Greetings all!

Long time lurker, having only recently got my shiny bit of plastic that says I'm allowed to drive around unsupervised. My first motorised money pit is, unsurprisingly, a 2007 Kia Picanto GS that I managed to wangle from my dad. Well, it was either that or the 2006 *stra that he has, which is currently running on three cylinders... I come from good stock honestly!

Cheers,

Jon

Greetings all,

"New Old Stock" member here.... I originally joined in about 2013 but haven't been on since about 2014 - that profile appears to have been lost to the march of progress, so I am instead appearing as a reincarnation. Also been on the Facebook group since forever but I'm told that is almost a separate entity these days!

I'm good friends IRL with horriblemercedes, and came with him to Shitefest this year where I met a few of you.  I also know a couple of the old members from other past fora (is Albert Ross still around?).
A scientist by day and tinkerer at weekends, I'm originally from the rural fields of Cheshire but currently living in a part of Liverpool that's usually on fire...

I have (and have had) a varied list of shite over the years:

Current:
1982 Land Rover Series 3 88" CSW - The Red Shed
1957 Bedford RL Green Goddess - The Khaki Horror (supposedly one day going to be a camper once I can actually make it run first)
1998 Vauxhall Omega CDX - The Exceedingly Silly Trackday Car (previously co-owned with horriblemercedes who now has a much more sensible actual racing car)
1990 Westland Sea King HAS.6 (cockpit section) - My Big Chopper
19?? Rolls Royce/Rover Meteor V12 - Project Thunder

Previous:
2000 Land Rover Discovery diseasel  - The one with the chassis made from recycled Quality Street tins
2004 Range Rover L322 V8 - BMW "quality" but more OMFGHGF and electrical dramas than anything designed by AustinRover....
2006 Jeep Commander Hemi - Best car I've ever owned, as long as you didn't have to look at the outside of it 🤢
1910 (2005) 1/4 Scale Marshall 7NHP Traction Engine - Cos the real thing was a bit too impractical, even for me!

Thanks everyone! :)

I had tried to include some pics in my post but it seems I chose the wrong method of hosting  (I've uploaded them this time but can't figure out how people are inserting them into the text?), so hopefully this attempt will work!

Picture one is the current fleet, picture two is the ghosts of autoshite past

Hi All,

Joined a while ago but never post much on forums, much more a lurker.  Extensive history of shite including Jeep GC's, Passats and a variety of others including the classic MX5 - owned for 2 years, driven for about 30 miles!

Due to leg injury now restricted to autos, so currently have a 2010 Combo Tour (basically a Corsa C but van shaped and Easytronic) and probably the cheapest MOT'd auto Boxster in the country.

Hey everyone, I'm Fen

Not sure what to put, other than I tend to prefer old crap cars! Currently drive a 2000 Fiat Seicento 'Mia' , which is a bit modern for my tastes, but feels older than it is. Had quite a few Fiats in the past, but into anything really. I've been into cars since I was a little girl, my dad had loads of old stuff. Always fancied something like a Rover P6 or Triumph 2000 - maybe one day.

I'm mainly here to see the for sale ads, as I'm always on the lookout for my next car! 😊

(Understand I have to earn my way into that section though, please let me know what I need to do?)

That's a great looking Seicento, though I know photos can be misleading. The few you do still see these days are usually shagged, yours looks really tidy and I would say is perfect Autoshite fodder.

I'd like another Triumph 2000 one day too but not until the classic car market crashes again. Decent ones are around £6k which compared to a lot of stuff these days is reasonable but most of mine were under a grand. I once bought a perfectly usable mk2 in carmine red for £70. Then I sold it for £70 to a friend because I had too many cars. I know we're never going back to that but I still hope for a bit of a price crash. Can still thoroughly recommend though. Best sounding engine out there bar none. I'm not getting into an argument about that, it just is.

It's not too bad, underneath seems ok. It had paint peeling under the fuel filler door, I've covered it with some random Ford colour I had for now. It's done 78,000 miles, and was kept garaged by the older lady I bought it from.

I like it because I prefer basic model cars, just something pleasing about the simplicity. Plus it's a lovely colour ☺️

And thanks for the welcome everyone ❤️

I'd 'like' the posts but it says my reactions are limited for today, oops.

Couldn't agree more about the basic thing. I like cars I can take apart and understand. The newest of my three is 28 years old and there isn't an electric window or a central lock between them. I'm slightly worried that the ecu on the newer Favorit will just cease to work one day and I have no manual control over idle speed or mixture and stuff should it decide to. The older Favorit and the Triumph are on carburettors which I can (and have) stripped down and rebuilt.

My lords, ladies, gentlemen, and fellow autoshiters,

Introducing the honourable member from Tennessee in the United States, a British expat originally from Staffordshire (BF, EH, FA, RE, RF, VT), and a former master technician with Citroën for over twenty years. I worked on cars such as the legendary DS and SM, the CX, GS, GSA, 2CV, Dyane, Visa, AX, BX, Xantia, XM, C5 and C6.

The C6 had just been released and the DS had just celebrated its 50th birthday when I emigrated to the States in 2005.  My wife is a Tennessee native and likes to say that she is "American by birth but southern by the grace of God".

Can't argue with that. In fact, I daren't. Truth be told, I'm only interested in one car manufacturer: Citroën. For over seventy-five years the most innovative car company in the world, applying extraordinarily intelligent and advanced solutions to everyday motoring issues. Until their cars became boring and mainstream about fifteen years ago, that is.

Like many here, I'm sure, I am aghast at the uniformity and homogeneity of modern cars. But as this topic is likely to rouse the most ferocious and savage instincts among autoshiters, I will say no more, but to thank the mods who have accepted me onto the forum.

I remain your most faithful, devoted, and sincere,

Felonious.

Welcome! There's a lot of love here for Citroens, we even have an (affectionate, usually) Autoshite name for them. There's a few in the fold and others, like me, who admire their design and innovations but are scared of the complexity of many models. Hopefully you can offer words of wisdom to those in need.

Thanks stu, that's a really good question. You haven't been able to buy a new Citroen in the States since 1974. The company sold the DS and the SM through a very limited network of dealers, but sales were low (though the SM was moderately successful) so the company decided to pull out of the American market. By then Peugeot had acquired a 40% stake in Citroen, and full ownership the following year.

Part of the issue was the ongoing difference between European and US regulations regarding safety, emissions etc.

The best way to buy a new Citroen here is to import one directly from the manufacturer or a dealer in Argentina or Brazil where Citroens are sold. There's a new factory in Brazil which builds the C3, for example.

The classic Citroens have achieved something of a cult status and there's long been a Citroen Car Club of America. You mostly see them on the west coast and the east coast but with few inbetween. There are several specialist Citroen mechanics and restoration shops dotted around the country; I personally know people in Georgia and Kentucky.

One of the biggest drawbacks about moving and living here is the lack of French cars. Five years can go by without seeing one!
