Have any of you ever obtained a build date certificate or letter for your cars? I am thinking of bringing in a Nova GSi (Corsa A) from Italy and it would avoid a lot of the aggro with registration/notary paperwork if I could register the car with a dating certificate with the DVLA.

 

I have e-mailed Vauxhall but had no response. Next step would be to contact the press office who used to avoid me like the plague in my freelancing days.

 

I just wondered if any of you had any contacts, r had any experience which could help.

As it isn't a vauxhall I doubt they can help?

 

But deffo worth a try to get a number in Italy to ask for its build details.

Just after I posted that I got a reply from Vauxhall (maybe they are secret shitters) with some contact details.

 

They may be able to help depending if they have the chassis details so I’ll contact the seller see if he plays ball.

 

Though, Would you send your chassis number to someone contacting you on a free ads site speaking very poor pidgeon English?

seeing the car is in Italy is it not an Opel?

Either way all were built at GMs Spanish plant.

Yes it’s an Opel built in Spain but was hoping someone at Vauxhall could put me in touch with whoever held the central records, guessing at Opel HQ in Germany.

 

None with of the relevant Vauxhall clubs are recognised by the DVLA here so a dating certificate from them wouldn’t be recognised.

 

If it was a FIAT it would be a piece of cake. Got a dating cert for the 500 in about 2 days from Turin. I will keep digging however.

Made in Spain should have been called a VIVA.

 

Even if the Vx clubs are not recognised by the DVLA, they may be able to help point you in the right direction for a contact.

Have you not got an Italian equivalent to a V5?

What you need is a CoC?

There are many listed around the web, however this one says they specialise in Italian cars. I have never used such a service so these do not come with any recommendation.

Although you may not need it the question is  will a CoC still prove the age of the car?

I’ve not bought it yet, just doing some background research before I take the plunge.

 

Buying a car in Italy is a pain in the arse, a notary does the legal transfer, paperwork etc... My plan was to leave the plates and registration documents with the seller so they can then declare scrapped or exported, trailer or transport the car back home and register here with a dating certificate.

 

A certificate of conformity just means it doesn’t need a individual vehicle inspection, which you don’t on anything older than 10 years old anyway.

 

While I’ve got you Remspoor, how easy is it to buy cars in Spain paperwork wise? Seen a couple I fancy over there p.

Almost as hard as Italy.

Fair bit of paperwork. To find out if there is a debt or fine outstanding then you still have to use a "legal" person. Hear called a Gestoría.

I have written something up about exporting a car from Spain. Still waiting for an ok from a mod. I have written as advice so just wanted to pass it by someone. I will chase and hopefully start a new thread.
