Welcome along from another Mk1 MX5 import owner! Mines away getting sorted at present- hopefully no welding this year 🤞🤞

Was gonna start a build thread way back on retrorides when I picked it back in november but I forgot to take many pictures along the way, serviced it, replaced both window mechs, sorted throttle cable, but I've yet to replace and sort out my Speedo cable, it wobbles like mad, got the part ready at hand

I am Brian. Stay in Aberdeen.

Own numerous piles of rust.. minis, imps, bikes. Usual kinda stuff.

Stumbled across this site when trying to track down one of my pals(dave21476) horrified to hear what happened. Genuinely decent spud and what a hoot...

Also famously feature in a few of his storys..

Anyone else know davenumbers from his past?

Afternoon All,

Already familiar with quite a few faces on here and I'm sure I run/ran in the same circles as many others too but I thought I'd say Hello nonetheless.

Currently driving a custard yellow Nissan Cube which was purchased from Eddie Rattley (possibly of this parish?) coming up to a couple of years ago. Off the road at the moment awaiting an expensive Timing Chain repair which has been plaguing it since late last year. Will be off to pastures new in the summer as the itch to own something else has taken hold but it's been an enjoyable car to own while it was working. Car history-wise, a lot of AutoShite standard-bearers really. Started my car buying career with a Cinquecento Sporting and had everything from Skodas, Sierras, Polos, to (a brace of Eunos Roadsters), BMWs, Volvos and perhaps most AS-worthy, a Vauxhall Viceroy.

That's about it really, currently going through something of a Gallic phase taste-wise, so at the moment something from across the Channel looks like the most likely Cube replacement but your guess is as good as mine as to what will actually take its parking spot, only time will tell, but for now, enjoy some pictures of Chod past and present.

I love how old hat the naming of the Vauxhall Viceroy seems, it was probably old fashioned forty years ago. I don’t imagine car names with colonial overtones like the Sahib or the Bwana are going to be marketable these days either despite the desperate shortage of name options.

Ay up Will! Long time no see.

Is the Viceroy still with that guy you sold it to?

Hey up mate.

As far as I know it is yeah, I left FB about a year ago now so haven't been in touch with him but as of then it was still in his possession and as I sold it to him. It was back out on the road too, but I would imagine it hasn't see too much action recently with the world as it is. Hope all is good with you and your hoard.

I too left FB years ago myself. Yeah the hoard is the same hasn't been up much recently like most things.

I'm sure the chap you sold it to has a massive unit full of old rare stuff. He was trying to get a cars and coffee thing going iirc.

He has indeed, few Skodas, some old Japanese stuff, all sorts really. It's well worth dropping in to see what he has knocking about to be fair.

Hello, new to posting. Spend a lot of time browsing for sale though!

Owned a fair few things since I was 17, but here are a few of my favourites that all cost under £1.5k. 5-10 years on and I'm wishing I kept them!

I like polishing rather than repairing and have a wish list as long as my arm, although Mk1 and Mk2 Mondeos are at the top of it!

Welcome to posting! Y reg Mundaneo looks nice. ST24?

Yes, ST24. 2001 registered from memory, which is quite late I guess? Lovely car. My Dad had it after me at about 120k and did another 40k+ miles without missing a beat.

Has the forum been down for a few years?

Taken several years for a password reset to work. Been trying periodically every few months et voila appears I'm back.

There has been issues with this. From this message on the  Welcome to the new forum! Here's some tips and tricks section you will see who to contact . So far I have not heard if this issue has been resolved.

Perhaps after all the posts I should introduce myself a little.

The username is a reference to a particular car; I'm not a huge petrolhead that feels the need to change cars more than he does his underpants, quite the opposite in fact - I buy one and then keep it until it dies... and then find myself too attached to it to actually get the scrapman to take it away. Hence the current daily driver having a mileage that now says it's on its way back from the Moon and me having two car-shaped sheds on the driveway in addition.

Somehow I've made it to the age of fifty-six; professionally I'm a self-employed electronics engineer (having been made redundant nine years ago) specialising in broadcast and have an interest in ancient electronics as well.

Ah, but which version of said fine conveyance?

Welcome to the forum.

I recognise that number. The second car I owned after passing my test in 1980 was a 1975 Renault 16TL and its ‘Oval plate number’ i.e. type, was R1152.

Despite the rate at which it rusted I think it was the car I was most fond of. Later I had a 16TX, one of the last and its number was R1156. I have no idea how or why I’ve remembered these numbers for over thirty years? 🥴

Thank you for the welcome 🙂 Yep, 36 years after I sold the old girl for the 18 I still wish I had a 16; I know first cars always leave an impression but heavens above, my Dad used to pinch it and drive it instead of his fab old Zodiac - he liked it that much. This coming autumn it'll be 40 years since it was acquired and yes, I think it's still my favourite car even after three BMWs and the others.
