garycox
**REPURPOSED COLLECTION THREAD - SKIP TO PAGE 3 FOR SALE POST** I haven't bought a car for a while... probably should fix that. There are probably better ways to do this though, than being up stupidly early after virtually no sleep, feeling a bit ill and having to do this journey:The car's not even that interesting - the effort to reward ratio is probably not worth it but at least it's probably slightly better than going to work today.EURGH robinmasters, Doctormop, RobT and 7 others
Split_Pin
A wee collection jaunt is definitely better than working! Safe journey! garycox
garycox
As is now tradition (well, I've done it three times), I've taken along the current (to the car) issue of Car to read on the journey I'm too tired to contemplate making the picture the right way up. loserone, dome, alcyonecorporation and 2 others

HillmanImp
Speaking of work, you wouldn't happen to work in Reigate would you? I was speaking to a Gary Cox a few weeks ago and notice that his skype status is greyed out today, or is that just a coincidence?

garycox
London achieved, food and coffee consumed. Only 5.5hrs to go (plus the return journey)... I was planning to check out my stats, but the August 1998 issue of Car doesn't have my car in the list of "every new car" as it'd already been replaced by its successor... garycox
It's slightly shorter than the horrible coach trip from Brighton to Middlesbrough to collect the BX from JohnK, but not by much... I would've got the train today but they wanted £112 Jim Bell

HillmanImp
Not me! I work in a boring office in Brighton... I'm glad I didn't ask him if he was the same Gary Cox that likes shit old cars then when he was informing me that I hadn't in fact turned my computer off and on again, I'd merely disconnected from my session and logged back in. I'd have looked like an idiot twice. garycox, Hertz and robinmasters

garycox
2.5hrs to go! Er, it's a 1.6 petrol and not very interesting. Seemingly rarer than I thought though, as on EBay, Gumtree and Auto Trader I could find only one other of the same body style for sale (and it was 3x the price of this one) Jim Bell

RobT
2.5hrs to go! Er, it's a 1.6 petrol and not very interesting. Seemingly rarer than I thought though, as on EBay, Gumtree and Auto Trader I could find only one other of the same body style for sale (and it was 3x the price of this one) Focus was new in 1998, so I initially thought you'd plumbed the depths and gone for a Mk5 Escort. But there's still a few of those for sale on Autotrader. Don't tell me you're going all that way for an Astra G estate...Mind you it's a day out I suppose!
garycox
I was specifically looking for something that was not a Mk5 Escort (I've had two and neither was good) or an estate because I'm not really intending to replace the Mondeo any time soon. So it's neither of those things. Only 1.5hrs to go! I think this trip may actually be worse than work. I hope this car gets me back to Brighton...
