K11 CVT Micra

Recommended Posts

So my story to the Micra starts with a 110cc Vision which I got back in 2013, did many miles before trading it on for a PCX.

The ever reliable Honda Vision chopped in for a PCX for 125cc POWA:

Did close to 10k miles on the PCX until the following happened:

A long talk with the gf saw me in Oldham doing the theory test, then the driving test, and getting on the search for a car, and then finding a car which my old man loved, and for his decades of driving he has only loved two cars, a 1996 P Reg 1.9 XUD 306, so basic it had wind up windows and cloth!, and this Micra we had a loan car, hopefully will get a scanner and post up the photos of it on our drive back in the 90's.

A random Autotrader search showed up the Micra, a CVT 1.0 Auto L, £480, on a bomb site lot in Nelson, i went intrepid with a provisional license having only done 1 driving lesson!  hilariously in a 64 plate Micra manual which showed up the issues in my left hip even more.  The car sputtered out of it slumber with the guys assuring me it would be sorted (it was not) not deterred by the bloody huge taxi fare I paid getting there I bought it, because #Autoshite.  All tyres cracked spare fucked, running like shit and stinking of fuel, Cavcraft would be proud.  Anyways a new throttle-body unit later from the bay of many fails and rules and it was running much happier, along with some new rubber all round.  And I went and passed my driving test in September.

Since then a bit of welding for the last MOT, and drop links coming up in the next few weeks concludes this post, I've no plans to get rid, £30 for a full tank of fuel, and parts which are cheaper then the scooters I've owned does not get old.

Ouch to the crash- as a daily scooter rider I live in fear. Were you hurt?

Decent concussion and a nice amount of bruising, luckily on the day of the crash I was wearing a RST Raptor II jacket which soaked up a lot, dread to think if I was only wearing the leather jacket...

My best mate had a K11 Micra in mint green that had done over 200,000 miles in the early noughties (The last 50k of which without an oil change)

Utterly indestructible. If it wasn't for crossmember rust writing it off I'm sure it would still be going now -_-

Mine has some corrosion on the x-member, however was not brought up in the previous MOT, but I plan to sort this summer when a buddy gives me some welding classes :)

Sweet looking thing that Micra. I've got a BIG soft spot for Micras, Ma's Micra is still going strong. Hopefully soon we can retire it a bit more and breath a bit more love into it.

Bits from higher-spec models are pretty easy fit and pretty fun once you find them and find where they go.

Good luck with your Micra, I really look forward to its progress.

We made my mum get rid of her K11 facelift in 2007 and it had about 54,000 miles on the clock.

We saw it around town all the time and it finally vanished last year on the DVLA website at 160k...

My mum missed the car, until I showed her the crash test.

I am trying not to view those right now.  Probably a flipping disaster zone :D

Still gutted I missed out on a late SE+ (top spec) 1.3 K11 as my 'return to driving car', but the Streetshite just pipped it to the post. It was a lovely example, giffer runabout with only about 45000 on the clock Y124MAB - last I saw it had relocated to Chesterfield somewhere. Maybe our paths will cross again.

will have a K11 at some point, perhaps when the Streetwise becomes even more of a future classic (prices are steadily heading upwards now) . It's not as if there won't be any K11s to buy in 25 years time.

Lovely colour - red suits the K11 massively, especially the early ones.

Missed this first time round. I dunno what the Fiesta driver said after the crash and whether her subsequent behaviour re: admitting fault and sorting out insurance was honourable, but in the vid you've got a low sun right behind you, so I can believe that you might have been pretty hard to see. I'm not sure you could have done anything different mind, just saying.

On the higher resolution video I have here, you can see the Fiesta driver is facing the opposite way until moments before impact before the look of horror on her face at the approaching bike.

So replaced two CV joints, noticed today a whine when at 40mph from the gearbox I presume, still drives just fine, any recommendations to double check (fluid was done by a specialist 10kmiles ago)

Well then, rewind about a month now, was at the traffic lights, a nice Primera aside me, and a BMW 4 series over steers and comes over the central barrier hitting the Primera into my wing, sliding down the side of the Primera before impacting my rear 3/4.

I was not best amused at this, and less amused when said BMW fucked off down the wrong way of the dual carriageway and goes full bore over the central reservation sparks everywhere.. I am sure that did wonders for his suspension....

So with the chance of getting owt back from said BMW driver plus my Micra being wrote off for a scratch, I went to my trusted mechanics, and some time and much appreciated elbow grease later had her looking like this.

Knowing the 3/4 panel requires a proper bodyshop to be sorted, I set about searching for a wing, which was fun for a pre-facelift K11.  However found a chap in Accrington who had one! right colour etc, so £20 later it's in my backroom waiting to be fitted (they're a bolt on)

Will update as we go :) also got hold of a really low mileage steering rack to fix the worn one in my car, again for under £20, is the Micra worth it really? probably not, however is the smile on my old mans face when this old dollop shows up to his apartment complex worth it, oh hell yes.  It's cheap to fix cheap to run, and simple :) bargain motoring :D
