The mighty blue Marina passion wagon

That looks superb. The sort of thing Doc Faringdon finds and then churns over on eBay with loads of superfluous waffle!

Will look forward to the updates.

Joking aside, given the condition of this beast and the way the values of old estates are going, I reckon Trig would have no problem flipping this for a healthy profit once he gets bored.  Perhaps not as healthy as it would be if he had a perpetually sunny gravel driveway in Oxfordshire and world-class bullshitting skillz, but still.

I've already said that this is one seriously sexy MOFO, well saved Triggs, Marina 1.3 estates aren't the swiftest of machines, not long after I passed my test I drove my grandad's 1300L mk3 for a bit until it's MOT ran out, he used to tow a caravan with it, 3rd gear was very hit & miss, but it was looked after, and had a fair bit of welding on, and a respray, sadly though it went for scrap when the test was up, the gearbox was on it's way out, and it was worthless then, he replaced it with an E reg Ford Escort 1.3L that someone spec'd up when new, with the optional 5 speed box & factory sunroof.

Can't wait to see this in the metal, this is probably the best condition mk2 Marina out there, clearly the original owner knew he was having to store it for some time, shoving on that wax, that shows the sign of an owner who cherished it, and knowing team Trigglesworth, it will be on the road very soon. You did say you wanted a car that was more 'classic' than the Rover, and this seriously ticks that box. Well saved, plus it's got room in the back for pushchairs etc, you will just have to find a way to fit the kiddie seats for the bairns.

Wish I still had my licence, as would have loved to have a drive, Marinas have a certain noise, and it would bring back memories from my youth, as my grandad bought that Marina brand new, which replaced a DAF 66.

You have reached Autoshite hero status

Several billion points out of ten for WIN!

Drop it on Mr Sniff, Willman & Clarkson's heads more like. Marinas were once everywhere, and in the late 1990s- early 00's, mum's windowcleaner drove a very tidy T reg mk2 saloon untill he pranged it.

Yes I am officially bonkers, but I love Marinas, I even have several small ones, the Marina was the underdog against the mighty Tin Corner, but everyone loves an underdog.

Looking at it further reminds me of when I bought my 'garage find' Metro. It'd been off the road for 10 years and was on its bump stops, but a full week waxoyling and servicing it made me realise I'd found a belter with virtually no rust. The main reason why I'm unlikely to ever sell it, as I can't see me finding another like that (not for the 90 quid I paid anyway...).

I might just have a brand new, genuine Leyland front carpet for this!

Just checked. It's for an Allegro. sorry.

I'll get my coat..............

I always thought that, like Austin 1800 / Maxi doors thing.

To save money, the Allegro was designed around the Marina front carpet.

cracking effort, the internets must have melted with all the traffic this thread is creating

always had a softy sport for the Marina.

like the estate version more, + the Allegro estate looks better than the saloon to my eye.

BL didnt win at much but estate versions of dowdy family chod in the 70s were/are cool

Wow.  Seriously, wow.  Like so many others, I always liked the style of the Marina estate over the saloon/coupe versions.  Well found Trig!

Now someone - not me because my brain's getting tired - needs to pull up shots from The Professionals: the memorable episode where Cowley drove a Marina estate and Doyle a Teal Blue van!

Superb find again Trig. That is a thing of beauty - I’m still laughing about the ‘wanking my nuts flat’ comment on Facebook about this car. Can’t wait to see those Tippers plates on it. How on earth did it survive in a council lockup virtually immaculately all that time??

My dad had a Marina 1300 HL - CFP 256T - in 1992/93. He bought it from a breakers yard in exchange for his Allegro he had. We went to see my nan in Manchester and it dropped a valve coming off the M1 at the Stocksbridge turnoff and then promptly died in a lay-by on the A616. Dad managed to get it going and limp it across the Pennines at about 30mph. I still remember the enormous plume of smoke coming out of the back as he negotiated through the small towns before Manchester. He recalls it sounding like a knackered Maestro. It was repaired at my nan’s house for £250. It then blew up again about 6 months later and had the engine from a Marina Van installed, which blew up not long after. Dad was most pleased.

I'm looking forward to when Trigg orders up his aerosal of Tahiti Blue for that near side sill and gives in the bling bling ding treatment.

It's like a scab on a cut, to much to resist giving it a scratch.

I did some painting with Tahiti blue 'back in the day' it is a nice colour to work with, covers well IIRC.

This Marina 1.3 will have the Discun Braken system on it, my old Marina 1.3 had drums alround , fekkk me it was a weapon, it pulled to one side if you don't hang on the steering wheel and soon as the shoes as much as bedded in ( glazed ) it took some stoppage.

I still loved it though despite its foibles, would love to drive one again just to bring back memories

The sills are perfect believe it or not, them marks are just wax, I'm wondering if it's still got the delivery wax on it or if the owner painted it all on before parking it up? I also found a really old car cover in the boot and a load of blankets so i suspect they are the reason the cars lasted so well?

7am this morning after work I popped into B&Q to buy a new pressure washer, they do a Karcher K2 basic which was £64, £10 cheaper than everywhere else and it meant my old (and much better) lance would also fit it, this was because I was itching to wash inside the front arches.

Not the easiest to see but they are immaculate, no rust at all! I'm also thinking of binning the mudflaps off though, I like them for that BL logo but they are a bit gash looking? Sadly that was all I had time for today what with kids screaming but dad's coming over tomorrow so I plan on cracking on with some of the mechanical jobs.

Also, the cheap pressure washer impressed me, it was as good as my old K4 but cost £90 less, the better lance made a big difference though.

This really is a walk down memory lane for me and I keep getting flashbacks.

Whilst I had the saloon it was an S reg so pretty close to yours.

I hope the electrics are all good in yours - I remember having all sorts of issues with the windscreen wipers never turning off, and having to wedge the lever in between on and off to get it to stop.

The choke was held in place by a clothes peg which I yanked out when the car had warmed up.

Those semi-circular ash trays, forgotten all about them.

The chrome - more than I remember.

What yours hasn't got, thank goodness, are huge dents. Three in mine - reversing into a bollard, getting the front bumper hooked onto a metal fence and completely fucking the offside front wing, and a whopping dent when some giffer doing 2 miles an hour failed to indicate right and I overtook - our paths crossed. I was a terrible driver back then, young and naive.

I'd also driven a Beetle prior to the Marina, and whilst both were RWD, the Beetle stayed glued to the road however you chucked it around, the Marina comically understeered if driven a little too enthusiastically.

Mine was used and abused for two years with no mechanical sympathy (didn't know about this stuff then) but I still rate it as my second favourite car of my small CV.
