Christine
Poor old car has been neglected in the shed for too many years . Sitting around doesn't do a car any good does it ?. The reason ? I've never bonded with it , it means nothing to me , I dislike Fords , I only bought it as it was cheap, good nick, had good history ( over 9 grands worth !), one owner for its first 28 years , and i knew its value would increase .. I only drove it for about 500 miles in the first year I had it .Then the shed roof came off in high wind , and landed on the bonnet creating a big dent . It was a new panel too . I filled it , primed it , but some oil got on it and soaked in, which meant that I'd have to do it all over again and I lost interest ... I really want an HB Viva or an Imp ! Anyways ... Gigglepin has kindly booked me in for the Festival of the Unexceptional ,so I'd better get my finger out and get it on the road ! Quick peak underneath ,wheels are full of brake fluid , tyres are bolloxed , so this is to be tackled first . I've done the nearside rear brake already ,wheel cylinder ,shoes ,springs kit ... just got to do the flexi hose ..its perished new bits ! Size of those discs !! Awesome.. Tyres have had it ! Will I get 165 70 12 on a 4" wheel ?? 155 80 or 145 80 12 are the original size Engine runs sweet Spud's not fussed over Fords either..he'd like a Viva HB too michael t, Dick Longbridge, Aston Martin and 25 others

AlabamaShrimp
I think we all know how I stand on Fiestas. Yours is very nice. Good that it doesn't need any welding, unlike mine which is hiding under the filler.
anonymous user
I do not stand on Fiestas, the panels are a bit thin and I'm rather heavy. I do like Mark 1s though Like the terrier as well HillmanImp and SiC
mk2_craig
That tailgate spoiler is now worth £££. I must sell the one gathering dust in my garage. I do like your yellow Fiesta.
Dick Longbridge
Nice. My OH had a terracotta mk1 chrome bumper Fez as her first car. I like the idea of buying her another, but every time I look at mk1's and their prices, I snort, close the internet and remember how ridiculous old Ford values now are. dollywobbler
I quite like the half-arsed XR2 look of the rear spoiler. So many Fiestas had that treatment back in the day. Needs some anti-static strips, questionable wheel trims and a set of those triple-pack wiper arm spoilers to really finish it off nicely. mat_the_cat and chaseracer
AlabamaShrimp
As I'm too lazy to look how much do mk1 sell for now? I paid £150 for mine in er 2001ish.
fordperv
That looks lovely I really should get a mk1 fiesta its an itch id like to scratch, im glad there aren't too many yellow fiestas around though on the basis we used to play yellow car punch and fiesta molest yer when we were driving around, a yellow fiesta would be a smack in the gentleman vegetables. Christine
Blimey, I rebuilt this brake 6 years ago .... it's done minimal mileage , just been parked in a unheated shed . Glad I took it to bits again . It's pissed fluid everywhere and gone rusty derusted New everyfinkshit pic Bugger ..Missing a rubber bung for the lining inspection hole , anyone got one ? The oval slot at 2 o'clock ... New flexi . Captain Furious
Nice work, a friend and I restored* one of these a few years ago - by restored I mean we replaced all the oily bits, swapped the engine, got it on the verge of MOT....then someone knocked it off the jack and caved the door in. Lost interest and sold it for a massive loss. It did get finished by the next owner though, I saw it at a show a couple of years ago and it looked amazing, the new owner was a miserable cunt though. Christine
Those wheels are awesome! They're 4 1/2 J" x 12" Ghia wheels . Called "Kent " wheels i believe ? £25 quid ebay purchase . I polished them . Do you think a 165 70 12 tyre will be too wide ? Or even 165 60 12 ? Not much choice in 145 12 or 155 12 these days..
Faker
165/60/12 mini tyres should fit... but it'll scream it's tits off

Not much choice in 145 12 or 155 12 these days..Don't know own if I'm doing this right but there seems to be a few on here https://www.mytyres.co.uk OK that was supposed to be a link to a search for 155/70 13 with 21 results but the link was giant. I'll have a look what's on mine as although flat they were wider than they should have been but worked OK.
smellypoo
I absolutely love those Ghia wheels, particularly when attached to a MK1 Fiesta Ghia, with the bumper overriders, fake wood veneer centre console and velour.... Yum! I'm sure they look excellent on you car too, especially with the spoiler, it's definitely a look in keeping with a time when these were common, up-speccing more basic models. My uncle had one which I would have had as a first car, if my older cousin didn't take it for a test drive and write it off. I was gutted.
bunglebus
I've had 5 MK1's, they are brilliant little cars. The Ghia wheels are great, I always fancied putting a set of 13" Cortina ones on as they have a good offset for FWD, lots more choice of tyres... Exiled_Tat_Gatherer
Excellent Fiesta revival ongoings...... After I killed my Cortina on Wroxham hump back bridge and the replacement BGT lunched its motor on the 4th day of ownership I ended up with a Mk1 950 in harvest gold (iirc). Thrashed that thing beyond anything reasonable and it kept on going. Loaned it to a local lass while I was working away for a while in exchange for services rendered....... got a text after a few months that it was parked up on the farm ...... which farm and where it went, I never ever found out. Cracking little cars...... good luck
Christine
Bah, the disc retaining screw on the offside is made of cheese and wouldn't budge ,so I had to drill it out and re tap it . No spare to be found so the wheel bolts are holding it on for the time being This side has had a remanufactured caliper at some point A wheel..don't know why a took a pic of that , Dog didn't piss on it anyway Stuboy ...be worried man ! The sides and bonnet /front panel need paint..I pulled off the rubbing strips and made a mess of it .. Keeper? I've kept it long enough already haven't I ? My daughter may want it ,she's 15..only 2 more years before she's old enough to drive I'd like an HB Viva ( or an HC Viva , if it was a coupe version ) or an Imp , Midget or Spitfire Rusty_Rocket, theshadow, alf892 and 1 other

danthecapriman
Great job on this!Good to see a bit of creativity in making replacement bits yourself too. It’s bloody infuriating sometimes what people ask for parts for old Fords. I nearly bought a bronze mk1 as my second car after I took the Capri off the road for its first resto. Some bastard beat me to it though so I went for a B reg mk2 Fiesta instead. Christine

Spottedlaurel
I was thinking about your need for 12" tyres today when I was cleaning-up my little Datsun. I got 155/80s for that, they were Nankangs and came in at under £200 for four a couple of years ago. They seem fine for a light, older car and they look suitably old-fashioned too. Christine
Mine are so old the code only has 3 digits and the spare is 2003 and rock hard Yes i was looking on ebay at Nankangs.
Spottedlaurel
I've had to use that car in some pretty monsoon-like conditions, on neither occasion did I die or have any 'moments', so I can only conclude their wet weather performance is OK. They're "Low Noise" too, although I think might be somewhat academic on a car of the '70s.
