stupor, thus prolonging the aforementioned mirth. Not seen for years, it is rumoured that the ROFLcopter was KV6 powered and thus has suffered an inevitable double HGF (see also). Unfounded rumours abound that it may be stashed in Sam Glover’s hangar, behind a DAF.

I found* the ROFLCopter on the DVLA!

(I have started searching for the block that came after VPG-S, seeing as the VPG-S block VPG243S to VPG269S was only 27 cars big im going up in jumps of 25 so its a long slog, I have just finished the VPH-S series and have not found anything so onto VPJ-S next...)

I wonder what on earth that thing actually was. The 'non-standard' wheelplan is weird, as is the 'petrol/gas' fuel suggesting it had an LPG/CNG conversion, but presumably not a 100-litre engine. The name 'Rofsupplier' doesn't give any results and Google helpfully* thought I was looking for a roof supplier.

Yeah I wonder the same LOL, the MOT checker does not say anything else about the vehicle, but instead of "PETROL/GAS" it says "LPG" (sadly I cant pull its VIN number with my tool I did try LOL)

its not the first weird thing I have come across either, I cant recall the reg exactly, but while looking for an invacar block, I came across a "Y9" with a 260ish? cc engine of some kind, diesel! no idea what the hell that was either

I also came across a Lomax 223 2CV based kit car, and a VW beetle based dune buggy of all things! :) (OPL340L on that one)

Just remembered I can pull the body type and it comes back as a "scooter combination" whatever that means!

All the more reason for a well organised company like Lockheed Martin to be running it.

prompted by the above posts about "AC (ELECTRIC)" I figured I should post a montage of sorts of all the whacky DVLA results I have turned up in the 1000+ Model 70's I have looked up at this point LOL

Screenshot 2019-03-28 at 17.36.21.png

Seen plenty of dates of first registration a good few years after they where made, but this one was registered before K suffix was even a thing according to the DVLA LOL

late registration and engine size fun, a lot of these early Model 70's have all sorts of nonsense for engine capacity from 250cc to 993cc

I do wonder if this one however really was 650cc, as its the only Model 70 I have seen actually come back as 650cc, so I wonder if someone did it on purpose?

anyways I think thats most LOL I may have a couple more on the laptop, but otherwise yea

it seems like the DVLAs OCR really struggled with "INVACAR" LOL

I also have a few more, but there just ones that have odd engine sizes or dates of first registrations like 1980 despite being made in 1972 or such

INVACAN, INVAZAR and INVACARTRICYCLE493 particularly made me chuckle. Amusing reading!

Northern ireland and Privately owned?

@Datsuncog we got us a double whammy!

how many details do you have of this Invacar? im very much all ears!

its not GIG4834 is it? its the only northern ireland invalid vehicle I know of that I think is in private preservation of some kind, (tho it looks like LVX293J might live over there im not sure. last owner change was in 2010, and its worn a bunch of NI Regs in the past)

(then theres WOI654 in the museum, and SOI7570 with that company that I need to poke for details at some point)

but GIG is not a private Model 70, it has a DHSS Chassis number

So much knee capping  in the 70's  there must be loads of  invalid carriages in NI  !!

as in 1970s or Model 70's? sorry I dont quite follow!

as for how many Invalid vehicles NI had, for DHSS ones at least it was reported in 1981 that there where about 200 floating around :)

so much less than what we had in England at the time

Knee capping was how the terrorist groups on both side delt with those who they 'didn't' like but didn't want dead.

Basically involved blowing your knee caps out with a gun as a warning to others.

heres a couple period and one not so period picture! robbed from facebook :) I had seen the PPK596L one before but noticed I had neglected to save it to my invacar images folder, so was happy to redescover it and save it so, the other 2 pictures are new to me :) (the Orange Model 70 I think is the same one as the Red "Cat" one SGX44 that is now in Germany back in blue but with a white roof, I did notice it was missing its roof gasket, now I know why!)

I wonder where this is? looks like a still off a VHS tape almost, or a early digital camera photo, I do wonder if these Model 70's are still there? it does not look like a scrap yard, just looks like they where dumped somewhere, like the field cars

(I actually have to check the pictures of the field cars, because body damage on the one on the far right looks awfully familiar...)

and a Forlorn Mk12, this photo is more recent I think (From a 2011 FB post) so I wonder if its still there, just notice there's a wheel chair folded up inside still!

perhaps you might be able to make contact with the poster and see if its still around? :)
